Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Speculation, Assumptions?

The cynic in me says they're doing this to make a Playstation account mandatory on PC.

Looks quite a bit better to me.

Will confess to not watching the whole thing, but I think the grass and leaves are better on the original version, especially noticeable around 6:50 where can see the grass even moves with the wind on the original. In other areas though like the paving and water the remastered is better.

The issue as explained is they decided to change the art direction a bit although DF thinks it was a positive change, I think the art direction on leaves and grass is a negative change.

Remastering/remaking games that are barely a generation old is a sign of a dying industry.

Development costs have ballooned so much that "remastering" recent games will become commonplace, it's just cheaper. With the recent failures resulting in hundreds of millions down the drain like Concord and Skull and Bones studios will become far more risk averse, so get ready to pay for the same "remastered" games over and over for the foreseeable future. Not the time for new high budget games.
Good!

Games that need hundreds of millions werent ever going to work anyway. See Star Citizen. There is just not enough competence to drive such a large project successfully. Big cash means too many stakeholders; the only possible outcome is failure or a half baked product. To run that kind of ship you need visionaries doing a life's work and a lot of stars to align.

Yeah I didn't care for that change either making it look more vibrant as well, but indoor lighting, water and character interactions got a massive upgrade which were 3 of my biggest issues with the original.

This is also the PS5 version guessing the pc varient will be slightly better nixxes usually supports the pc decently.

A bigger annoyance to me is if the system requirements are increased.

Are they supposed to be decreased when the game has been updated to look similar to Forbidden West ?

Yes, a Pentium 3 and a Geforce 4 MX should be enough.

(what I mean is there is no word on this or what settings will be avaliable, it's not like the System Shock remaster, it's a very recent game being updated to a somewhat more recent game ALSO the original version will be as scrubbed from the internet as much Sony can manage, meaning a good game you can play on what today is a potato gaming PC will require something more modern BUT THE GAME WILL NOT BE BETTER, because it's still the same game, ultimately my point is this remaster is meaningless)

Anyone who has already purchased the original can still play it the remaster is a distinct version nobody is forced to buy the upgraded version. The OG has been on PC for 4 years now and anyone who wanted it could have purchased many times on very large discounts down to around 10 bucks at times.

The Playstation 4 version will also still be playable to any who've already purchased it and has been around for 7 1/2 years now.

Anyone who doesn't want this shouldn't buy it for everyone else who already owns it 10 bucks isn't a major ask.

I've never heard a Taylor Swift song despite having an interest in music, but I still can. I've never played Assassins Creed, but it would annoy me if I one day wanted to try an old game and OH NO I CAN'T because it's all remastered shit now and the old versions don't exist anymore and my computer is powerful enough for the OG games but they can barely run the Re-assassed versions so those people just have to suit themselves right? For not buying at release. And hey Warcraft 3 Reforged, that went well didn't it? I have a bunch of games wishlisted on Steam that has been there for years at this point, games that I sort of want to play but "some day". I'd be really annoyed if those games were suddenly removed and replaced with a more expensive and graphically demanding but otherwise identical version of it.

Seriously, it would annoy me less if every single person who owned HZD was forcefully upgraded to this, that would just be icing on top of the shitberg that is civilization, but this I really, really hate. Imagine if the only way to play Deus Ex was to play like a shitty modded version.

So to bring it back to Star Wars. Have you seen the OG trilogy, the ones that aren't the special edition? They're avaliable online, if not. I guess that is what these remasters reminds me off, especially ones that tries to purge the originals: It's not how reality is supposed to work. You have a thing, you have seen a thing. But then they come along and says NO, THAT IS NOT THE THING THIS IS THE THING NOW, but it's not the same thing, is it? It's a different thing. And the original thing is gone. As much as I'm not a fan of Skyrim I can still buy it, despite the Cool Edition or whatever existing.

I get that, but at some point you either got to shit or get off the pot. Nothing last forever or is available forever and gaming is no different although pc has been much better at preservation than consoles etc.

I agree the OG should be available for sale forever but the publisher has decided that isn't going to be the case you can either support that or not it's your choice.

There are a lot of games more deserving of a remaster/remake than this but here we are and I suspect this will only get worse as times goes on with how much games are costing to develop these days.

The red dead redemption 1 PC version/remaster is a much bigger slap in the face of pc gamers and I bet it will still sell a ton unfortunately.

Remaster, remake, what a miss of new ideas !

For 10 dollars sure , already have Ultimate .

I strongly disagree. It's computers. It's files on a computer, not a painting made with lead-based paint. It's infinitely replicable. There's no difference between a downloaded version of Manic Mansion and the original floppies (maybe with the exception of some DRM stuff). There are some truly lost games, Win95 games specifically, the one example I know of being Marble Drop, and for those I sort of get it. They were made with very specific hardware and software combinations in mind and don't really work in modern times ... except for this browser version. HZD is a 2020 title.

I consider this a new release, and the minimum specs is pretty similar to RDR2. Or is it bad that PC gamers had to wait so long?

Gods yes. Jedi Outcast/Academy when?

That's because there is a large number of so-called gamers who love fellating Rockstar, despite how middling its games actually are.

Star Citizen works perfectly fine. Much like cryptocurrency or "AI" its aim was never to deliver anything of value, but to convince many fools to part with their money so that a small minority could get rich. It's a brilliant microcosm of the worst (or, if you're Chris Roberts, the best) of humanity and capitalism.

Found in Reddit lastly posted link to X :... 150gb (x3 sized)

That's bigger than GTAV! Have they heard of compression?!? Not interested in that.. I'll be sticking with the current version.

I for one hope the statement upthread about the original going on sale at GOG for Halloween is true.

NTFS compression, or is it better compact.exe (compactgui from git uses it), if game is badly compressed can give good result, my SteamDeck SSD partition after used compactgui i gained 33% space.

NFO:
  • Reduce the size of games (e.g. ARK-Survival Evolved: 169 GB > 91.2 GB)
  • Reduce the size of programs (e.g. Adobe Photoshop: 1.71 GB > 886 MB)

I have the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete addition

So should i get this for free LMFAO ?.
