NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti Ray-tracing "SOTR" Barely Manages 30-60 FPS at Full HD

noone has seen the benefits yet, wait until reviews. everyone is assuming and basing this off of 1 game that is in pre beta

The game isnt in pre-beta. RTX implementation is. The game was being shown off in Beta back in May. Nvidia announced collab in April. SotTR has been doing the show rounds ever since.

ray tracing isnt even out yet and supports more games than hairworks, its not a fair comparison as ray tracing is already more relevant xD

All these game implementations are collabs "funded" by Nvidia. What does that tell you. If Hairworks wasnt that widely implemented its because it wasnt funded by Nvidia to be included in the game. How is that going to translate when Nvidia doesnt collab "fund" these RTX implementations.

hairworks is a low grade tressFX copy, ray tracing is something amd and nvidia will both use through directx aswel, this is here to stay and to stay in most future games, it is literally reinventing the way lighting reflections and shadows work in games, it is such a high magnitude above anything right now.

Ray-Tracing is but we are talking RTX. Nvidia implementation

If we are talking Ray-Tracing we might as well expand the conversation and say what are the chances and what roll/impact does DX12 DXR have.

In order to get to RTX your going through DX12 & DXR. The adoption rate without "funding" is abysmal and some how its being talked about as if all devs and their IP will be clamoring to do this work as if they been waiting for this moment.

If Devs arent being 'funded" will they even bother to do DXR or just stick to current fall backs?

Well i mean once the sdk is ironed out ray tracing objects will be far easier to do them manually faking shadows and lighting effects, its implemented all in 1 go and not a huge process

Me and a friend figured out how to calculate giga rays and rtx ops, and its a fricggen cartoon
Hk5xyYiIQ.png
RTX-OPS = purple_ratio x (clock x tensors x 128) + green_ratio x ((clock x rt_cores) / 11 x 10 + cuda_cores x 2 x clock) + yellow_ratio x (cuda_cores x 2 x clock) + blue_ratio x (cuda_cores x 2 x clock)

Appreciate the vid above -

While I appreciate his explanation of his opinion on the pricing, that doesn't help consumers at all who would have normally been interested in the niche the "Ti" model traditionally filled. You've got the 70, 80, and 80Ti models now and there used to be a 4th card in there right below the top model that was called the Ti that was an incredible bargain - almost Titan performance but way cheaper and we don't know if that model is coming or not, now.

So consumers like me who would've been interested in buying a couple 2080Ti cards under normal circumstances are now not interested at all because I'm certainly not going to move to a pair of 2080s for what would likely be a marginal performance improvement, and I'm surely not going to move to 2080Ti cards for a ~25% performance bump (assuming he's right about that) whilst paying a ~70+% pricing premium.

Therefore the conclusion for me based on the currently available information on Turing is that I'll stick with what I've got. I'm open to more information, always, and if the 2080Ti releases and is ~3x as fast as a 1080Ti in the games I play then I'd reconsider, but I think that's incredibly unlikely. To me it looks like NVidia is simply price gouging due to no competition. I'd be happy to be proven wrong as I was looking forward to the 20-series and an upgrade this fall or spring, but right now I'm not too interested based on the info available.

It's a new feature. Did people really expect 60+ FPS in AAA titles with ray tracing enabled? You keep it off and Im willing to bet your performance will double and even triple in most cases. Even without matured drivers and pre release games.

The titan is $3000 USD.

Now that is what I'm most curious about.... the new sli fingers and their new features/performance. Neither companies have been in promotion of multiple cards as of late so I'm curious if something exciting is in store.

My response was to the point the video author was making. He makes the case that the Ti model is now the "Titan" of old, and then I responded with how I view that, which is to say, I won't be purchasing anything in the Turing line unless the Ti model is looking at an insane performance bump over 1080Ti (we're talking double or triple performance which is very unlikely). This is all of course based on the information that's currently available (it may change in the future).

Me too. I do look forward to reading the review, if for nothing else, than reading about the technology changes themselves.

Glad I got my 1080ti for under 500$ a few months ago, maybe prices will go under that at some point soon, but unless these cards blow it out of the water it may keep a fairly high value due to the prices of these new cards all being higher than that and significantly so.

Don't get your hopes up. Turings have "SLI fingers" for 2 NVLink 2.0 links (50GB/s both ways, that is the 100GB/s total in the marketing slides) but it has already been confirmed that Turing Geforces have one of the links disabled. 25GB/s is fast but not that fast to bring something new to the table. This will not change anything. Multi-GPU remains problematic and both vendors keep dialing it down.

For comparison, standard SLI bridge has bandwidth around 1GB/s, HB SLI bridge has about 2GB/s. So NVLink is a good tenfold increase.

I have been called an nvidia fanboy more than once in a derogatory tone.

Who cares, people are dumb. What's so bad about being a 'fanboy' anyways? I'm a fan of Nvidia to some degree, I'm a fan of AMD to some degree. Call me a fanboy of both if you will. Right now I'm really disliking Intel more than anyone though...despite having terrible luck with garbage AMD processors(recent laptop purchase).

Fanboy is when you stop being a fan and cross the line of rationality. It's when the company you root for can do no wrong and everybody else is just trying to kill your precious ;)

As relevant as unreal engine gloss. If they think every floor is a mirror finish, then this is going to be cartoony as hell.
Look, Im not for this overpriced model series at all, but I watched the whole presentation, and you are oversimplifying to serve your own agenda.

There were plenty of dull, matte, rough surfaces in the games shown that accurately represent those type of materials. Shiny was only where shiny should be.

Due to pricing, Nvidia has to basically destroy the previous generation (which you can get at half to less price for each tier especially used) and typically you don't get 50-100% performance increase on every game/app you use with new gen. so I'm skeptical it's worth the price, but not skeptical that it will perform well and do it's job and be efficient. The 1080ti was way overpriced for a while but that was all demand and mining etc and that has corrected and will go further down, so that is part of why this 500$ and up pricing scheme raises my eyebrows and makes me wonder how it can possibly be worth the asking price at every tier/model as last gen models of high/top tiers are particularly "reasonable" relatively speaking.

Hey, Gollum isn't here to defend himself! Well....lol I won't insult anyone here :toast::roll:
Except that:
1. Price does not increase linearly with performance. The ratio at the high-end has always been wacky (even without Nvidia's latest attempts to set new records :D )
2. Surprisingly, they seem to be selling their cards even at these prices that are far out of what I consider reasonable.
3. One has to admit that if it's expensive for them, it doesn't mean it's expensive or unreasonable for the next person. Apple bet on this and from near bankruptcy they're now the richest company in the world.

And just for context, I only spend in the $200-300 range for a video card. Not because I can't afford more expensive models, but because that's how much a video card is worth to me.

Except that:
1. Price does not increase linearly with performance. The ratio at the high-end has always been wacky (even without Nvidia's latest attempts to set new records :D )

Agree with it all. I know and agree and almost mentioned the price non-linear scaling when dealing with performance on top tier cards etc you're absolutely right. But, that being said like you I do look at the linear scaling of dough and it's pointless to buy a brand new card for over a grand, that's absurd. Sure, like Apple (who I hate btw) fools and their money will soon be parted, but for the rest of us, we get best we can get for value and don't just spend max to get max with no budget in mind.
