I've spent a little bit of time going though the "lore" or whatever it is that tells the backstory for the universe and a couple of short stories that are on the site. If you really want to get immersed in the universe as a pilot I recommend reading as much of the fiction on the site that you can.

I'll be completing the Squadron 42 campaign before I jump into the persistent universe just because I adore the military campaign/mission set (ala. Freespace) that it provides.

On the subject of joysticks, I'll be hunting around for a used X-65 for a decent price over the next year before the game comes out, just because it looks sweet..

http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x65f.html

Thanks for tip will read up on stuff.

Also dang that looks like a nice joystick.

Also just noticed it said Min video card is 5850? does that mean I can't play with 4850 x2? because they are DX 10.1, even though they have almost same performance.

I believe they are aiming for dx11 and above along with 64 bit and other high end requirements. I'm not sure if DX10 cards and lower will be supported, however, it does say on the FAQ that the requirements are subject to change.

Keep in mind, this game is not due to be released for quite some time, and in my opinion, (and many others) a requirement for some of the latest technology will only help this game.

I believe, that DX11 will be a system requirement come release, if not higher by then. Your internet connection, Delta, is probably going to give you some grief as well, if it's not upgraded by then. As with most online games, your network latency can have a huge impact in "playability".

Many of us have been discussing different controller options. 'Rocker has a new 52 on the way, I'm trying really hard to save for a 65 pro (and justify it). There are tons of forums posts here, and over at SC, discussing the various HOTAS and other hardware: feel free to peruse to your hearts content. Best I can tell, I was losing ground the last time I tried: there were more posts about the topic when I got to a stopping point, than when I began :) Many are looking at Oculus rift, I just got my third monitor in to support Eyefinity.
There's a lot of money involved in this game, and a lot of hype as well. We're hoping it stands the test, but based on everything we're seeing, I don't think we'll be disappointed :)

Ya for me the internet will be the worst part, hardware wise It won't be a issue come release, just hoping I can try it on my current 5 year old hardware. As I'm just starting my New job technically my first official job come 2015 money won't be a problem...

I will have to look in to Hardware(Joysticks), what are some good flight sim brands around Fanatec quailty? as of right now I am saving for a Full Fanatec Clubsport setup for when pCars comes out.

EDIT: I wanted to post this link I found in the SC Forums on how to get DX10.1 Cards to work.

currently have 2414MB left at 121 KB/s 6Hours left. most likely will take 12 or more...

Also if you where to buy say 5,000UEC for $5 would that $5 go towards the funding also? instead of the "Shut up and take my money" option thats also $5?

Yes. You don't really get anything much for 5,000 UEC but it's something.

@Spiff, Yeah I'm doing the same. :toast:

Just did some test, with 1080p Low I got 26Min 31 AVG 39Max FPS with 2x 4850's in 1x1 optimize mode. with just one 4850 I got 13-20fps.
Temp CPU Max 56c AVG 50c, GPU1 74c gpu2 70c

I have to say the game looks really good even on Low... And I already want to get the Orgin 300 now...

Just wandering right now can anyone fly or just devs? as I saw some people on youtube flying.

And Erocker did you use the CRYENGINE Free SDK to mod?

I'm excited for the visuals this game might have. I will have to upgrade my gpu specifically for this game.

The people flying are using various programs, including CryEngine editor to mod the assets and fly. Official flying doesn't happen until the dogfighting module in late December.

Yeah I used the Free SDK. :)

Just sent this to the Madcatz support email :D Figured it was worth a shot in the dark :D

Hey.

I'm visiting the Star Citizen forums more and more as this game is generating interest. And one of the things I have noticed is none of the current UK PC stores currently have the X65-f out on display. And in use in a format that allows people to actually put their minds at ease in regards to the force sensing technology. This problem is evident in the UK and in the USA.

I am an x65-f user and I've written multiple posts regarding the device and just how good it is. I've tried to get onto threads early and dispel the myth that the Warthog is better. However I think you guys need to do a review on the actual setting up of the product for the end user. Not just the un-boxing video. I would make a video myself but I'm ugly and speak with a thick northern accent! So there is no chance of the Americans understanding me!

Can you please make this video or get onto the American division to make it.

It needs to include.

How the stick works with the software.
How you start to work out your own settings for getting the most from the stick.
And how the stick works with a real game element.

Personally I set the stick up in the following manner.

I set a force setting for maximum deflection, that is comfortable, Easy to attain, and will not cause me stress to hold for a long period.

I then set a dead zone, so I can push all of the buttons without moving the plane in game, And I can grip the stick without moving my plane.

I finally set a curve so the stick operates with a larger fine control zone.

ATM I think you are loosing sales to misinterpretations peddled by the simming community regarding this device, and it is a shame because you are the only company with a device in the £100-£150 bracket with a solid product. And the X65-f in the £250 bracket should be providing stiff competition to Thrustmaster.

With the video you at least have 1 tool to try disperse this bad press from the simming elite. With a little more involvement you should perhaps also consider supplying devices to a number of non simming review sites. American sites like Techpowerup would provide a great springboard to raise awareness of this products very clever features. Even perhaps going so far as to arrange a give away of some of your products to raise awareness even further. I know Techpowerup do a facebook giveaway every now and again with a lot of success.

I think you should also consider a 6 degrees of freedom video. The X65-f is capable of 6Dof out of the box. Using the rotaries to control left/right slew, And Up/down transitions. Whilst been able to operate 2 independent engines. The X65-f can also do this with analogue control. The Warthog cannot compete here and I fear your missing out on a vital marketing campaign.

Please forward this to the people who should be made aware.

All the best

Blake A Nesbitt.

I have a second beta key for someone, and I thought I'd put it here as being the most likely place to find someone who might enjoy the game for a while. It looks like you may need to buy your way to higher level ships (haven't even downloaded it yet, doing it right now), but the beta is free. The first ClubHouse member that wants it via open post or PM gets it. Check it out :)

Retaliator and Gladiator are nice ships, but if I want one I'll work for one in game.

There's a big hangar patch getting released today. The Avenger ship will be in it. They're also releasing the Hornet variants today, I think I'm going to melt down my current Hornet for one of the new ones.

Looks like they pulled the LTI off the bombers, at least for new backers.

Special sale doesn't mean reduced prices. I don't think they'll ever reduce the prices of the pledges.

So.. They were supposed to unveil the Hornet variants tonight, but that got scrapped. Then they said they were doing the Aurora variants. So far nothing yet, but they are there working apparently.

Got you added in Mathragh.

New Aurora LN commercial:

They also updated the Hangar. Here's some screenshots of a nicely reworked Freelancer, an Avenger and a fish tank:

I upgraded my Aurora to the Legionnaire model, figured for 10$ why not. My el-cheapo hanger doesnt look nearly as nice as yours though lol.

Edit: Debating on melting my aurora for an Avenger at this point. Hrmm choices, choices.

Edit2: How do I go about this? Do I just exchange it for store credit and then buy my new one?

Avenger is the better ship for sure. Yeah, you do exactly that as far as switching the ships.
