I'd say, that depends...

If you spend 2x on your GPU, and it lasts 2x as long, then it's the same deal as spending half and replacing it halfway through, isn't it? This is where performance-per-dollar figures come into play.

Another thing is keeping your needs in check. If you're ok with 40 FPS at 1080p, then you'll be happy with a 4060 Ti for years to come. However, if you want 120 FPS at 4K, then chances are, you're gonna be looking at replacing your 4090 as soon as Blackwell is out because it's just not good enough.

I think people get a bit too hung up over pricing just buy the best gpu you can afford and everything else will work itself out.

I've pretty much lived in the high end over the last 16 years and some cards were great for 4+ years other were struggling after 2 you never know and it really doesn't matter if it's entry level or 1600 usd just get the best card in your price range and live with it it's not like you could have purchased better in a way that would give you a meaningful difference long term.

I doubt any of the gpus will age all that different in the OP price range they'll all struggle in a couple years unless you turn down settings thankfully his requirements are 1080p/60 which give him the best chances of his hardware aging well.

And if he's OK with DLSS/FSR at that resolution maybe it will last 4-5 years.....

I agree, except in rare instances when spending 10-20% more would give you a 50% better GPU, like in OP's 400 EUR 6750 XT example. I'm sure saving up for another month or two, and buying a 7700 or 7800 XT would be money much better spent. Here, the 6750 XT is like sticking with a 6500 XT for 200 because the 7600 for 300 is too far away in price (50% higher price, at least double the performance).

This is where higher mid-range has been historically great so far. You get multiples of the performance of low-end with a much smaller extra investment, whereas if you moved higher in price, you wouldn't get proportionately more performance (diminishing returns).

Of course it depends, that's the entire point of this now several page long torture test lol. But +40% raster and 16GB at 500,- vs a 4060ti 8GB at 400? Hmmmmmm

Precisely.. the.. point... :)

It's not perspective when I have the actual data being I benchmark (not a gamer), this data across 50+ 3D Benchmarks.

So you're saying saving 50 bucks was smarter than waiting the week ( thread past this time period) and having the extra 50$ to cover a slightly more expensive, but 15% to 20% faster card, from the box without OC?

Your perspective is shit.
I've benched
Rx 6400
6500 XT (Mgpu also)
6600 XT
6650 XT
6700 XT (Mgpu)
6800 XT

NV
RTX
3050
3060
3060 ti
4060 ti
4070 S

Probably some in between. I'd have to look.
At 50 benchmarks each, that's a lot of data to work with.

The 6800 is a little slower than the 4070 S, slightly faster than a 4060 ti.
NO, I've been saying the whole time, save $100,- more instead and get a 7800XT. Or a 4070. See I don't care if people buy Nvidia or AMD. I care about buying well rounded GPUs that last, especially if the perf/$ ratio is much better. You won't see me recommending a past-gen card at a premium ever.

Ok, I get it. Makes sense.
A lot of those cards when new where big money in comparison to the sales today. A 6700 XT was 400$+ at one point, maybe a year ago or so. But then we'd been comparing to 3000 series NV.

Gaming ain't easy. We can all have an opinion on pricing to performance, but the pricing is always changing. In that aspect, I can say it's safe to say that 400$ I spent on a 6700 XT is not the same value and performance of spending 400$ today.

the problem is the OP doesn't seem to want to I mentioned pretty much the same thing and although I was probably harsher on the 4060ti than most I wouldn't bet 400 or more usd on it having any sort of legs at the same time if that is what the OP chose I hope I'm wrong about it.

That being said the OP already got pretty much every pro and negative view of the card it's up to him at this point to decide what to invest in and only he will have to live with that decision if it runs out of steam prior to him being able to upgrade again.

Yes the 500 ish usd cards from both gpu makers are substantially better than the 400 usd option and worth every penny over them but if the OP has decided 100 usd more is too much that's pretty much irrelevant.

Exactly. I myself bought a 6750 XT for a bit over £400 two years ago which was normal. Now, with the 7700 XT out and costing not much more than that, £400 (or €) is a terrible price for a 6750 XT.

Yeah the pros and negatives were already done on page 4 or 5 for me too, but some individuals insisted to go the extra mile and pull me apart about why on earth I could not get in line and recommend a 4060ti too... at 400 bucks. Heck I even said its time to get the topic locked lol. I was done.

To those who persisted (and fail to read, don't get me started on pointing that out, we'll arrive on page 10 np) ... Sorry but I don't do bad advice. I provide only realism. We can sugar coat a 4060ti for the good feelz but who benefits? Its just not my style. I've seen too many people living their illusion and then get the reality check at the least favorable time. Ofc now its just a GPU. But man. Its just a GPU. Surely we're allowed to disagree on it? :D Page 7. Apparently it was hard to swallow for some. Guess I didn't warn OP for nothing :D
