Yes, same shit:
Which brings me to the current situation:
Why installing this same shit on the new RX 7900 series (guess it at least won't have issues due to a vapor chamber drying) instead of bringing the new Tri Frozr as used on the RTX 4000 cards?

yes I have, 72% fans will still creep above 105C, and higher fans than that will be a very unpleasant audio experience

Try the trick with 4x 1mm or 0,5mm washers on the gpu mount

Easy trick and it works

Yea theese 4 screws. And put them in before screwing them in. They gave me a good 10c hotspot and about 7c core

if i were to try this on my 6800 xt to get a few extra celsius better, where exactly do i put the washers? just on the 4 main gpu core screws and nothing else?

Just be carefull when installing. dont screw to tight but dont stop to early either

What paste did you order?
After consulting what had been said here, and doing research elsewhere on the internet + considering stock availability, I purchased MX6, due to its higher viscosity over MX4, and it's redesigned formula over MX-5 which was discontinued due to separation issues, as well as its claimed superiority over pastes like NT-H2 etc.

I swear i did something like this on the 5700XT, no idea where I got them from though. I might have to see where I can source some. I'd go with 0.5mm though, to reduce as much risk as possible.

Glad you did order that, you can be the guinea pig! Re-pasted my CPU last night with Deepcool free stuff that came with my AK620. Got MX2 and MX4. Hope after a re-paste and some TLC your card will start behaving itself.

And now they give the 7900 series the Gaming Trio Classic treatment, with the same goddamn cooler. How much would've it cost'em to adapt the 4000 series cooler to the Radeons?
Its obvious msi's head is up greens ass

The direct heatpipe contact. The gaps between them, the uneven surface, etc. There's a very good reason why all off the high-end CPU coolers (and GPU for that matter) use plate design instead (with heatpipes integrated).
You mean not direct touch heatpipes?

Like my Scythe Ashura has a base plate,

Iirc xigmatek were the ogs of direct touch and I was like thats not going to work out well, now do you ever hear about them anymore?

I still don't understand why my 6800 XT has 3 8 pin power areas. nonsense. it gets the same boosts clocks as all the other 2 8 pin cards. seems just like a bad design imo.

Am I to understand that one should use the spreading/"buttered toast" method for a GPU rather than relying on the cooler to spread the paste ala the pea method?

Get a credit or business card, put a half grain of rice up to half a pea and spread it, that is what I do with all cpus and gpu dies. Small die area you use less, IHS you use more.

If you want a top tier paste without it costing an arm and a leg, try the Noctua NH-T2. Hands down the best paste ive tried so far , that includes kingpins extreme etc. it dosent dry out and moist all the time and it dosent fade after 6-12 months of use. Just try it and thank me later :)

I just reconverted my 2060S back from Bitspower block to FE cooler after being waterblocked for almost exactly a year. NT-H2 definitely pumps out, to nobody's surprise since it is much runnier than NT-H1. 448mm for TU106 vs 520mm Navi 21 but I doubt that changes anything

NT-H2 great CPU paste (one of the best in performance and by far the easiest to clean), but for GPU I'd stick with something like KPX or SYY157.

Have you ever used KPX for longer then 6 months ? They dry out really bad. NT-H2 really stays the same all the time. Ive had on my 2080Ti Gaming X Trio with 340W and it sat at 43c for over 1 year. no changes in anything. KPX started out with about 40c and creeped to 45C over 7 months time
