Thanks for reminding me that I'm in a queue for EVGA 3080 FTW3, should arrive any day now, need to check with EVGA.I need help how to vote with my wallet. My current gpu shits the bed in FF7 Rebirth at 1440p 60fps even if I lower the dsr to 66%. What should I do? Get a PS5 Pro? I'm waiting for the Evga 3060Ti Ftw3 since 2020, but it never arrived.
I shall do everything my wife proposes to ensure sustainable prosperity and progress for my children as well as for my nation.

"lazy "is a lazy comment. They don't have a 5090 competitor because the business case wasn't there. They priced the 5080 the same as 4080S. It is 8% better and has MFG. Still not much for long 2,5 years of development.
Stagnation and rot, AMD too lazy to even put anything out in high performance category.
It was a glitch in the publishing system, computers sometimes do that, you cannot prevent it completely...It happens even to the best of reviewers.

Really? Did you ever have high end gpus in your life before? Can you tell me what gpu was able to max out every possible game ever? I've gone through plenty of high end gpus (gtx 770, 1080ti, 3090, 5870hd etc.), I couldn't max out games at over 60 fps ever. The 1080ti was actually struggling at 1080p on 2 year old games (watchdogs 2 for example). It's not normal that GPUs like RTX 4090 can't run everything in 4K ultra on native, you are forced in games to use upscaling and FG to gain reasonable framerates.

Same fab, with practically no arch changes, what were you expecting? Unless they'd come up with another 900series style efficiency improvement (back when they were stuck on 28n for 600/700/900 series) there was no way there'd be any real improvements. Any minor improvements likely down to D7 + whatever minor improvement the new FP32/int32 + fp32 shader tweak might occasionally bring..

Remember when UT2004, Doom 3 and FEAR completely shattered the kneecaps of that day fastest GPUs on, for the time, top resolutions? I remember. The whole “fastest GPU should get 60 at least at the highest mainstream available resolution” was never a thing that happened till the last few gens (and even then). This is just a return to normalcy.

An example of that that really sticks out (and wasn’t just devs coping for a shit port like GTA IV) was the whole Ubersampling situation in The Witcher 2. People with high end GPUs mindlessly enabled the option and went “what the hell, game runs poorly”. Yeah… yeah, it’s even written in the options that this is an extreme setting for future cards. Like, you are rendering with, what was it, 4x SSAA? Yeah, of course it will run poorly. Current day 4K on Ultra with RT bells and whistles is no different.Games were made with scalability in mind. You have a mid range GPU, you'll play with medium settings at best. You have a high end gpu, you might get away with high. Ultra was for gpus that weren't even released yet. Which is exactly how it should be.

Igor complained in german language that some people, etc. publish beforehand technical specs about graphic cards

Now enable 4xMSAA and go to 1600x1200, which was the 4K of the time. Surprise - performance drops off a cliff. If we compare to today, 1280x1024 is analogous to, like, 1440p. And no AA whatsoever analogous to running medium-high. Modern cards, even mainstream ones, are fully capable of doing that now without issue.

A new gen based on the same architecture and fab node is the definition of laziness, it's the same kind of stagnation Intel pulled for years. They priced the 5080 the same as 4080S. It is 8% better and has MFG. Still not much for long 2,5 years of development.

I disagree, I'd rather have the hardware be underutilized for a year or two until the software catches up, than the hardware not being enough, forced to open my wallet upgrading again. That is not insane, the software just can do things that hardware cannot support at the moment. Just do not use every single option the software can do and max all settings out.
I think this situation is better than software lagging behind and chips being underutilised.

Well, I think it is more logical to presume that the basic computing units of a new generation product after 2,5 years will be improved and redesigned and you will not be able to judge the performance just from numbers of these units or clocks alone. What did you expect, do people still refuse to accept that shader count and clocks are very reliable measures of performance ?
