Of course. Maybe because it is? Overhyped from day 0, shit ton of money taken from people, and after what, 3 years?, there's nothing more than a lousy buggy demo showcasing few individual game parts. That's a fail.
Considering they needed to build up the dev teams from nothing getting this far in 3 years is ahead of where I would predict their progress. Games like this take 4-5 years to build, and they're looking to be closer to the 4 year mark than 5 years, which is pretty good going. The game demo they have now is actually fully integrated - ai, combat, shopping, refitting ships, missions, fps and space combat all in one environment is not what I would call individual parts.
Did some backers overhype the game? sure. Let's not use their overexcitement as a reason for why the game is a failure.
