OFFICIAL Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (Discussion)

Why play Skyrim? You live there.

I hear looking on Facebook you can find some epic caves to get into.
Are you already off your rocker this morning, man? Some serious lulz there, but man, you're in rare form, lol.
skyrim = fun

real life snow = code miserable wet freezing and lets face it im not gonna find epic loot in any caves around here mostly just gonna find bears that will eat my face off.
Remember, you have to defeat the bears for the loot to appear! C'mon man, get in there with some armor and a battle axe and get that loot!:rockout:

Does anybody plan to play the Elder Scrolls Online?

Nope.

The only similarities between ESO and ES is the lore. From what I have seen it has the standard MMO engine.

Imagine WoW with ES lore instead of Warcraft lore. If you are into that, it might work out well for you. As for me, I wanted ES gameplay not WoW gameplay.

To each his own though, there is a plethora of people that enjoy current MMO model. I personally hope that it fails, and thus teaches the companies that we want innovation, not another reskinned and slightly tweaked MMO engine.

screw that. Im gonna sit on my ass in my warm house with a bowl of Maple brown sugar oatmeal and a cup of coffee while writing a review and wasting time responding to posts on TPU thats a way better idea. Besides my battle axe needs to be repaired and i sold my armor for hookers and skooma.

dont feel bad BrooksyX niether have I, im trying to get this review done before my power cuts out due to the 30 inches of snow we are expected to get .

haha I don't feel to bad. Just been busy lately, I moved from my parents house into my friends house this past weekend and I have been getting all settled in. A couple nights ago we spent all night wiring the house with cat 5e through the ceiling and then last night I went out to dinner with a girl ive been starting to see. So I am sure I will get plenty of time to play soon but a lot going on with the real life right now. :p

Here is how I see it though - new girl > skyrim > real life

You guys are cracking me up this morning!

In all seriousness, you could try geocaching when the weather lets up. Sure, there aren't epic battles, but you do find some cool loot sometimes and it's a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday.

As far as ESO goes, I signed up for the beta with an "Above Average" projected acceptance. Haven't heard back yet, but depending on how it plays I may play it for a while. Grouping up with friends and running around exploring the open world(the way only BethSoft knows how to make one) seems like a ton of fun, even it is more MMO than RPG.
As long as it's more first-person hack-and-slash than mashing number keys to cast spells/abilities, I think I'll be happy with it.:toast:

New girl > most things in life.

Whenever I played Skyrim I always got my feet cold, no matter how warmly I wrap them up in socks and slippers

In Solstheim though, the island where the Dragonborn EP is played, there's no snow. But there's warm ash and a volcano. And 'ash draugrs' and other creepy monsters :)

Skyrim Dragonborn - the view upon arriving on the island of Solstheim. Ravenrock city isn't visible here because it's just slightly to the left, I just wanted to get that awesome volcano...

yup Solestiems climate changed when Red mountain exploded and wiped out most of Morrowind

I don't know what's happening, now me too I'm getting thrown back to desktop from the game after 5 minutes of playing.

It started happening after the cultists found me on Solstheim.

I thought it was because I had updated to Nvidia driver dated 29/12 so I rolled back to the 2/12 one but still the problem remains.

Miraak is banishing you from Solstheim. You have to obtain the cloak of no detection in the first five minutes or the game will crash. Its an actual feature of the game.

Its true, I promise... :p

Went to a previous save game, long before cultists found me.

Appears that as soon as I try to go further up North in the map the game crashes, no matter which angle I try. I've deleted all my mods too, am using only Bethesda's HD addons, nothing else.

:ohwell:

A HA! So your getting it too! I could make no diagnosis. Are you using ENB? I tried using something called Hialgos GPU Boost but it has issues with the Suburb enb and the dude is looking into it. But you might be able to get it to work and it might help.

Ok starting this game for the first time.

Here are the mods I have installed so far: official hi rez, static mesh part 1 and part 2, pure waters, skyrim hd 2k textures, unoffical skyrim patch, and sky ui

should be good to go? appreciate the feedback

Seems like a universal thing then.
Maybe it's the save file size again?

I took a look through my save files and mine is up to 16.4mb at the moment.

I can still play the game but it is unpredictable when they will happen or if they will happen.

EDIT:-
Played Skyrim for approx 3 hours and not one crash.

Could be one of these three things.

Changed Game Data load order.
Dawnguard
Hearthfire
Dragonborn
Other mods

Hearthfire was somewhere in the middle while Dragonborn was right down the bottom in amongst the community mods and my own.

Removed any mods which I was not using in game
Craftable Dragon Plate Crown
MacKom Lorestyle hairset

Rolled back to AMD driver 12.11 beta 11 with CAP 2

yeah I keep getting crashes too, i tried to change the load order and it did not help though -_-

I read somewhere, I think it was on Steam forums (?) that to eliminate the crashing you have to start Dragonborn all over i.e. alight from the boat you took from Windhelm.

It's a PITA... but I'll try it and report back :ohwell:

I installed Hialgos Boost and it seemed to help but instead of just freezing it ended up CTDing...

Starting over doesn't help either. I loaded a save in Windhelm, took the boat, arrived... ran for some seconds to the left and started killing some ash monsters... and bang CTD :(

I'll do that.

Also, if I verify game cache I get "one file failed to validate and will be reacquired". Every time.

Well I just had another CTD so results may vary :p

Keeping googling for some sort of fix... nothing.

Hialgo didn't work for me. CTD almost immediately. I'll keep googling too..

I hope I'm not speaking too soon but I think I solved it. I had been running ugridstoload 9 and I changed it back to 5. So far I didn't have any CTD's (granted I played only a few minutes) but I had been having them within a minute or 2 before, making the game unplayable.

If you have modified ugrids, here's the procedure you have to follow to put it back at 5 (default). Follow this or you'll lose your saves!

1: Start the game with the current ugrids value..
2: Load the save game that you'd like to revert/change back.
3: Once the game is loaded, ALT+TAB or minimize the game.
4: Navigate to your Skyrim.ini file located typically in the documents/my games/skyrim/
5: Input the Ugrids value you'd like to use, DEFAULT is "5", otherwise if you want to go from 9 down to 7, put in 7.
6: Save the file and then maximize/tab back into skyrim that is already running.
7: hit the "~"/console key and type in "refreshini"
8: Save the game as a new save file.

uGrids is to resolve the amount of pop up and texture LOD change being visible right?

Yes, it's a skyrim.ini modification to make you see a lot clearer in the distance and you also see npc's and animals far away.

The default is 5, you can increase it in increments of 2 odd numbers ie 5,7,9,11 etc...

11 made the game choppy for me but 9 ran very fine... for long hours.

I don't know how, at least in my case, Dragonborn mucked this up. The game still ran smoothly on ugrids 9 but crashed within a minute or two! Now I put ugrids on default and it CTD's no more.

Tempted to give it a try.
Although I am use to the texture pop ups and LOD detail change it would be more immerse not to have it happening in plain sight.

You know I was wondering if it was a Ugrids problem. I personally use 7. I'll try 5 again to see if that helps.
