NVIDIA's yet-to-be-released GeForce RTX 3060 "Ampere" graphics card has already hit the second-hand graphics card market, as those with early access to RTX 3060 inventory have begun re-selling it. Belarusian tech marketplace Onliner listed these GIGABYTE RTX 3060 Eagle OC custom-design graphics cards for 2,800 BYN (USD $1,080) a piece, from a lot of three cards.

NVIDIA announced that the company plans to tackle the problem of crypto-currency miners soaking up inventory of GeForce "Ampere" graphics cards, beginning by designing the GeForce RTX 3060 to be bad at mining, putting out half the hash-rate it normally should, with the specs at its disposal. The company claims to be using an elaborate mechanism to enforce this hash-rate limiting, so miners can't work around by modifying the drivers. We're also hearing that the company could revise other RTX 30-series "Ampere" products with hashrate limiters, so they become unviable for crypto mining.

PC gamers can rejoin, now they can have brand new GPU at MSRP or cheaper, which is a steal atm.

Not now and not tomorrow, until this madness sat down, need time.

wow already...

They were listed for 1080 USD. RTX 3060 MSRP would be about 300 USD if there wouldn't be minning maddness.

That's probably the price Mr. miner paid the retailer, surely they are not going to sell at that price once 3060 officially launches. This just goes to show that dirty retailers and OEM already sold all 3060 stocks to miners, leaving nothing for gamers before Nvidia stepped in.

only when the cryptocurrencies will implode prices and availability will go back slowly to normality...

This just goes to show some see unicorns and roses where others see something a little different /$1000+.

The reality is that at that sorts of price, most gamers will not take the bait. Miners are willing to pay more because they are making money from the GPUs. Given the cards are gimped from mining, gamers who uses GPU to earn money passively will not be able to do so. So all the more they won't want to spend this much on a mid range card.

Anyway, Nvidia stepped in because of these juicy profits that their AIB are making and they are missing out on it. If they are selling "mining cards" using the same GPUs used for gaming, and able to sell it at double the MSRP that they are offering consumers , i.e. gamers, at USD 329, do you really think they will allocate equal GPUs to gamers? They are not a "gamers" centric company, they are a profit seeking organization.

Cheaper? They guy that got the card intend to resell the card for $1080 each. Well in any case it will be interesting how things will go moving forward. Some miner already talks about modded driver and custom BIOS to bypass nvidia limiter.

Here is a question, silicon is finite, having watched the entire Linus vid about how this does not solve anything and just makes things worse for consumers, what if Nvidia produced the miner cards on older tech, lets say the 12nm tech at global foundries, would that do anything to help?

They said the new mining card 3 of them are turing based. Only the fastest one are ampere based.

Yeah, for sure... :D RX 580 miner editions also helped reduce the GPU prices (nope).

uh...yeah? that's how capitalism work, company tries to sell you products and consumers consume them.
The only difference is Nvidia use the money to develop better products, while miners and scalpers use the money to buy more GPU, driving prices sky high.
I would rather my money go straight to Nvidia.

Hope you are being ironic or I must say you are too naive. That's just a communication from NV and cards will be as expensive as they have been so far.

Ok, I see now that you are a blue-green fanboy.

nice personal attack dude

The OP is all assumptions, nothing is shown to prove the purchaser is a miner, more likely just another scumbag scalper with mates in the business.

Nvidia only screwed over gamers who would "mine" with the "special" drivers. The mass "miners" literally pay millions of dollars directly to Nvidia and can easily get around this "issue". Literally Nvidia keeps screwing over consumers as if it was more important than the money they're making. Their tactics are so effective that people are willing slaves to Nvidia when even the "journalists" actually think Nvidia gives a damn about anyone other than the highest bidder.

LOL, AIBs have sold 3060 to miners in Russia and Pakistan (and probably to other countries as well) for 700$ last month and now they're reselling them for $1,080 already?! I really hope mining craze continues for another year or two, so that crash floods the market with 2nd hand GPUs wiping out most of AIBs and makes a huge hole in financial sheet of Ngreedia and AMD for a couple of years to come. I'm going to buy GPUs on 2nd hand market for the next 10 years, just to show middle finger to these greedy **** and I hope most DIY PC builders do the same or move to consoles. Enough is enough!

PS: Editor please stop spreading Ngreedia's PR propaganda about them trying to cripple hash-rate of GPUs in order to 'help gamers'. The truth is that Ngreedia's AIB partner sold a few hundred thousand Ampere dies/PCBs without coolers and software directly to one of the multi billion worth mining enterprises in Russia for A LOT of money (near double MSRP price per piece) and even helped their engineers to write custom mining optimized bioses/drivers. If I know for 2 instances there must be A LOT more out there. The truth is Ngreedia & it's AIBs are crippling home alone miners while happily sell to and assist big mining farms. Hypocrisy and greed everywhere you look.

Make no mistake guys, Nvidia isn’t “making a stand” against miners. The 3060 is supposedly better at mining than people are led to believe, but don’t quote me on it. Many believe their long term goal is to kill the second hand market (even if there are 3060’s in the short term) because miners disrupt their gaming revenue. Apparently this is to push customers to buy new, whether it’s a gaming gpu or mining gpu.
