I could get my 290x to 1200/1600 for the 4 min it takes to run unigine with +200mv and a DMM measured voltage of 1.43v. Now this was a highscore run so I was running it with artifacts every where. Normal clocks for the 290x are 1140/1500 +50mv. In CFX I ran 1150/1450 on +125mv with my daily driver being 1110/1450 on +50mv. I haven't run the R9 290 solo yet so I haven't tested it's limits.

I use 2 XFX 290x GPUs they have elpida memory chips but I did get them before the price increase. :) I run both at 1050/1350 gaming and bench them up to 1100/1450.

I also mine with them most of the time, so they are solid cards and XFX had a good warranty for US based peeps.

What mv do you use on the core\Aux ?

Just got my R9-290 Tri-x. It's pretty awesome. I got the non-o/c version as it was $30 cheaper, $539 AUD (approx. $460 USD). The cheapest GTX780 is $579 AUD. Not only did 4GB Vram sound good, but I particularly wanted the Sapphire card for it's flex connections. My previous 7950's need an active DP to DVI converter at $50min, the last one broke after just 2 months so didn't want to go down that route again, plus it's messy and doesn't work well (screen tearing). The Sapphire card allows me to use 2x DVI and 1xHDMI which is great.

The cooler is very long but works very well. A second Tri-x wouldn't fit in my case unless I mod'd the lower drive bays, but I could get a shorter one from MSI.

I flashed the o/c BIOS to it (1000/5300) and it worked no problem. There's a strange thing where I don't get the "target GPU temperature" in any version of CCC, which no-one has been able to explain. initially it meant it kept throttling, as I tried to o/c, to keep the temp below 65C without ramping up the fans, but with the 13.12 WHQL drivers it allows the temps to increase without much throttling, which is much better

It has Hynix memory, which o/c to 6400 easily. Don't know why they don't do this as standard. The ASIC quality is 84.8% which is the highest I've had.

It'll o/c to 1100/6400 stable in Furmark, with +150mV, but temps get up to 85C on the core and 100C on the VRM which is a bit high, with fans at 50%. I used this to benchmark in Firestrike and it matches a stock 780ti (11815 Graphics scroe ). Interestingly, the Volts in GPU-z only hit around 1.15v.

At 1025/6400 +43mV, it'll score the same as a 780 @ 1176/6464 in Firestrike (11092 graphics score), with decent temps around 70C, which is pretty impressive. Stock at 957/5000, it'll match a Titan and stock 780 (10242 graphics score).

Benchmarking at 1000MHz, it my system takes around $360-380W, at 1100MHz, it takes up to 460W.

Just watercooled my R9 290. Haven't had much time to tweak it yet but did get a 3Dmark run in at 1150/1325

Hey chaps ! Well I started off with the Asus DC2 OC R9 290 however, the card recently became faulty (and I found the back plate was way too roasty) so I swapped it for the Sapphire R9 290 Tri X Oc and i'm very impressed with the card.

I installed the NZXT Kraken G10 bracket with a Corsair H55 in push pull front mounted. The thing was a pain to install as their pins are a few mm too short but in the end iv'e ended up with a stable 1200 core 1500 mem overclock with temps hovering between 60c - 64c (in full load) with +150mV offset set in Sapphire Trixx. These cards have the SK Hynix mem which does 1500mhz no worries :toast:

Nice dude. Looks good and those temps are great.

How's that quad channel memory performing? Any noticeable difference in benches?

Can you 290 crossfire non x users do me a favour and open up two qpuz apps and make sure ulps is active. Do both cards show the same rops and shader count plus what about the the bus width and band width? Are they all the same?
Edit also look at the shader count. The shader are showing the same as a 290X card in the one and a non 290x in the other. I did a fresh is install last night and still shows this. Is it @W1zzard is this a gpuz bug? If I render gpuz at full screen it shows both running at 3.0

EDIT: Well I guess Im the only 290 cross-fired member here but I found out the issue.

ULPS was active and threw everything outa wack. Just dont forget to enable it or it'll turn your room into an oven over night :fear:

Finally solo benched my R9 290 got as high as 1200mhz core clock on +175mv(with artifacts occurring after card warmed up) and 1450mhz memory clock. The card has a really iffy display output and stops displaying an image for the first 10sec of Unigine Heaven.

wth is/who that? nvm I just looked at your system spec's :)

Try lowering the core and raising the memory or vs versa?

How are you guys clocking your cards? Is it specific at all and is moving the power limit necessary? I cant get this thing to do 5mhz over without artifacting im completely under the impression I must be doing it wrong but I dont know what it is im fucking up.

As it was explained to me, treat it like a 7970.
Crank up the power limit to the max. You wont fuck it up.

I havent been with AMD since probably my 1ghz run with some 6 series card I owned for 2 weeks my card still fails on power limit.

can anyone provide a list of programs or maybe their is a afterburner setting im missing? or possibly the worst 290x silicon lottery on the planet?

Oops I meant finally

And the R9 290 is really iffy it's like a combination of my luck with GPU chip quality(never got a card better than slightly below average) and Gigabytes manufacturing blunders on the R9 290 production line.
So the card is really weird. It doesn't like:
POSTing (The POST code sequence 96>94>AE haunts my nightmares ever since I got the card)
Displaying an Image (Associated with the POST codes and Unigine)
CPU Strap changes (Anything other than 100mhz = no image)
Running in CFX with the R9 290X (makes it do the above even more often)
Running in general
Returning consistent OC results (Sometimes 1500mhz on mem is stable sometimes 1350mhz on mem causes the screen to tun into a repetitive pattern)
Scaling with voltage(175mv and 200mv have the exact same artifact quantities)

What it does do well is mine Dogecoin at which it beats the 290X by about 8%
And since the card works the way I want 95% of the time I don't really find it a problem.

The R9 290X on the other had is pretty much just your normal GPU that sends an image through an output and throws of heat.

When i use CCC shit hits the fan, last time i tried the overclocking was with afterburner but only moved the core upto 1100 without issue..

My default clocks are 1050\1250 and did not require any voltage change for the extra 50MHz.

Not bothered since as there been no reason to overclock it lol.

In afterburner i unlocked voltage control and monitoring.

I am having some fairly major issues with chopy gameplay, and in general system instability when using Crossfire. Is it possible that the R9 290x's using the PCI bus could be causing this? Like a crowded highway?

How are you guys benchmarking Mantle? What tool are you using?

What games are affected BPGT64? AMD worked on DX10/11 titles for frame pacing so the runt frames and stuttering may still be present on DX9 titles.

Are you using vsync? I know that vsync has been broken with cossfire enabled for months and months. If you run crossfire go back to 13.11 beta 8 drivers and use DX. Vsync and crossfire works fine with those drivers.

It's Mantle + Crossfire thats' the issue. If i change the API, and restart the game, it's ridiculously stable fps, and completely enjoyable..
