Let it lie folks, mistakes happened, it happens to everyone, heck it happens to CNN, NBC, ABC, FOX, BBC, and etc daily. Bta is a good guy, he made a mistake that he owned, he apologized to everyone and asked for forgiveness. Let those who never made a mistake throw the first stone.

Common guys, relax. Saying someone to get fired who's real mistake was pointing at names, is at least schadenfreude. OK, we all make mistakes and its a way to get better at what we do. Saying that tech companies aren't influencing internet content makers is nothing new. Journalism has nothing to do with it. I have grown up in a age where tech news was published only every month in magazines from real journalists. Internet turn everybody in some kind of writer or video creator with pressure to rush everything out in time. Influencers are getting paid to stuff everything down our throats and big sites are getting paid to have theme colors of companies all the time painted in their sites. So if your job depends on it you won't hesitate to shill another company. Its not parthenogenesis, it happens. Stop talking rubbish and lynch someone who (at the end) expressed a personal opinion. Getting fired is a very bad thing and I wish it never happens to anyone.

So if reviewers get some kind of incentive by putting certain boxes in their AMD/Intel/NV reviews then they would need be legally inclined to indicate that... Example: "Navi 5700XT review [Sponsored by NVidia]" ... and now how bizarre would that look.

No. It wouldn't be illegal to not disclose it. Just against YT policy and FCC,FTC guidelines. It be almost a certainty any such involvement would be tied to a NDA by the company or the ad firm.

Youtube said:
You may include paid product placements, endorsements, or other content that requires disclosure to viewers ("Paid Promotion") in your video content. If you do, we require you to notify YouTube by checking the "video contains paid promotion" box in your Advanced Settings using the instructions below.

All Paid Promotion needs to conform to our Ad Policies. In addition, creators and brands are responsible for understanding and complying with their legal obligations to disclose Paid Promotion in their content, including when and how to disclose and to whom to disclose (so be sure to check and comply with your legal obligations).

If a Youtuber doesn't check that box, Youtube wont know about it and the content creator wont get a % reduction which is an incentive not to disclose it and the consumer (everyone watching) will never know about it.

There is no practical way to take "collective stance" as that would mark the extinction of the vast majority of sites/channels. And it wouldn't fix anything, I am convinced the largest players are the most involved in this and they sure as hell wont let go of their businesses.

So what am I to take from this ? That as soon as we hurt someones feelings we should back off ? I couldn't care less that TPU put up a screenshot of one of GN's videos and no one should.

It's this fear of pointing fingers and making sure everything remains "anonymous" and "alleged" that makes this garbage to keep on going.

You should take from this that making baseless and defamatory accusations can result in serious legal consequences and are below the standards we should hold journalists to.

The mistake he made was defaming another journalist with literally no basis. If GN had suffered any losses, this would have been a slam dunk lawsuit because the writer couldn't be bothered to even attempt to verify his story. This wasn't just sloppy, it was grossly unprofessional and risked TPU's existence for chump change.

Remember...this has naught to do with GN. It has to do with NVIDIA allegedly influencing YouTubers to have preferential product placements. As the whistleblower says, this isn't necessarily illegal but it is something people should be mindful of.

Right, and to this I reply: 'who the hell is this whistleblower then'

You need your sources verified before this Reddit post becomes anything more than some random idiot typing something up on a phone. Otherwise what you've got is a steaming pile of nonsense.

I agree its not going to be easy or even practical. But it is always possible to cooperate, to create a collective - it can be as simple as creating a little club that shares hardware to test for review. Boom problem solved cheap hardware and a nice little way of being independant. And a way to become too big to ignore, too. Its not hard. It takes a community drive.

Defamation by implication will suffice in virtually every jurisdiction I can think of in the in the United States.

P.S. The number of years you've posted on a website doesn't substitute for a license to practice law.

Seeing the level of intellect in this thread, if someone goes on to write an article "TPU publishes article defaming nvidia and TechTubers solely basing on one 'supposedly AMD fanboy' member's DMs" it wouldn't be too far from the truth.

Same can be said for Neowin presenting a pop-up on first visit with your adblocker on. Didn't use to be that for a while, so it must be financial related decision.

I'll take a side of punctuation to go with my Graham crackers.

But for real, if it's that bad for you, nothing is stopping you from getting a head start of bailing early. I'm not sure what are you going for with your post.

Maybe it's time for @OneMoar to move on from TPU. He's made his opinion of @btarunr well heard, and where he thinks TPU stands.

So you're saying that the air of desperation and the steady uptick in low quality content, dubious sponsorships, and so on, has no financial reason to be occurring, it just happened anyway?

All the more reason to:

1 - Ditch the cd key sponsors and reach out to companies that people trust more
2- improve the quality of case reviews so that they're not a rubberstamping exercise. Did you know that Darksaber has given 88 awards to 75 cases, last I counted?
3 - bring editorial content back up to standard, see the post I linked prior and this thread for details.

"Everyone has an MTBF. I hit mine today." Agreed. You have also mentioned that you, "saw a PMs from forum members about this story, and like a dog chasing cars I ran behind this story without due diligence. "

So, the OG thread was anonymous and provided no proof.
Your article continues to be an embarrassment,
So WHY the phvck have you not taken this piec-o-shite article DOWN?

We get it. You're sorry about what you did to GNSteve. But, it's still implicating YouTuber's without proof and that is irresponsible as hell.

Take it down!
And take break - and don't knock yourself out too much. You have apologized, so end it.

The horse has left the barn.
A cute idiom doesn't always provide a complete answer to a question.
The article is still garbage. It unfairly casts suspicions upon all tech YouTubers. Leaving the article up gives it legitimacy and life. The horse is trampling the flowers. (damn horses)

So let me get this straight, you found (or got pointed towards) an anonymous conspiracy theory post on reddit and you made a clickbait article about it? Then when you got called out about everything wrong in it you got scared and started covering your butt through disclaimers?

Did you even once thought to fact check BEFORE you started writing this utter nonsense?

You probably did. But clickbait > facts am i right? Yeah i'm right.

Nor does your post. You've censored your bar number... we can't validate anything and that's a weird way to brag.

I can actaully think of some legally iffy things TPU has done (advertising partners anyone?), but this article? It's never going to go anywhere in court.

What are you people doing here then ? You question the level of intellect in this thread ? Whoa, that is some pretty edgy stuff, what I am wondering is why do you chose to partake in this low IQ discussion if that's the case ?

Don't let us bring you down mate, go, escape while you can ! Don't let us take away your IQ points.
