I've been having a blast in the PTU. I managed to get pretty much the entire server after me. Once you reach "wanted level 5", a mission goes out to all other players to find you and kill you. Heh, it all started when I accidentally rammed my Constellation right into another Connie T-Bone style. He broke in half, I was damaged but made it to a repair station. The other Connie pilot was then whining that I killed him while he was testing with a dev. I gave him a "COME AT ME BRO" and the fun ensued.

I was fortunate to meet Chris Roberts and a lot of the development team at Santa Monica last evening. A lot of great people passionate about what they do. I'm looking forward to persistence being implemented in on of the next major alpha releases. (Not sure if it will be 2.3 or 2.4) Fun stuff!

Wow, now that sounds like fun. I need to try the PTU out. But have to download in non-peak hours as to not break my 20GB cap.

Plus, the freelancers are flyable now, yes?

Runs like shit. Still some bugs... like steping into my mustang and then poping into the middle of the ship like an artifact... well... i don't even know.

I have not played the game in probably 6 months. I dont know about missions, but you have been able to fly the ships for some time now.

Missions are in the 2.4 release, which is currently in the PTU for testing. I suspect it will be sent to live for everyone in the next week. You can complete missions, and earn alpha UEC - basically game currency that will get reset every so often. You can buy clothing, weapons and armor with aUEC at the moment, as well as pay for ship repairs. Both starfarer fuel tankers are in the game and flyable now - biggest ships to date which are basically flyable FPS levels.

When 2.4 is live and you do try it out be aware that you start in civilian clothing, and as you would expect it is not airtight. So get changed into a spacesuit before going through an airlock.

The big deal with 2.4 is the fact that everything state wise is server side now - including ship loadouts. That means no more people changing xml files on their local machine to give their ship insane capabilities and too many oversized weapons.

Yeah, works fine for 30 fps in the online universe. Lots of random bugs though.

I think they're just struggling to deliver everything and finding out these "little" extras take more work. I don't feel the vaporware vibe yet tbh. They have a pretty good subframe...they are still releasing dev blogs and updates which kinda goes against the definition of vaporware...

It's certainly not vaporware. It's just that the game has fallen horribly below expectations especially considering the amount of money it has taken in.

People fail to realize that making a game takes time. Even for already established game studios it takes them 5-6 years.
It doesn't matter how much money you throw at it; it still takes time. How long was Fallout 4 in development?

Of course. Maybe because it is? Overhyped from day 0, shit ton of money taken from people, and after what, 3 years?, there's nothing more than a lousy buggy demo showcasing few individual game parts. That's a fail.

The difference between star citizen and other games is that star citizen was advertised from before development really started. Other game developers don't advertise until much later on in the development cycle.
