Exactly, no point rushing support for the two people that own a 6800 series card.
Thats an amazing insight. Thank you for the laugh. Really puts it into perspective:laugh:

And you honestly believe that they won't repeat the same scenario? Seriously?!
I'm not saying they wont sell out, the point i was making,, maybe not very clearly is that. There will higher chance of getting custom AIB card than reference, that's all.

PhysXwas very much hardware from the start.

Yup I was running a 7970Ghz + GTX650SC for Physx back in the day.

Lets face it: AMD users won't miss out anything by playing without DXR ...

Remember, we are talking about CD Projekt here, which is known for games with poor performance on maxed out settings:
- Witcher 2 ran extremely poor with Ubersampling on. Top of the line GTX 590 barely reached 30+ FPS on 1080p: https://www.techspot.com/review/405-the-witcher-2-performance/page3.html
- Witcher 3 ran extremely poor with Hairworks on. It basically slashed the performance in half, and pushed the minimums below 30 FPS even on GTX 980. Additionally, it was unplayable on 4K: https://www.techspot.com/review/1006-the-witcher-3-benchmarks/page6.html

Anyone expecting this to run on RT ultra on 4K with current gen hardware is in for surprise: a console-like cinematic experience (30 FPS) ;)

Were you checking for PhysX support when buying games? How about TressFX? This RT crap is no different.

Actually I tried to play/stream Cryostasis a few weeks ago but couldnt because of PhysX that I cant do even today, not using Nvidia.

Also bare minimum is an RX470*

ALSO also, does this mean it wont have ray tracing on the console versions either?

Next gen patch for consoles will be released (early) next year. I expect launch PS5/XSX versions to match last gen visually. There were some that claimed that the XSX demo had RT on but they forget that the game uses dynamic weather system and screenshots aren't intended for 1:1 comparisons. From what I saw all reflections in the demo were from SSR.

excuses me but Don't all Rx 6000 series card support DX12 ultimate and DXR?
There is no reason to pull support for DXR other than being bought out by Nvidia
As in anything with RTX labeled on it is now an Nvidia supported game, No thanks I've had enough that with "Nvidia the way it's meant to be played".
DX12 and DXR are a joke at this point much like mGPU support for DX12

lol...although they use the same API, I would imagine how they work, one having its own hardware component the other adding it to shaders, is different hence why it needs to be coded into the game. These likely weren't ready in time for testing whereas NV's offerings have been out for 2 years.

WTF? Minimum is a RX 480 and high is RX 590; the RX 590 is practically the same card with just higher clocks..

Maybe the 590 can hit the magical 2077 mhz with a driver update now?

Its yet another confirmation you can take system specs with a truckload of salt. Gosh... wasn't that the case in 1995 as well? :D I bet its still like that in 2077...

I didn't knew I needed this until you pointed it out. The dream...

Yeah and there are numerous other great ideas of playing with 'light' that really needs to appear for me, before RT can truly impress. I mean right now its just an upgrade to whatever we already had. It doesn't enable anything new. No gameplay emerges from it. Its just another graphical setting like SSAO, god rays (hey!), etc.

I mean its not hard... where is my god damn Silent Hill with RT integrated right from the start? We got a handful of Resident Evil remakes... none of them figured out that horror and truly dynamic lighting might actually have some sort of effect? Where is Sony with a first party RT-focused single player miracle like Shadow of the Colossus? So many questions... the answer: we're too early in the adoption curve. Its pretty strange to see a brand new gen launching without such an eye-catcher, given the fact the hardware is there and brand new.

Its either lazy or it was rushed...

Basically, you don't want to have anything less than a 2080Ti.

For laptop users, you want no less than a 2060.

You enjoy that 2080ti, I'll just kick 120+ non-raytraced FPS with a 1080, no problem!

That is some hefty RT tax.

Lazy, I call it. Not investing in lazy.

It's a matter of investment and return, you invest time and resources expecting a return in monetary form and the final result depends on how much time, workforce you need to do things, momentum and deals. The Quake 2 RTX is an example of the latter two, it came in the first RTX launch and probably Nvidia was backing it, it was more of a selling gimmick. Even at the beggining of Physx there were more titles compatible with the addon card or secondary gpu than later because they were pushing it.

The problem comes in the second phase onwards. Is it really that easy to implement to justify the cost for these publishers? I suppose we are entering now that phase where we will see how it goes. I hope it gets traction, it's an awesome tech, but the final money return will dictate its survival.

Yup, as with all RTX games I've played, I'll probably enable RTX, play around with tweaking the settings for half an hour and then admit to myself that RTX runs like garbage and isn't even close to being worth the performance penalty before turning it off for the entire playthrough.

You'll have that choice to make, I'm not sure I'll play the whole game with RT on either, lots of unknowns there, but the choice will be available.

Sure, but this shouldn't affect the story, mechanics, choices, etc. (in summary great gameplay) which is what CD Projekt is most famous for. Definitely, Cyberpunk might look better with DXR on, but the game should be pretty long and after 20+ hours of gameplay, most of the people will stop paying attention to the effects ... Also, if CDPR doesn't intentionally cripple the non-RT version, the graphics won't differ that much.

Sure, like a lot of games, especially competitive games, removing 'fancy' graphical effects should not be to the detriment of the actual core gameplay, mechanics etc, it should not put the player at a disadvantage (in fact sometimes the opposite). I was just responding specifically to
AMD users won't miss out anything
which unfortunately is the case for now, but seemingly wasn't really the point you were trying to make.

Day 1 and foreseeably for a few weeks/months(?), if you want the prettiest game, you'll need to use an RTX card or play without DXR. Personally I don't see RTX or even DLSS as must have features, barely selling features really (having said that, Control was epic with DXR), I choose a card primarily on the base merits (rasterization, price, temps, acoustics etc etc) and the extras are nice to have. Fun to turn on these bleeding edge/experimental features though, I certainly enjoy that where it's an option.

Aren't some of the AIB's launching their cards in 2 days?
From what i've read, exclusive AIB cards willl be out on 25th, with the rest of AIBs in mid-December.

Microcenter got zero stock apparently, zilch.
