NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/3090 Founders Edition Sales Limited to BestBuy in the US

*

Even the biggest EU tech retailers (Mindfactory, MediaMarkt) don't have preorder option for 3080/90. Zero hits on "3080" in price on EU's search engines. What a joke of a launch :(

Yup, my order wich i placed on 18th september, will be shipped no sooner than CW46, according to mediamarkt. So 3 weeks already past, and 5 more left. At least.

I don't know why anyone, though NVidia would have any real large supply, did they not start production in what August ?

They probably did. But launches are like opening movie week-ends. You don't want to ramp production up to cover the launch time frame (because after that demand won't be as high, even if it doesn't fade away for GPUs like it does for movies), so you stockpile instead. These things happen when you stockpile enough for what you think the demand will be, but the demand turns out to be higher than that.

The only problem with that right now is the pandemic has throw monkey wrenches in how that usually works with massive demand on things regardless of normal demand.
Like how they said they seen more volume than black Friday. It makes me a bit worried that when "Black Friday" does come around they won't be ready for any of it.

You dont care about rdna2 and the comparison?

On launch morning, neither the 3080 or 3090 were available at Best Buy. People waited online for hours for BBY to open - some overnight.

I got my 3080 from Microcenter and my 3090.

I HATE BEST BUY.

I HATE SHOPPING AT BEST BUY.

Hummmm, of all the places they could have given large numbers of cards to, they picked BustBuy......what a friggin joke.....

Apparently, whoever is/was making the distribution-allocation decisions is/was partaking of the same REALLY, REALLY good substances that the director of pre-launch production ramp up was....

This board is as close to BustBuy as I will ever get, for numerous reasons :(

To some extent i do. I just dont sit on the hype train, until independent reviews are also up. But i guess looking at CW46... i have time for them too :)

So it's true then? Moore's Law is dead's leaker was right all along. NVidia is artificially rising prices of Ampere by intentionally creating bottleneck on the supply side. This greedy Nvidia plan has been rumored out a month before release and now we can see it unfolding in real time. Jensen is the master of milking shit out of FOMO consumers while still keeping good appearance.

I believe he said the in September AIB's had a $50 cashback from Nvidia for every 3080 and 3090 sold. In October that went away and prices increased. But due to the overall price insrease that was buried under other increases.

Also he said that FE was sold with very low margins from the start due to the expensive cooler. Basicly to get good reviews that the cards and cool and quiet and then phase them out and let AIB's take over with minimum $750 prices. More like $800+ due to the fact that AIB's can't produce much anything other than barebone models for $750.

So FE is a limited edition scam. $699 is another scam. Nvidia tested this scam with the "$999" 2080 Ti.

Lol, demand issue. Maybe in US, in EU they were out of stock from day 1. That's no demand issue, that's supply issue.
Partner cards are no better. Majority of online retailers in Poland are running online queues with 1 unit limit per customer. Even then you're still pre-ordering cards that are €100+ over their msrp.

I guess they wanted a lower demand /s

Jensen is FULL of s*it guys. Just lie, after lie after lie. NGreedia & AIBs didn't mean to fill retail stock in the first place. Just look at the orders of some major EU retailers Vs received units:

Ordered 2000, received 30, ordered 2000 Vs 25, 1000 vs. 36... I mean WTF??? That's not a demand issue, it's clearly a supply issue.

They should have launch the cards at $1500/$2500 instead of $800/$1500. Then just cut the prices as the shelves fill up with 3000 series, and empty 2000 series stock. Everyone's happy. They've mucked this up bad.

Conspiracy - I see nVidia fearing (unfounded probably) their entire RTX ecosystem going to shit by the end of November. Radeon 6000 series + PS5 + Xbox Series X will be all AMD. They had to get RTX 2.0 out as fast as possible before AMD's new "industry standard" hit shelves.

This is what happens when you produce GPUs with absolutely gargantuan dies. Yields suck so supply is low and you need to crank the price up to compensate. This isn't rocket science. I'm not sure if nVidia wasn't paying attention, but Intel tried doing this with CPUs and it's backfiring. I wonder what makes nVidia think that they can do it with GPUs and be successful.

Isn't the rumor that nvidia's ampere successor (Hopper) is going to chiplets in the future for this very reason?

That is little more than rumor at this point.
GPUs are different than CPUs (load is more or less uniform, you don't get intensive and non-intensive processes), so the weird latency that comes with chiplets will probably need special attention for GPUs.
It's clear a big die will have to go away at some point, but Idk whether the way forward is decided already.

What is it? 3 months from production until Nvidia has actual chips?

Sounds like they got enough chips to beat the AMD launch.

I suggest that the reason Nvidia did this was so they could change more for their cards. Since AMD would be at parity given the same cards and would not sell for as much if they launched after AMD did?

Last part is my speculation and only time will tell if the AMD cards are any good compared to Nvidia.

I was interested to buy a 3080 but not anymore, too many issues but what it drove me off for good was scalpers.

Largely the same. I might still consider the 20GB version assuming it does not perform worse. But yes the initial hype was good: good price, good performance uplift. But all the issues with the most notable being availablity pretty much killed any wish for me to buy the 10GB version. You had your chance Nvidia. And you missed it.

Ya'll are a bunch of whiners. If you want one, keep checking Best Buy, they sell for $699 when in stock. NOT above msrp.

Its not a scam like some of the lunatics in this thread.

Just have some patience damn.

I was gonna say, let the hate flow trough you, but quite honestly i understand your decision. I just hope more and more people cancel their order, so we can get ours faster :)

Do you have proof they're lies?
Yes, just few posts up in this page
At least he is not saying " some guy at some where"

There is no scalpers. İt is a lie by Nvidia and its propaganda team.

Those numbers are not for Best Buy though.
