Ryzen Owners Zen Garden

so maybe bz's info about 2033FCLK for 3000UCLK was outdated (and whoever else was claiming in here that certain hidden Fabric-UCLK ratios exist and should be followed)? Or it's just AIDA being AIDA and ycruncher will reveal that 2033 does perform better. Who knows. Seems to be too big a difference to be AIDA shenanigans.

Anyway, it appears that higher IF might still be better, not intentionally reducing FCLK to hit some arbitrary number. almost 5GB/s of read and copy out of just the higher FCLK, and safemode takes care of the rest

Anyone used PTM7950 on 7000 series CPU ? Because of the weird IHS shape I am not sure what to do, should I cut the pad to fit just the center portion or to fit all those little corners as well ? I know this is meant to become more liquid as it heats up I wonder if it will start to leak away between those gaps. I guess I could just try to cut away where those gaps are after I apply it but I wonder if it's even necessary.
I don't know if it will leak or not but I got an idea, it involves spending on one of those cpu shileds (like thermalright or thermal grizzly ones) that would stop any leaks as those almost fit zero tolerance.

I can tell you right this moment that the Thermalright contact frame is not nearly "zero tolerance" lol. The Thermal Grizzly one might be a bit better since it also has a foam gasket for protection from LM.

That said, I'm pretty sure PTM7950 isn't electrically conductive. And in any case, from all the laptop PTM7950 repasting reddit posts and pictures, it just spreads like a normal paste over time. So it's not like it becomes like water, runs everywhere like LM and wreaks havoc on SMDs.

I was thinking of cleaning up the LM on the 6900HS/6700S in my G14 2022 and replacing it with PTM7950, but now that Kryosheet is a thing I might just do that instead.

I bought the TG foam gasket, but it's so fiddly that I gave up on using it.

I got a foam gasket to go with my Kryosheet, ditched the gasket and just used the sheet.

25 bucks aud for tim with non existent maintenance is worthy of my $ and especially after watching the reviews on it being almost as good as the best liquid metals but generally better than all other pastes, it's a no brainer for me.

Well, despite me promising the 7900 XTX was the last upgrade I have now swapped my 7700X with a 7800X3D. My goodness this chip is cool and efficient, i'm blown away by the performance so far.

yeah 7800x3d is straight up nuts for gaming. i'm hoping the 8800x3d or 9900x3d (w.e it ends up being called) ends up impressing us even more. the legendary Jim Keller seems to think it will -last I read. :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout:

I made the exact same swap (I still have the 7700X on my shelf, though), and had the same reaction. Sure, it runs at slightly lower clocks, but 80-90 W in full load anno 2024? Oh man... o_O

Interesting, interesting.. seems that as I haven't installed the chipset drivers on my 2nd rig (Crosshair VII & R5 3600), there's no latency problems.

Also seems that there's a new BIOS version for my main setup's board, just need to write all the settings down before I update it.

Does anybody here own a 5700X3D? If so, how does it do with cooling compared to higher end parts?

only have experience with 5600x3d, but i know for sure the lower clocks on the 5700x3d will give it colder temps than 5800x3d.

why are you asking this though you have a 7800x3d? :D

From the testing I've read, 5700X3D temps are just commensurate with a ~400MHz decrease in Fmax. So, a fair bit cooler, but still buried under Vcache so don't expect 5600G or 5700X-level magic, although I think it is also a slightly higher PPT part in practice - ie. not the lowest possible 76W PPT for 65W parts (5600X, 5700X, 5600G).

I'm asking for my brother. :) He currently runs a R5 5500 under a Wraith Stealth, and I'm wondering if that cooler would be enough for a 5700X3D, considering that it doesn't come with one.

So he can forget about not having to buy a cooler, then. Thanks. :)

Okay, wraith stealth is taking it too far :D

I am running the 5800X3D just fine under a AXP120-X67 right now. It is limited to 88/60/90 for obvious power supply reasons, but in the 80-90W region it does just fine. I reckon 5700X3D will be more than fine if you can get to a Black Ridge level of cooling.

presumably it cools exactly like a 5800X3D at any given PPT. It's the same silicon, running the same power. The clocks are irrelevant because the heat comes solely from the power being pumped through the chip.

I believe both the 5800X3D and 5700X3D share the exact same 142W PPT from their "105W" TDPs, so they will be cooled identically, or at least within margin of error.

For a non-X3D chip, I would say there's a chance that the faster CPU's boost clocks reach higher points on the freq/voltage curve, resulting in higher hotspot temperatures for 1/2-threaded low loads at max boost clock, but the X3D chips have a strict voltage ceiling, so I doubt there's much difference between the 5700X3D and 5800X3D, if any.

I had a 5800X3D running in my HTPC with a Thermalright SI-100 for a while, where noise levels mattered a great deal in a relatively restrictive case. I ended up just setting a 75C throttle point which stopped the CPU from reaching its fastest single-core clocks, without lowering the PPT. When the heat is spread out over an all-core workload, 142W PPT isn't that hard to keep cool.

Doing some testing I found that single sample of 5800X3D basically hit diminishing returns at about 110W PPT, so if cooling is limited, you're still getting >95% of the performance from a 5800X3D at PPT=110, TDC=75, EDC=115

wraith stealth i would say no, sure you can find him a really cheap 20-30 quid tower fan like even the old cooler master ones would be way better. not sure if those are still around anymore. have pity on his soul and help him get a thermalright one for 30-40 quid :D

With an A.Freezer III: Processor vs Package - monitoring by MBoard in BIOS fans (CPU) settings = edit: anyway, stressed the CPU (CPU-Z) reaches only -75°c, but can handle 89 !! How's that interpretable ?

And CPU-Z :

654/6856 (idk who)

ME:
Extreme in CPU-Z option (validate menu):

And the same day they released one without this new gen ryzen thingie "upgrade" ;p Thanks i use it !:

I am pretty much running with no thermal paste right now

This guy forgot to order more.. went ahead and moved back to air cooling and found I had a smidge of SYY-157, and about the same of AS5. I was able to smear it around enough, but it was pretty wet from the end of the AS5 lol. seems ok for now, Amazon will be dropping off my new stuff on Monday. Temps are still pretty good though!

Wait, you don't use spit? ;)

How do i force the CPU to heat ?.. which tool can get my CPU the hottest possible ?

Linpack, probably

Prime95 makes no sense on Ryzens without access to PBO (ie. for increased power limits)

Help me to set it up please, at default settings it reaches 52°c !!

SuperPI, nand Prime95 was that i tested jusr earlier, and also linpack.

I didn't know this, thanks.

What do you mean 520C? I didn't see anything in your screenshots
