GTX 980/970 Club

got my 980's working in 4k!

UPDATE FIX FOUND:

Erin W, (EVGA support.)
customer service rep I believe.

This guy is a God send.
I do not know him and this is not a joke.
I have been dealing with Nvidia level 2 and Samsung level 2 and 3 support for well over a month now,
because my 4k Samsung was not working in 4k. It would blackscreen on me when I went into any 4k res.
I have spent hours and hours and hours dealing with this.
I have pulled my hair out and bled inside this computer over this..
After going through owning my gtx 680s and getting no solution then upgrading to the 9 series and still getting no help
At the end of my rope. When I had finally lost all hope and given up.

Swear to God I was feeling defeated like this, trapped with zero hope and no help:
Anyway,
I got an email from EVGA so I decided to call them up.
We start running through the basics, try one card at a time etc.
Then Erin W tells me that maybe I need to enable UHD colors..
UHD colors? huh? o_O?!
NEVER,
not even ONCE,
from dealing with all these people who call themselves "professionals" in tech support, did ONE single person even hint at such a thing.
My problem is solved and EVGA has a lifelong buyer now. My mobos, my gpus, hell, if I need a blood transfusion, I'm getting it from EVGA!
You guys Freaking rock!
Now I feel more like this:

@D007 I'm glad you got your 4K TV working. I was beginning to think it just wasn't going to work. Yeah, I've never heard of UHD Colors either. Well, you now know how to help the next guy that's having the issue you had and spare him the frustration you went through.

D007, can you tell me if your 4k TV will play games at 1440p, and how it looks at that res and whether the TV or the GPU is doing the scaling?

Reason I ask is I may upgrade to a 4k display, but I don't know if I'll have the graphics power to run all games at 4k.

:rockout:returning my GTX 970 as I already I stalled my new GTX 980.

Been running 1 GTX 980 on a UD590 from Samsung, runs like a champ, but 4k is still a bit much for High/Ultra setting at 4k. Thinking about getting another....when I the coin. Using the Zotac GTX 980 reference card.

I called Samsung support and posted on every forum, how to fix it.
Hopefully at least it may help someone, some day.
I decided to mess with samsung support and ask the tech who I got on the phone this time "how do I fix this issue"
Blackscreen when I set to any 4k res on pc..

All I got was a BS run around and no answer. So I told them their support is pathetic and how to fix it, so they could actually help someone for once..
Ugh.. what a pain that was but thank you. :)

Anyone got the Zotac GTX 970 like this It's tiny!

I was misled by the size of the cooler. On some the cooler is longer than the card.

I think it's either that one or the EVGA one W1zz reviwed for me. Would like to see a review of the Zotac one.

Ok sold my 7870 and GTX460. Time to order my 970. Zotac one in stock this week but no reviews; EVGA card not in stock until middle of next month. Decisions decisions!

Edit - Went for EVGA. And now I play the waiting game... I won't be playing much else 'til the card arrives. Not with my spare HD3850 anyway :D

WCCFTech are always horribly horribly wrong. I only trust leaks from VideoCardz, and even then I take them with a canyon of salt. Anything WCCF say that isn't factually backed up by a press release is pretty worthless.

They're the guys that jumped on the supposed release of an AMD counter to the Maxwell on the 25th, and missed the part where it was a launch day for the 285 in India.

I was going to get the EVGA GTX 970 that W1zard reviewed but I've changed my mind. I read some other reviews and one site showed the cooler has 3 heat pipes but only two touch the GPU. I'm no engineer and I don't know if all the heat pipes should touch the GPU but it just doesn't look right to me. Another thing is there are complaints by customers about coil whine and that EVGA built this card using cheap components. I decided to go with either the Asus Strix or the MSI Gaming card instead. I'm usually a big fan of EVGA with ACX coolers but just checking if you've seen the things I'm saying about this card.

Edit: Here is where I was reading about the cooler issue and W1zard did say the card was too noisy.

Jeez it's a minefield innit!? No I've not seen but just found the thread on EVGA forum so will give it a read

I agree wccftech and videocardz are not to be trusted completely, but the AMD red + blue pill PR campaign must have been for some product [285x?].

I think AMD pulled out last minute due to the impressive rollout of the 970/980 and threw in there "oh btw the 285 launches in India." Since when has AMD or NVidia announced specific market availability with that much PR hype, unless its to try to dissuade potential Maxwell sales.

They didn't pull out, they released a FirePro and the 285 officially. If anybody bothered reading their twitter feed, none of the stupid tech sites would have reported on such a pointless rumour mill.

https://twitter.com/AMDIndia

But they all reported on it, because they all like clickbait to bring in the traffic. Surprisingly, TPU didn't, because they rarely report on rumours unless they have evidence of anything.

EDIT: It's literally plastered all over their twitter about the FirePro for a few days before the 25th

Ok 4k update on Start Citizen and regarding the performance of the 980 gtx's.
This is amazing..
I cannot believe what I am seeing.
I have absolutely smooth frame rates in 4k on free flight, Broken moon.
Max settings.
Using ONE gtx 980.
sli isn't even working yet in SC.
Once it does, wow.
It's likely playable now even in MP but i don't like playing unfinished games.

Metro 2033 is sweet candy to my eyes in 4k and runs well in sli.
This is awesome.

Even playing Arma 3 in 4k, sli.

I'm not particularly happy with Star Citizen as it stands, rather disappointing progress so far, dislike the way ships fly, and dislike the addition of fixed weapons when aligning evading ships is so difficult because the ships handle so badly themselves. Filled the gap with Starpoint Gemini II and waiting on Elite to finish up. I won't be touching Star Citizen until Squadron 42 releases, and even then, if they haven't fixed the sluggishness of the ships, I will consider it money wasted.

I agree. Not happy at all really.
They keep screaming "High fidelity graphics!!!!" But have you seen the inside of the revised connie?
It looks like absolute shit with low res textures.

Not to mention the ships handle like garbage.
It's alpha, hoping for the best still.

But as for a performance benchmark, it's pretty much the most demanding game out there atm imo.

Oh yeah, crazy demanding, swaying my head side to side in the garage shows the blur  Can't say I've seen the inside of the connie, lost track of the game when the avenger was first announced. I keep it patched up, and that's about it so far.

The main issue for me based on what's being said on the evga forums is the coil noise. Maybe that's why the fans are so loud. Heatpipe thing doesn't really bother me. If the rest of the card is bad though - I'm out

A lot of people said after a couple days it just stopped making that noise.
Mine does not make that noise but it did on the first day a few times.

I get coil whine interference (not actual coil whine coming out my physical PC) when I watch Twitch streams through my headset. It's very faint, but because I pay attention to my audio quality, I kinda notice it. I wouldn't say EVGA are the only ones with issues. It's a lottery. My first reference 780 had it, but the two I bought afterwards had no issues.

How are you finding the MSI card? According to Ebuyer they are due some in this week. I may ring up and switch, as this 3850 is killing me on Elite Dangerous. Beta 2 out tomorrow as well!

Don't think I've bought anything MSI since I had a super socket 7 aladdin 5 motherboard off them.
