Another case where you think you know but you don't.

90% of AMD gpu buyers can't even submit an UL(3DMark) benchmark because their Tesselation bias aginst AMD means users can't even submit a bench run on completely stock gpu's. You are supposed to be able to, but it never works right making your submission invalid. Now about those stats?

...don't use modified drivers (how do you think that NimeZ snake oil works?) and/or leave your Radeon settings at default, and it will work.

If tessellation load was modified by driver settings, then 3DMark will indeed invalidate the score because - well, the score isn't valid, you're cheating.

Nvidia is no different either, change one setting in NVCP from its default and you get invalidated runs on 3DMark :)

As it should be, for scores to be fair, hardware must run at vendor-defined default settings :)

i'm not talking about expert level data about sales, but as a general idea it works, and they are accurate for as much as i can tell, with hundreds of stores they pretty much all tell the same story, so does steam survey.
I think we don't need thin hats here.

B&H for example has a 4080 in slot number 1 whereas a 3060 doesn't appear until number 13. The top 10 mostly high end 4000 series GPUs with 2 Intel arc GPUs and a 1650 ti thrown in.
Microcenter's top 10 is all high end 4000 series GPUs with a 3060 not appearing until slot 19.
Newegg has more lower end cards in the top ten than high end with the 3060 taking the top slot. It has a nice mix of AMD and Nvidia cards as well.
Best Buy has the 3070 as the top selling card with a mix of graphics cards in the top 10 consisting of high end and low end cards favoring the high end cards.
Amazon has a GPU support bracket as the top seller with 3 of the top 10 sellers being a 3060 and strangely the RX 580 at number 10 despite that card not being in production anymore.

Depending on the store you go to, you could get a completely different take on what is top selling. If a card is really top selling it'll typically land somewhere on that list but as pointed out earlier, where exactly is heavily influenced by the algorithm.

I think the moral of the story is at best we can speculate but looking at what sales data we have available to use is about as definite as guessing what the weather will be like this time next year.

It will happen with completely bone stock AMD WHQL drivers, because it would false flag. Constantly. Tesselation always set to application. In short it's always buggy, until someone complains and they "fix-it" for awhile.

Just like Steam "fixed" their survey results it seems....lol.
