I moved from my 905p 480GB to a 1TB SN850X because IMO outside of the specific use cases Optane seemed to have the upper hand (outside of rated endurance), standard M.2 form factor drives seemed to catch up and surpass on. Those include game and software loading times (including data streaming) the most. The huge benefit was of course transferring into a fully motherboard mountable storage array. No more additional cables and hardware all around. I would have loved to see a version of the 905p with as much capacity on an M.2 format but understand the physical challenges with 3D xpoint chips.

I have used an adapter card for the 905p (well, still do) and had an issue only once where the first one died about a year in. grabbed another adapter card for about 15 dollars and it kept working since.
