Says the guy who's defending a multi billion dollar company. its insane to me. And btw , i didnt mention Steve(Gamer's Nexus) But sure make stuff up
I'm not defending anyone, the whole world is rotten. I just don't understand why you guys single out hardware manufacturers instead of asking what's going on in the whole world. My favorite breakfast yoghurt got a 130% pricehike.

sorry, you didn't mention GN, it was someone else. Still, you sound very emotional

Ngreedia's profit margin tells the different story. They hit 65%, all time high, before mining bust and AMD is no different. It's greed not the cost of dies that's hiking the prices.
Yeah, the net margin is what stays in their pocket, that didn't increased much on average only during the two crypto booms but now it's coming down again to 20%. So all in all what this picture shows is that their end results didn't increase since 2012.

Let me get this straight. YOU defend a company who's over charging their own base (including me) with insane price hikes and you say i am emotional ? At least argue with facts before casting the "emotional" card. You didnt even knew what die size was what before and calling me Emotional.

And this is why we cant have nice things. The tech companies are still earning the same if not more before the pandemic hit the world stage and are now laying people off because they now want the 2020-2022 economy. Price hike or nah , a AD104-400-A1 295 mm² gpu dosent cost 799+ and you know they wont stay at that price either. The biggest consumer single chip so far that i know off (2080Ti/Titan RTX - Die Size754 mm²) didnt cost 3k+ .
The 2080 Ti was made on TSMC 12nm which costed ~$4000 per wafer.
The 4070 Ti is on TSMC 5 nm which costs ~$17000 per wafer.
edit: according to rumors.

Any Reviews? Do we know for sure it matches a 3090Ti?

@W1zzard

I sure hope you will not praise the card or its pricing. I know it's power efficient, I know it can be faster than RTX 3090 Ti in select RT titles.

Everything here gets a 5/5. No matter if it undelivered performance, efficiency, affordability, and cooling - all at the same time. Look at RX 7900XT review. I would remove the star rating entirely (for the past reviews too) because it makes TPU look like sponsored influencers.

800+27%VAT 1020(only VAT)-1300(bonus for design or for energy price lol) usd matter of how much retailers put on it for the 4070 ti is still damn cheap(though it's not).
3070 ti cheapest are 790 usd(with vat), you can't get 3080 below 1060 usd (with vat and avg price for it is still over 1160 usd with vat), 3080 ti cheapest is 1670 usd(with VAT and avg 1850), 3090 with the best deal of the month 1965 usd (with vat but it's only one piece of card and after this somehow gone the next one is the avg min price is 2500 usd with vat GG Hungary, look how nice retailers we have), and there is no new 3090 ti.

Most of the 4080 tanked at 1560-1690 usd (with vat), 4090 cheapest at 2100 but avg 2600 usd (with vat).
7900 XT ohh boi price for it is 1170-1270 usd with VAT and the AIB design models are go for 1320-1450 usd, 7900 XTX 1530(only the standard)-1800(feel the premium, just feel it you can't see it).

So with that performance i can see it as an actual finally long last buy of a card for that price with 3090 performance, still it could be cheaper for a XX70 card like 600-650+VAT.I use a 970 and in 2021 wanted to upgrade for a 3070 ti or a 3080 HAHAHA lol, still using my 970.

The initial wafer cost for 14nm (12nm rebrand) was also around $16000 :D

This is a blatant insult and I refuse to pay $800+ for a midrange x70 SKU, I don't care how fast it is, this is a $499 card at its absolute worst.

The 2080 Ti was made on TSMC 12nm which costed ~$4000 per wafer.
The 4070 Ti is on TSMC 5 nm which costs ~$17000 per wafer.
edit: according to rumors.

OK, how many working dies come out of an N4 wafer and how many came out of a N12 wafer? That's your answer. BoM on this GPU as a whole should be substantially lower than the RTX 3080 - which was cheaper at launch.

Looks like they want anyone with 300 pounds to spare for a GPU to be content with GTX 980/RX 480 performance forever

Quick math using die per wafer estimator calc and known numbers:
2080TI 754 mm² die size -> 12nm 300mm wafer $4000 (yield of 80%) = 70 dies out of them fully 56 functional = $71 per die -> this die probably costed between $200 & $300 to produce at the start of N12 production
4080 379 mm² die size -> 5nm $17000 (yield of +90%) = 147 dies out of them fully 132 functional = $128 per die

As you can see new dies are more expensive to produce, but not groundbreakingly more expensive and prices will only get better once TSMC moves Apple's products to smaller node.

12nm entered into production in 2017, the 2080 Ti came out in September 2018. :D That article was written in 2020.

Nvidia says "formidable at 4K Ultra HD in games that can take advantage of technologies such as DLSS 3 frame-generation, or even classic DLSS 2"

So, it needs to render at a lower resolution than 4K because it can't hack native 4K? How is that formidable, exactly?!

It can limp to 4K if you give it some crutches.

Exactly, besides, this uses only 6 memory chips and has a significantly simpler PCB and VRM design. That cost is greatly offset just there - and they could get the 3080 out cheaper. NVIDIA's margin on this must be above 100%.

HaKN (I assume) assumed that because the AD104 is much smaller than TU102 then it must cost less, I reacted to that and you basically proved him wrong.
Btw a video card is more than just the chip. 2080 Ti has less memory, has GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X, it uses smaller heatsink (on the FE), copper and aluminum prices are up, pcb component prices basically doubled in the last 2 years, shipping is up, AIBs want more profit.
That's commonly called inflation.

Can we get a review showing CP2077 RT overload with DLSS 3.0 vs FSR 2.1? I bet this beats 7900xtx by 2x.

Your margin can never be 100% unless you sell air. Without a sales person. And no can.

Crypto boom and "I'm just waiting for the 4000 series at this point". Milking the desperate people before the prices fall to more reasonable levels.
waiting for 4000 series prices to fall is delusional, just look at current 3000 series prices. it's over. cheap or affordable GPU's are a thing of the past

Of course it can. You just charge more than twice what it costs for you to make the product. Semantics and inaccuracies aside, it's extortionate

Crypto boom and "I'm just waiting for the 4000 series at this point". Milking the desperate people before the prices fall to more reasonable levels.

I'm just not buying. After all, it's not like I've run into anything other than that Portal RTX tech demo of theirs my 3090 cannot run adequately. And even that one is a blatant case of self-sabotage to upsell next-gen products.

And when I do buy, it'll be from AMD.

It's not bad at all what is not to like. The very fact that it's not 256 bit like it should,

But take into account that 3080 Ti 3090 and all the halo products were discounted to under 1K. from the original 1199 to 1999. 3080 12 GB for as low as 750.

Clearly 48 MB L2$ and 192bit is as efficient as 384 bit 6MB. and the price being slashed from $999 3090 Ti 24GB, to a more reasonable 799 losing half of the bus and the memory, the same 40. Tflops.

The one to get is 4070 5888 Cuda version and if delivering 3070 Ti + 10% is as good as it gets, I'll take that. 3x faster than my 980Ti.
