Updated, my 3DM06 is up to 19507 now, I'm really surprised that I've been able to get my 3870X2 to 918 on both cores, for some reason I have to set it to 930 for it to register as 918. I'm gonna be going water cooling soon so I'll hopefully be able to crank it up more :D

are you doing any mods on the card?? 918 is really sweet!!

That 918/930 thing, I had the same problem with mine! It has to get up to the next strap level. Or whatever the equivalent is for GPUs. I bet if you went to 934(or somewhere near) you would get to a higher clock.

Let me know if those can go even higher, ohh and for water, I recommend EK water blocks. I got a full cover for my 3870 and I LOVE it. It keeps the core at 35 C running 100% at 904mhz

can you please put a GPUz screen shot with your post. Its really important that you have that.
Below I have included a pic by me!! this is exactly how its supposed to look. It makes it much easier to update.
Thanks for your help:toast:
got it with a hair more on the GPU mem.

very very impressive mod, i would like to do that to my 3870 but im gonna wait until it becomes alittle old, just incase i destroy it I dont want to feel like i wasted 250 bucks!

I just thought I would share this again, I posted this on Jan. 14, then I tried modding my card on the 17th. On the 18th it died :(. I have not had a card since(besides a crappy 1650pro I had lyin around) Lately I have been really going crazy and decided that its time to get back into the game.

Im hoping I can round up all my parts this week or early next week. Im getting a new video card, a mobo and a new case!!! yeah for me!!!

I know this has no bearing on the topic, but i thought it was funny!

This is my laptop, its the only thing I can play games on right now, and its moderate at best!
I can still play my UT3 at high rez!

No mods :D all stock ;), I'll clock my CPU back up now and do a re-run and post some screenies. I downclocked my CPU to keep things nice and cool. Is there any way of upping the volts of a 3870X2 through software yet? (bar flashing the bios)

the later bios moves in 13 mhz jumps.. the next one after 918 is 931.. there is nothing in between..

if the CCC says anything between these 13mhz jumps the card is clocked at the lower figure.. for example 930 would still be 918..

its also been said this is the difference between the two bios.. the early one moved in 7mhz jumps.. at 864 it f-cked up.. at 872 it passes the f-ck up and works okay..

the later bios cos it jumps in twice as big a jumps never hits the f-ck up point..

so if u go straiight from 862 to 874 the early bios works.. u miss the error point.. assuming your card will run this fast many wont..

its also very clear later chips are better than the early ones.. later chips seem to be going places the early ones needed a volt mod to go..

thats the numbers I was looking for, thanks trog.

And I was really impressed with my GeCube when it was running, I was at 891 all day, I could bench at 904, and alot of others needed a volt mod to hit that. Back then i was doing good, but now there is many people that have hit the 1000!

the other thing i need to point out.. the ati reference cooler is a very good cooler all it needs is the fanfix bios.. ati chose to run the fan at around 30% and target 90 C as the cards operating temps..

check this thread to see how the reference cooler with fanfix bios and the zalman cooler compare..

hey trog, do you think your crossfire would run any faster if you were on a true dual 16x board??

hey trog, do you think your crossfire would run any faster if you were on a true dual 16x board??

yes... more so at low resolution 3dmarks than in higher resolution games..

the 17k would be nearer 19k in 2006 and the 55k would be nearer 70k in 2003..

basically the more the card is loaded with a higher resolution and AA.. the less the difference is.. the fast cpu and low resolution 3dmarks exaggerate the real differences..

it kinda works i the same way a slower cpu would.. high resolution low frame rates no difference.. low resolutions high frame rates big difference..

trog

ps.. my amd 6000+ at 3.35 gig with a true 16 x 16 pci-e 2 board only made 13000 in 2006.. so it aint quite as clear as it seems..

ps.. my amd 6000+ at 3.35 gig with a true 16 x 16 pci-e 2 board only made 13000 in 2006.. so it aint quite as clear as it seems..

yah, I see what you mean. And that makes sense.

So you plan on switchin to a x38/48 board??

correct me if i am wrong, I thought only the 790 boards from amd are a true multi 16x. Or if I am wrong, what otehr platforms can handle it??

my amd example was a 790x mfi board.. sadly it didnt do much in 2006 without the overclocked intel chip to drive it..

but no i aint planning to go P38/48 any time soon.. i went anti-cross fire after the first try which was why i bought the p35 board.. i did toy with the idea of one x 2 3870 but settled for another cheapo 3870.. i still dont think crossfire is worth having.. but still have it.. he he he

the extra card didnt cost that much.. and crossfires default setting is OFF

Very happy with my new system over the last month, built around the new E8400 processor. With crossfire as a futureproof, I am hoping this system will last many years.
