Missing memory ( ram )

Do you have the same issue if you run the memory at a lower frequency?

Yes , red_stapler . Auto and XMP , 1333 and 1600 , same problem . I have 4 sticks , 2 Gb each , CPUID report shows 8 GB and then DMI only 2 x 2048 mb . The thing is that i've tested both channels , separately , and they work . Pci-Ex slot 2 is not working either . I'm not sure if it's the mobo or the cpu .

Type MSCONFIG in the search bar then go to boot then advanced option and check to see if windows decided to limit you on what to boot with.

You do know that in your screenie above, it appears you have one stick in Channel A and the other in Channel B?

Sasqui , that's what disturbes me . I have 2 GB sticks on each slot . All 4 slots are populated . It was like that since i've built this rig , 3 years ago or so . Never had a problem . brandonwh64 , i did that before i've started the thread .

Wow... if you only put memory into DIMM-0A and DIMM-0B, does it show the 4GB as expected? Might narrow it down further to try that, if you haven't already.

Yes Sasqui , i've tried any combination . Every slot works alone or in dual channel mode . It shows 2048 MB with a single stick and 4096 with two sticks . In any channel . But i can't go above that . Three sticks - 4096 , four sticks - 4096 . Tested every stick on every slot . They are in perfect order . Somehow , the motherboard is ignoring one channel when more than 2 sticks are installed . In fact it doesn't ignore one channel , ignores everything above 4096 mb . Regardless the memory configuration . I can install 2 sticks in the first 2 slots and i get 4096 . Then two sticks in slot 2 and 4 , 4096 , 1-3 , 4096 . I stick on each slot appears as 2048 . But that's all . It feels like the motherboard is bricked or maybe the MCH is faulty although i ran some tests on it and everything passed .

Read your manual at what speed the board can support when all slots are populated. Clean your cpu socket and clean the ram sockets. Clean the ram modules pins with isopropyl alcohol (70-90%) reseat the cpu. If it fails replace the motherboard with a z78 chipset. Ive read that vengeance ram is only 50% compatible with Asus boards.

I have a TUF Sabertooth FX990 R2.0 with GSkill Ripjaws Z16Gb ram operating at 2133 MHz (2 slots).

Hi eidairaman1 , i already did those last night . Even checked the pins with a magnifying glass and a lantern . Nothing wrong there . As for memory config , i was using those since the beginning . It was always 8192 MB . There was no problem for 3 years and now ... everything is FUBAR . As for compatibility , i;ve asked the Ramguy from Corsair and he recommended those for Sabertooth P67 , due to the low voltage ( 1.5 V ) . Like i said , i've never had other memory sticks installed . This was the rig from the start , all i've changed was video cards . Now , i don't know if this R9 i've got did something or not , but the problem appeared right after i've replaced my HD5870 with the R9 . The first issue , UEFI mode won't POST with the R9 . Talked to XFX , they didn't care , like they didn't care about the HD5870 which was still under warranty .

Replace the board and ram then

Ram is fine . I cannot afford to buy a new board . I live in a poor country . This motherboard cost me a lot and the only reason i bought it was because i took the bait and went for TUF . I should have go for Intel's P67 or Z77 mobos . They pretend that the board has 5 years International Warranty and the Asus guy told me to update the bios . I am already using the latest bios , i did that from the start because the mobo didn't supported i5-3570K out of the box . No newer bios available .

If youre not overclocking at all yes the intel boards are fine but they run higher in price than others.

Have you tried to pull out the CMOS battery, wait an hour, put it back in and before even booting to Windows go right in the BIOS? If you still only have 4GB then this is hardware related or the motherboard BIOS is bad.

I am not overclocking , there is no point in oc for me . The stock speed of the i5-3570K is more than enough for my needs . I did a simple oc once just to see how high can i go on air . But that was all . Well , Sabertooths are not cheap either .

That's the only thing i didn't try , m&m's . That's because in order to remove the battery , i have to remove the TUF Armor first and from what i've read on Asus' website , this can lead to a warranty void . I want to avoid this for the moment , waiting for Asus' reply then i'll see what i do . I might get a two-tons hammer and fix it for good coz i've had enough of this .

" 4 . Warranty invalid if disassembly by end-user or non-ASUS-authorized repair centers."

TUF motherboards come with a warranty manual, find the manual somewhere in your boxes and take a look.;)

m&m's , I have that Certificate of Reliability , i have all of those , i have registered the motherboard upon purchase , on Asus' website , on my account . I've opened a ticket on their support website and someone replied asking for the exact model of the memory i use . After this , he replied again telling me to update to the latest bios . I've told him that i already have the latest bios and he didn't reply yet . I'm waiting to see what's gonna happen . I've also emailed a certified Asus repair center just now , but it's 12:20 in the night , so i assume that i'll get a response in the morning .

What I meant was: "Take a look at the gray manual that says: "TUF Series Motherboard Five-Year Warranty Notice" to find if you can or cannot remove the TUF Armor without voiding the warranty." If you find that you actually can remove the TUF Armor, it means that you can pull out the CMOS battery.

I know that but i'm not gonna get lured into some sort of psychological maze of circular logic , m&m's . I know how hard they try to deny warranty , so i take my precautions . This is from Asus' support website for Sabertooth Z77 , the P67 isn't there :

Warning :
  1. Warranty period may differ regionally, please check with your purchase point.
  2. Warranty invalid if damage/dysfunction caused by improper handling/usage, destruction;
  3. Warranty invalid if serial label is removed, broken;
  4. Warranty invalid if disassembly by end-user or non-ASUS-authorized repair centers.
  5. Australia statement notice

I've seen this, but this is too vague, we can't conclude anything from that. That's why you should read your warranty manual that probably has more informations then these sentences that can mean nothing and everything.
Is this disassembly to remove a plastic? I've removed plastics on GPUs before and never had a problem with warranties as long as their stickers were still there, but who knows.

That's the psychological maze i want to avoid , m&m's . They can say that i wasn't certified to remove the cover as an end-user and deny the warranty . Yes , it's all semantics and i don't argue semantics . If semantics is involved , then there's no way out of this , maybe the court and i don't intend to sue them . I'm gonna ask the Asus guy about this and if he says it's ok , i'm gonna do it . I want to have a proof , that someone in their company told me to do it so i won't be eligible for a penalty .

Update : Asus' tech guy told me that in the case that i already have the latest bios i should contact the reseller in order to get my money back or the board replaced . The thing is that i cannot contact the reseller , the reseller doesn't exist anymore . Two-tons hammer , that is .

They need to step up to the plate on this one, assuming you told ASUS that and are waiting again for a reply? Curious how it goes...

Wow they are really trying to slide on an RMA so quickly... Yeah 5yr warranty...

Test completed successfully with Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool 64 bit version . Everything passed . MCH , etc . I assume it's a bios bug or the motherboard is damaged although i don't have enough reasons to believe this . I've tested all ram sticks 30 mins ago , again . Everything works fine , it seems that the mobo is bricked on the 4 GB limit . I don't know how it happened , all started to go wrong since i bought this R9-280 . Machine won't POST in UEFI mode with this GPU . GeForce 7900GTX ( 2005 ) , works in UEFI mode . Also , tested HD5870 , HD6790 , GTX560Ti . They all work but the R9 won't . I've contacted Asus and some tech guy replied and asked for more infos , like the exact memory model , to work on my case .

Not all cards can use UEFI, normally with XFX they advertise it on the box. YOu could try contacting them and see but chances are there will not be a bios for it.

Other than that UEFI is pointless.

Not read all the thread but did you just try 2 sticks in other memory slots just to make sure you have no dead slots,

INSTG8R , they already did . ASUS does not stand behind their products . That 5 years International Warranty for TUF series mobo is a lie . I've told him . " i wonder what if i moved to another country and took this pc with me ? Would you have me on a plane back home to contact the reseller ?" . I've had it with ASUS . I was able to buy a brand new P8B WS for 50 E , to replace this shitty board , but that's the last ASUS product for me . Btw , i've tested the memory on a friend's mobo , a Intel X38 chipset ( lol ) and they work . No problem , all four slots detected , 8 GB present .
