i did it that way because my washers would have touched board components. My backplate does not have springs either lol to my surprise. just some very tiny washers.That's awesome. I didn't get around to doing it yet, but you have inspired me, lets see if I can bring my 94 celsius hotspot down below at least 90 with a paste change and washers.

W1zzard shows the washer going under the backplate, but you did it above with the screw top, does it matter which way?
A small update, my GPU started freaking out, driver crashes and odd behaviour. I've removed the washers and all seems fine so far. I think I must have been bridging some resistors or something, so definitely use plastic spacers unless you are 100% SURE you aren't bridging any components or traces!
