ah yes well this systems is like nothing I have seen before and totally blow me away with it's performance and as much as I like ati the performance when oced from a 260gtx to a 4870 is not even close, at stock yes but not overclocked. Plus I love this EVGA X58 motherboard , but I'm gonna buy a bit more expensive one maybe a Classified , DFI UT, Bloodrage, or Revolution haven't decided. This evga board has some strange power issues ( almost like voltage gaps) between 1.375 and 1.425. I think it's a bios issue and EVGA know about it because when you turn on the anti droop the power goes to 1.411v a from 1.375. The problem is that at 1.4v my cpu will do 4.0ghz no problem but on air thats just to hot and with a digital power systems or a analog 16+2 system that should go way down. Evga has a 8+2 analog system)Anyways my 260gtx card matches both my old 285gtx and 280gtx step for step and thats something no 4870 can come close to for 174.00.

Tatty buy a DFI UT and a 920 I7 , jaw dropping is all I can say. Never seen anything like these chips, my max benching speed on my Qx9640 at 4.6ghz can't beat this cpu at the above 24/7 stable clock. My chip likes the 19 multiplier and thats fine because thats a decent FSB and my ram is at DDR2 1700 at 8 8 8 21 t1 1.65v. However the QPI is at it's max for stabilty and my chip hates the hell out of the 20x , but with a 21x it gonna burn through this at a unstable bench of 4.3ghz. Now all I have to do is tweak it up. This EVGA board is good but I need a better digital power phase, my DFI comes this week.

TBH, i7 dont interest me in the slightest, I dont know why, i recognise they are faster, however I get an almost 7000 CPU score in 2006 which aint far off an i7 at 4gig, i appreciate 2006 is but one app only out of the wide range of things i7 is so much better at but it just dont really excite me ATM.

Your not interested because you have never used one. I said the same thing. The best thing you can do is not use one and then you will think just like you do now and save a boat load of cash. Its like going from a 939 AMDx2 chip to Core 2 Duo. Remember I have had your chip and the clock I just posted I can use 24/7. To match that your chip would need 4.5ghz and thats not a stable clock. These chips when oced blow away the Core 2 Duos it's not even close. I'm hitting almost 8000 on my 24/7 stable clock with 59.00 ram and a I7920 (which is cheaper than your chip).

Cheaper chip to chip, more expensive when you throw the mobo package in also, I am still not excited though, I am sure I will be some day soon, and when I am then I will upgrade, you know with me, it's usually boredom that makes me upgrade, i just guess this chip hasent bored me yet!

I sold my i7 gear off a couple weeks ago & had thoughts of getting more but decided for what it's worth to step back up to DDR3 board & ram i'm just as better off to stick with high quality DDR2 gear & a good quad core cpu. Mainly because what Tatty said there it makes more sense.

But to keep on topic i'm entering the 260 club this week lol.

The I7/x58/ddr3 combo is definately awesome, but as a gamer I see no point when I don't have a game that bothers my system as it is. A quad at 3.6GHz, some DDR2 at 1066/CL5, running at 2.0v and very cool, a stable p45 board that has given me no headaches. Sure it will seriously pale in comparison to TRT's beast of an I7 rig in benches, but I'm not a bencher. Sure it's entertaining from time-to-time, but I built this rig for gaming. Beyond that I see no reason to go to i7, sure it's new tech, but i didn't get into Core2 till early 2007...stuff that was out what 1-1.5 years? I'll probably do the same here, wait till all the kinks are out, better solutions, support. And really there's a lot of good there already, but bang for the buck, at least on a gamer's side of things...the i7 is not if you already have a competent C2D or C2Q rig that is already paid for. Which any rig with a 3-3.6ghz dual or quad, 2-4gb of ram and a decent vid card should be very competent in modern games.

Agreed, me too. :toast: Bang for the buck > Record benchmark score, for me.

Sometime in a couple months or so I may go from this GTX 260 to something faster(debatable), but it's not because I have money to burn(sort of), it will be from someone else getting my card so I'd probably get a 285, or a newer 55nm 260 depending on the prices(just so I get an upgrade, even if it's small). The 200 series cards sure are speedy.

Very true. I'm going with a black edition 260 in a couple days then might get another after I get a new board & cpu. It'll be all I need & more prolly.

see I have had this card up too 736 core and 1243mem and 1592 shaders, 700mhz really isn't that "awesome" Guess it was enough to reach that 4th place spot though and get a metal also.

Do you have any before and after for proof of any performance increase? WHQL's are plenty stable for me and have been so I'm kind of skeptical about modded drivers anymore after some crappy releases on the ATI side of things a few years go.

Anything from 575 or 600 OC'd to 700 is a nice increase. I might end up running 640-680 24/7, but right now I'm content w/ my GPU stock. I've got my wolfdale @ an ok 3.6Ghz. :rockout:

i dont really have any proof that these specific modded drivers are better than whql but i use them and notice it, they are more stable sometimes look better and are generaly faster sometimes not by much tho
tweakforce drivers are well known on the internet and widely considerd to be some of the best, back in the day everyone used to use omega but they dissapeared and tweakforce became the king

all i can say is try em you dont like em uninstall them but there is a forum so you tell if you see any bugs ect or if you need help

i dont really have any proof that these specific modded drivers are better than whql but i use them and notice it, they are more stable sometimes look better and are generaly faster sometimes not by much tho
tweakforce drivers are well known on the internet and widely considerd to be some of the best, back in the day everyone used to use omega but they dissapeared and tweakforce became the king

all i can say is try em you dont like em uninstall them but there is a forum so you tell if you see any bugs ect or if you need help

Omega drivers always improved IQ at a slight cost of performance, Tweakforce concentrate on performance enhancements, some would say at the cost of some minor IQ.....IDK TBH but I always found Tweakforce drivers to be good.

Yeah, Tweakforce drivers are kind of hit and miss for the most part...Some are good, some are bad. But, generally they're pretty good.
