Browser? Add-ons? OS?
Currently? Firefox, standard security add-ons, Windows 7.

I think what you are seeing is the lazy loading in action. It will not load images until you scroll closer to them.
Is this what everyone is talking about? I hardly notice..

You can disable the image lazy loading features in your user settings.
I'm not finding this setting. What page is it on? Am curious what it's set to.

You must be a slow scroller :D otherwise you'd probably had noticed
No, I remember W1zzard talking about it some time ago and presumed that was what I was experiencing. I do take my time scrolling through threads on occasion..

I've never heard of that setting either.
It's something relatively new, brought by one of XenForo's updates some months ago.

I did. Not noticing a difference. Pages load smooth and easy. Images do snap-in as the page scrolls, but it's been that way for a while. It's all good here.
So it's on NO then, I have set this to YES and images are loading much faster.... Will then depend on how fast your internet connection is.

It was on nothing, which likely means it was defaulting to the system default which would be "No" for enabled. I set it for "No" just because I could and because I like the feature. I prefer there not be a long pause while threads with lots of images load, which I frequently visit.

Will then depend on how fast your internet connection is.
I have fast internet, that is not an issue at this home.

That's why I have set it to YES, loading a page full with images will take now maybe 3 seconds. With NO it will load slower....

Thanks for mentioning this. I had it set to NO for some reason and photos weren't loading at all really. Now I'm back to my old usual slow loading times, but it's better than nothing.

I think there might be a misunderstanding of how this site feature works.

When that setting is set to "No", it means the feature is Enabled and thread pages only load images as you navigate near them on the page.

When that setting it set to "Yes", it means the feature is Disabled and an entire page with all of the images contained therein will load all at once as you open/navigate to the page. For thread pages that have a lot of high res images, that can take a hot moment, even on a fast connection.

@Liquid Cool and @W1zzard , I have this same issue from time to time.

It's odd though; I don't think this has ever happened in the photography thread ever? However, some of the hardware threads and gaming threads it will happen. Not all the time though.

Are you running your system on wireless @Liquid Cool ?

My system upstairs is, and I have kind of figured it was possibly due to that. My crunching systems are hard wired and I haven't really noticed this issue with them.

Are you running your system on wireless @Liquid Cool ?

Yes I am and I already thought about that....What concerned me though Stinger is that I've been running wirelessly for 17 years(remember the old DGL-4300's?) and this is the first time I've run into this problem. As mentioned....there never was an issue until I got home from the hospital. Nothing changed on my end and I'm not having a single issue with any other site. If I was...I'd be digging into my network until I figured out the problem, but as far as I can tell everything is running with flawless precision.

I'm actually fine to just let it go, I'm patient and I'm really in no rush. The only reason I mentioned it is because I thought multiple people might be having the same issue and perhaps someone should speak up.

If it's just me...then I'm fine with it. Nice to talk to you btw...it's been awhile.

Take care...

I think what you are seeing is the lazy loading in action. It will not load images until you scroll closer to them. This helps reduce page load time, makes the page responsive faster, which helps with Google ranking. You can disable the image lazy loading features in your user settings. Does that give the expected result?
Mines set to yes, but still behaves that way

On win 11, so whatever the new edge is

I get 1.8-4.3MB/s (it's quite erratic) on that, but my internet can do 8MB/s

How's your speed on that?

You're referring to download speed? It's very slow, it fluctuates between 60 to 90 KB/sec.

1g.bin download speed.jpg

My internet speed from Cox is advertised at "up to" 50mb/10mb. Checking with Google(and Ookla), it seems inline with the advertised speed. I happen to also live within a few blocks of one of their corporate headquarters. A couple of years ago, they had to lay a fresh cable from Cox to the junction box up the street, and then from that junction box to our neighbor and from there to our smaller junction box that feeds six houses. While they were at it, I had them lay a fresh cable from the junction box to our house. So...we have very fresh cable in the ground all the way from Cox. We never get dropped connections, runs beautifully.

Current Speed Test - October 6, 2021.jpg

What do you think, it's my connection speed?

This page at Anandtech loaded instantaneously for me, by the time I could click on the link and scroll to the bottom it was completely loaded.

Anandtech Member Case Gallery! - Page 25

or here at eVGA...same.

EVGA wallpapers + avatars - Page 14

If I download a game from Steam and then use the phone(Ooma VoiP), start a movie on Amazon Prime and have 10 youtube videos streaming on my tablet and then stream a movie from hulu on my desktop at the same time it doesn't alter the speed. It's been between 6 and 8 mb/ sec download speed for as many years as I can remember. Always very steady.

Oblivion download speed.jpg

Are you guys telling me you think my connection is slow? It doesn't seem like it to me. I can upgrade my network, but I don't really want to mess with something that works perfectly.

You know...I had to actually sit and remember why I thought it was ublock origin that could be interfering with the images loading on Techpowerup. Initially, I couldn't remember where I picked that idea up from. Although...after sitting and thinking about it for awhile. I remember there being a small banner on the top of my screen when I got home from the hospital mentioning something about pictures being slow to load because of "privacy blockers" or something like that?

Was this issue ever resolved and/or could my issue be stemming from the source of that problem? Because I'm also getting hesitations when I go to edit a post? Never had this issue before...

delays on editing my post.jpg

and when I go to upload a photo to the server...more waiting. Never had to wait before. Now, it's up to a 30 second wait.

uploading is slow too....jpg

I didn't mean to turn this into "let's analyze Liquid Cool's network problems"...I feel like I'm wasting everyone's time here.

For this...I apologize. :).

When I clicked on the smily face to add it to my post...you guessed it...5 second wait time for the screen full of emojis to pull up.

This seems extremely slow and is probably the reason for your issues.

Our servers are in NYC, at a top notch hosting company, so you should be getting excellent speeds.

Just to clarify, I'm not thinking that your internet connection is problematic. What I suspect is that somewhere along the path between you and our servers there's an issue. Will check with our hosting company if they have any ideas.

something about pictures being slow to load because of "privacy blockers" or something like that?

Was this issue ever resolved
This has been resolved for weeks, they fixed their filters

I actually didn't want to turn this into "let's analyze Liquid Cool's network problems"...I feel like I'm wasting everyone's time.
Your feedback is much appreciated, because it alerts me to a situation that many others will not report and might just stop visiting the site.

You know...I had been sitting here editing my original post above for the last half hour and each time I hit save neither of your responses popped up, nor was I given notice of someone responding to the thread.

missing posts.jpg

It wasn't until I opened TPU in Microsoft Edge did I know that you both had responded to my earlier post. I then came back to my main browser(Vanilla Firefox) and had to click refresh three times before both of your posts finally popped up.

I was adding a congratulations to Mussels on 17 years....40 minutes after he had already responded to my post without me knowing it.

Ok...I'm done being a guinea pig for the day.

I just get out...and they p-u-u-l-l-l me back in! :).

It's a little slower actually. Oscillating between 60 to 80 KB/sec.

guinea pig - part deux.jpg

From my perspective...about a 20% trim on speed from earlier results.

I'll actually be checking in all day if you need me to run any more tests.

My schedule is completely free. I say this because at this speed...there isn't much TPU to come back to.

Where did Techpowerup go....jpg

After the change....the front page loading time just went to "slow as molasses". I was around in the 2400 baud days...and I'm having flashbacks.

Best,

Liquid Cool

P.S. After checking a third time...the site dipped down to unusable. 0 to 5 KB /sec and is now back to the standard 60 to 80 KB /sec. It's the same speed in four different browsers with Edge being the fastest. 80 to 100 KB /sec.

Scotty...we need MORE power.jpg
