Quite a big impact core voltage has on VRM temps. 15C down with your voltages. That also explains why GTX 260 VRMs run cooler. (but still high temps for me )

Yeah voltages does make a difference, I actually got about the same temps between my 260-192 @ stock 1.1250v and my 260-216 @ stock 1.06v using the same fan speed. I raised voltages via bios mod on my 192 a long time ago (see op, around july 08) and temps while in extra mode were around 3-5+C hotter at the same clocks and load situations. Part of why I'm waiting for a better than stock cooler...I want to run higher clocks year-round...without the need for 100% fan speed to keep temps where I want them.

Accelero should fix that problem (if we can manage to keep the VRMs in order)

Now you got the same temps as I in couple of the VRMs So it's stable in games with just 1.2V and OC on top of it?
Anyone know the order of those sensors in the board? I assume that the top and right one aren't used, as they are bigger of the bunch and GTX 260 doesn't have the lower left ones.

It's getting interesting, don't know if there is any point of me trying those little sinks on, but would the VRM part of the stock cooler even help maybe it's the heatpipe that does all the miracles?

Some real mod would be to take a heatpipe NB cooler, base off and then solder it to the stock cooler VRM part. Little fan on it and surely the VRMs would be cool

Well mine are less than 60C with my OC'ed GTX260. The D-Tek Unisink does a really awesome job cooling the VRM's.

Here's my results on stock cooling, 71% fan speed, stock 1.06v voltage, 65nm 260-216. That way I have a reference mark for "when" I decide to do something different with the cooling. I had one at idle, well sort of...about 2 minutes after folding, one of the more constant load 768pt ones..the newer 1680/420 do not constantly load my gpu. But none-the-less it's fairly close to idle temps as my card generally stays in 3d clocks...not a big deal though.

The second picture is after just over 5 minutes worth of furmark in 1024x768 window/stability test. Temps aren't horrible, a few degrees higher than 80%, but a couple cooler than 64%. I'm getting to a point where I want my current OC's at quieter levels w/o water. I'm not worried about this GPU at that temp, and generally it averages closer to 50-55c load on games and 50-60c on folding depending on wu.

Can't wait to see what an Accellero Xtreme GTX280 cooler does for me!

Nice temps, seems VRM temperature is connected to both the core voltage and the GPU temperature on stock cooler. Less voltage of course means lower core temp too, but the cooler also has more reserve to cool the VRM.

Accelero will make your card frozen I'd say 5xC on FurMark and 4xC gaming.

Is that 1.0630V really the stock voltage on the 65nm 260-216 card Why on earth would 34 more shaders require a bump to 1.1875V? My 2D clock voltages are 1.1125V, that's already more than GTX 260 on load. Think I'll start undervolting my card

Thanks for the compliments, I love this card. To answer the part I quoted, yes that is the stock voltage on that part...dunno why it wants less voltage for more cores on the same fab compared to my 192sp...I assumed the same as you. I'm pretty sure all voltage values are set at 1.06v, so even on 2d clocks it doesn't drop but 3C or so from extra clocks at idle.

I considered undervolting my 192sp because some 192's had 1.06v stock on extra, very rare I forgot what companies did it. All I ever did was go to 1.18 then back to 1.12, stepped up in september and all I did to this card's bios was change the fan profile. Though it'd be cool to see what clocks you can keep with lower voltage on that card! Keep us posted!

p.s.- impatiently waiting for the AC Xtreme to show up in the states!

Now he's done it! Me OnBoard. I cut the stock cooler in half Well in a third, the VRM part of. Weights about 24g, so a bit more than 7x2g of those enzotech copper mosfet sinks would.

Hope it was worth the 1year 10months of warranty kill...

Took pictures again and will post them along with results, once I install it, in the Accelero mini review.

edit: it still works =) temps looked promising on the 60s bechmark run, now for the 3min test.

Evga will work on Evga... If you flash the bios to have a EVGA instead of the MSI as the brand, then it will work.. But, Riva does the same thing.. Just have to go and mod Riva to do what Evga does.. It really not a big reason to flash.. The tool is a great thing... But, learn Riva, and you'll be set for any card you ever get! IMHO

Precision should work just fine, I've used it on all sorts of NV graphics cards from varying brands. It's made by the same guy that created Rivatuner. Precision is just a simpler utility that has what you need and no extra garbage.

The voltage utility, I doubt will work without a flash to an EVGA card but most shouldn't need it for decent overclocks.

Yes, I use it on my MSI GTX280. You may have to get the MOD file for it though. It is a ton easier to use then Riva and the Command line, which I have also used.

You know I posted it some where on this site. EIther in this thread or the 3dMark056 thread. But really there is not point in going thru all that hassle..when the EVGA tool does the exact same thing and even better as you can set 2d and 3d voltages. So I lower my volts to .98v for 2d vs 1.06v and go 1.2v for 3d mode vs. 1.18v. When I really push my card to the 783/1566 level I need 1.25v.
