I love this genre of game, but Path of Exile is just too much for me, its too much dedication. Is it normal to be a lazy gamer like me? Grim Dawn and Torchlight 1 and 2 and Diablo 3 were all plenty for me for a few years. Am I mindless sheep because of this? ; ; gg life

I spent 3 years on this game, starting in beta and taking one year off before giving up for good. I never made it to regular Atziri, so yeah, dedication is putting it mildly. The ugly truth is, despite developers' best intentions, this has turned into a trading game.

there is something wrong with their drop rates (rng engine or somethig related) as for past 3 leagues i've seen drops of one and same uniq items over and over again while never seen others which supose to drop as zone related drops.
in last league event i've got shaper jewelry for set sale before i've did 50 maps with (0 red tire maps) while in the original leugue for more then 150 maps (about 10 red open) i've got 2 belts and one elder ring from t14 or t15 map and never seen other ring or amulet.
so if you are trying to make a build that can hit end game content farm before league end you get to the point where you have to buy gear cause your drop is "unlucky".
in standard league you have to invest infinet amount of time to farm for gear till you finily give up and go buy it as your drop is still... yes "unlucky" ^^
as an example i was trying to get twined map for challange (t14 map after it is finished 1 more map left to finish the challange) spent over 200 alterations and couldnt get it. i've seen different combinations of same 10-15 mod and even 2-3 time i got taxed orb for no actual change of the mod not twined.
had to go to main incursion leageu and pay double for the map to get it from market. then got twined with ~20 orbs

Eh, you'd be surprised how much work the RNG does.
For example, World of Tanks has been proven to generate better rewards if it detects a returning player. It also increases the number of bounces over time, so that, no matter what tank you're driving, you'll feel compelled to upgrade (i.e. pay).

In your case, is probably just a streak of bad luck. Because yes, RNGs can do that, too.

it can, but seeing one and the same pattren in 3 leagues in row (2 and half as i missed some of the abbysal) makes me think it isnt only rng itself but it implementation and other things that happen in background of the game are flawed.
one and the same uniqs drop for entire league (in beastary had one leather cap 7-8 times, 2-3 of amulets had 5-6 times each, about 5-7 rings again 5-8 times each) and then league event starts at 3 weeks before league end and it starts to drop more diverse items like if those items were disabled from drop table (or were with really low drop rate).
it is the same with current league just the items are different.
i see some strange pattrens that sure partially can be explained with how pseudo rng behave but still i cant belive even pseudo rng can be stuck to combination 7-8 prefixes and suffixes out of table of ~42 pre and ~50+ sufixes for more then 200 rolls.
other example are breach splinters. for league event 2 persons combining splinters together we got ~170 red, ~150 blue, ~70 white, ~40 black and less then 20 purples. quite uneven spread for something that suppose to be 1/5 chance for each

Now that incursion is done I will not be playing the new league and instead focus on standard. I will try the new league just for the hell of it but I'm getting tired of having to start fresh each league and this new one doesn't look all that great. I hate maps that are dungeon and mines...I prefer the out door ones so the new league doesn't appeal to me really.


It would be cool if they had a game mode that allows you to take a standard character into a new league just for end game maps. I know this will not happen but it would be cool to use any of my higher level characters outside of standard.

Being a casual gamer I only managed to hit L86 in Incursion.

So...recently I was kinda bored and decided to install Path of Exile again.
I got a lil bit to type about that. If you aint got time you're reading the wrong post.

A lil backstory: a couple of my brothers got me into Path of Exile back in 2013 when Anarchy league was running. We had played D2 LoD, Median XL mod, and Titan Quest LAN for years, but Path of Exile was unhackable and looked pleasingly challenging... ~3 years of nerfs, stupid skill tree allocations, QQ and ragequitting later, I'm the last one of us playing and I ragequit for a reason I've since forgotten halfway through Talisman league in Q1 2016.

Back to recent events...Beginning of September, I reinstall this game, on my now-ancient, relegated to dusty-garage-duty PC (Q6700@3.4, 4GB DDR2-900, RX460) and decide to tackle the mess that I know is my Stash box in regular ol scrubcore. No Delve for me, I got my fill of underground games back in the dark DOS days of text input. Oh yeah, baby, Read-Only tabs everywhere and legacies that I didn't even know turned legacy, for better or for worse. Over 30 tabs of crap to move around. 10 characters over L80 who have nothing allocated on a skill tree I don't exactly recognize anymore. Well, shit, first thing first: Stash. Baby steps.

3 weeks of OCD-level hair-thinning tab-juggling later (ended up buying currency tab, fragment tab, essence tab, map tab and 12 more prem tabs), I'm at the point where I can research just what in the blue heck is even going on anymore. The 10-Act system is a welcome change over doing 3-4 Acts 3 times, but holy smokes there is a lot of running! Modern items and jewels are on another level of awesome and Standard no-lifers are more rich and elitist than ever. Buddha forbid you post your 2% off perfect legacy item without some mealy-mouth no-lifer shitting on it and posting something 1% better and with some "Enchant" you never even heard of.

There's a lot of neat new game mechanics tho, and after rebuilding one of my Whispering Ice builds and totally sucking ass, I decided to follow a forum build for my second time ever, using said staff. This staff has a spell that does damage based on your character's Intelligence, which I find to be a fun game mechanic. I see new guys post in chat that they have problems staying alive, when they have less life points than I have Intelligence points. Occasionally I try to point that out to a noob that I think might get the point, but it's just pissing against the wind.

You can put a wholke lot of thought into this game, Path of Exile is no joke. There are over 1200 nodes on an enormous skill tree that you'll never get more than ~121 points for. That's assuming you can make it to L100. Well, 1-98 is halfway to L100. Once you're leveled in the 90's, a death might lose you a few days or a week of progress. Good times. TBH game's starting to piss me me off, well after helping @fllmatter lvl one of his chars he disappeared lol, he kindly came on to help me but.

Well as you know Delve was released and my good wife wanted to try it so to cut a long story short that's what is pissing me off, at lvl 90 finding my self stuck in getting Tier10+ maps. 60% chance of getting a higher tier typicaly ends up with me getting just lower ones, o yeah 60% my ass more like 20%.

To find out that what people are doing is scrubbing old maps so they show as they have not been completed. I am like WTF game by design makes you think you should complete maps to get better ones this is so wrong and i guess is my fault wanting to play with out using guides. But as i said by design the game encourages you to complete the maps then stabs you in the back as you will have to scrub a load which in turn costs a load to do lol.

Not played much over the last week with screwing my back up 8 days ago but this map finding is just a pain in the ass as without those you cannot level.

But anyways, @zenlazerman be more than willing to have a game or 100+ with ya, just msg me your in game info.

Yeah, sustaining maps is a struggle for many people still. Your best chance is to roll a map with >90% quantity and >20% pack size mods. Even then, you might get only a 1-2 maps well under the Tier you're on. Frustrating when you spent enough currency rolling your map that alternatively could have bought a decent piece of gear no elitist wants.

Way back in the day we had to actually use exalts on our maps to get the rolls we wanted, if we hoped to sustain the Tier. I hear that's coming back, at least, I've seen a few people exalting their T16s these days. So far I've had too many maps drop (been converting some of them into chisels) but I'm just doing T10 or under until I hit L85 on this new build.

Welll what does help is having magic find, my current char sucks for it though which would explain why i have not been finding many maps as before i had all kinds of things that i could get to work with the ranger.

Maybe that's why chaos orbs are losing value right now.

Would of replied much sooner but apparently i do not always get the alerts.

Low maps are not the problem, for ever running out of the high 10+ maps. but having a break from the game now might start playing again on the 7th or close too.

Sounds like I'm going to have to take a special three day course again to get back into PoE. Its like that every other update, and I'm starting to lose the appetite... It would be nice if things just stayed as they were for awhile. Like a good year or two.

Ha! I got a handful of Chin Sols, I was never able to make a build around that.
In fact, I was only able to make a somewhat decent bow wielding evasion ranger, but she was too squishy in the end.

Amen to that. I got ripped to shreds by the three guys before Atziri, without any way of knowing what hit me. Considering I only had the shards to open the portal like a dozen times only, I said screw that.
The main reason I quit though, is not PoE's fault. In order to keep the inflation of the economy in check, every single MMO (regardless of genre), inevitably transforms into a trading game. And I don't like trading games.
