NVIDIA DLSS Test in Battlefield V

Can you guys please tell me if DLSS is supposed to look like this ? I mean I'm so disappointed by the image quality that I'm even suspecting that my RTX 2080 is faulty...
Make sure to open them in a new tab and zoom 100%

I've compared DLSS OFF vs DLSS ON vs DLSS OFF resolution scale 75%

Thanks for posting the comparison shots. DLSS in BFV looks similar to what I've seen in FF XV and Metro Exodus, softness (to the point of blurring) and detail loss look to be inherent to how DLSS works.

The Turing generation is very disappointing, RT seems close yet far because of the huge performance hit and it still is a gimmick because it's not really full RT rendering, DLSS is even worse because it's just way too limited, it needs to be title Agnostic not depending on nVidia's supercomputers, it needs to be used locally something like a free 2x/4x MSAA like the 360 tried to achieve when it was launched.
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that nVidia wasted silicon on Tensor cores instead of putting much more regular Cuda cores, which could've improved performance dramatically over Pascal, but to be honest AMD are to blame too, even 2 years after Pascal the 1080ti is still beating everything from them...

Can you repost proper screenshots without all the stupid camera effects enabled. Chromatic aberration, distortions..etc..it just adds more smear and most people disable those anyways.

Don't like your FPS on a 4K monitor? Buy better hardware or drop at 1440p ultra preset. It will look better and provide more FPS that this. So what's the point?
The Point ? SALES of the rtx cards...

Are we seeing the same effect?

Your own side by sides see a serious hit to Image Quality, and my own testing does too. Whilst RT is nice, its seriously not worth the absolute murder being done to image quality.

It reminds me of the Quake 3 driver shenanigans in early 2000's, with both AMD & Nvidia caught out dropping Image Quality for better review FPS counts, except this time its a feature.

I want to know if when using DLSS if it is combined with TAA or does DLSS replace TAA? and when having DLSS disabled is TAA disabled as well?

Actually DLSS doesn't even allow you to have any sort of control on TAA or resolution scaling. Those settings are immediately greyed when you enable DLSS and do not have any effect if you try to set before enable DLSS.

So much hype for that... DICE own simple resolution scale tool does better at 75% while providing on average a bit more fps.

The downgrade is huge imo

Mahn, when I've reached the conclusion....damn, dude, it looks like some kind of poor advertisement. When it's obvious for everyone, useless dlss makes HUGE amount of blurr, author says "great refund!", "a little bit softer", etc.
This nvidia praising....leaves a really bad taste, u know?

I gotta agree, I feel this should have been panned, but TPU was very soft in its conclusion on this.

Yeah, well, someone gonna say “Hey, you wanna see new stuff reviewed - tolerate this kind of softness”,
but I wonder how other reviewers make decent reviews with truly obvious conclusion and result then?
It just seems like someone want a premium over what he earns...or we don’t know something?

The whole point in DLSS is to use the physical Tensor cores to prevent image quality loss from downscaling and upscaling. Because if I wanted performance and didnt care about image quality, I would just use the resolution scale and get the performance back.
Nvidia says it themselves..
1.
2.
3.
(generate pixels it has never seen before, aka fill in the gaps in a 1440p img and make it 4k)
4.
5.
( but in BFV DLSS looks worse than 1440p on a 4k screen ?)

STOP saying stuff like " what did you expect", "DLSS is going to be blurry" etc. AI is like a human (except its a lot faster and can correct stuff in real time when you play the game) that is supposed to fill in the incorrect stuff on the fly and make it not look like a straight up 1440p upscaling.
imagine if you were printing some photos and u find mistakes in the photos, you go back and fix them and then reprint them. But right now DLSS isnt doing that, it just seems to be doing the printing without correcting the images.

But I am disappointed that DLSS so far is not doing what it was hyped up as or what its actually supposed to do..

If it wasn't for the improved lightning and shadows on Metro, all the RTX goodies would be smoke and mirrors.
The only thing more disappointing than DLSS and RTX's RTRT is the fact that no one is competing to it yet.

is it just me or does DLSS look frigging awful

I gotta say DLSS was something I was excited about, til now. I dont want to be too reactionary, in the hopes that it is a case of "early days" and they may tune it better. But there is no way that whats being shown here is helping to justify the cost of RTX. I would rather a smaller performance bump while keeping my IQ as is tbh (ie, ditch the tensor cores.)

I still intend on buying a 2060 before the month is out and I could give two fucks about RTX/DLSS
its 1080 performance for 350-400 a 1080 is 549.00
the math there is a no brainier anything beyond that metric is just extra gravy

is real time ray tracing worth the performance hit fuck no ... do I care NOPE

nvidia should have just made RTX a top end SKU feature only and saved them selves and other people some headache

Would be so good if Nvidia can turn the RT and Tensor cores into Raster cores with a BIOS update lol.

nvidia posted that on their forums.

The sad thing is that GTX 1060 was GTX 980 performance, for 250-300 with up to 6gb of vRAM (versus 4) and AMD isn't really competiting... so we're kind of stuck with high price...

Oh yeah DLSS is a revolutionnary technology they say... a myopa simulator how cool.

Maybe one day future generations will appreciate DLSS. Just not today.

I kinda like Monet, but not in games.

DLSS does anti-aliasing itself. You should compare it to 75% resolution scale plus TAA.

Well it seems you missed my previous post in this threads... As it is exactly what I have done, and fyi you cannot disable TAA in BFV.

It cannot really be Aliased and Blurred at the same time, there's nothing impressive in DLSS in BFV, frankly it's a huge disappointment to me and 75% resolution scale + TAA provide much more detailled and sharp images and visibility is much much better.

Ah, so you were using TAA with DLSS off pictures? DLSS does better job on anti-aliasing than 75%+TAA, which can seen best from power line on the distance. But yeah that blur makes it useless and i would rather play with that 75% scale too.

To me the graphic quality seems degraded, less sharpness to the overall picture. I don't see the benefit of that new feature really.
