Just noticed that since the BIOS mod to enable REBAR, my 3090 seems to be acting like its got a 300W power limit, not the regular 350W?
Bios says Board power limit Target: 350.0 W Limit: 371.0 W - but i'm getting power limit issues at just 300W...
edit: Changed to the KFA2 3090 BIOS with a 390W power limit, now i can see peaks of 350-370W at stupid clock settings

I was hitting the power limit when mining just from the VRAM chewing it all up, with the GPU above 1500MHz which just... what? BIOS flash fixed.

So with the other BIOS (which i havent confirmed REBAR works yet) i see 303W (a whole 3W more!) but the core runs at 1605Mhz instead of 1500MHz with dips down to like 1200, at the same voltage. Weird.

well you can flash the Kingpin XOC BIOS to bypass thermal and power limit , the sandwich WB can handle 500W 3090 just fine no doubt.

I wish there was a better BIOS i could put on my 3080Ti, but I dont think there is. I also think im limitted by the 2 8 pins.

The highest TDP BIOS for 3080Ti with 2 x 8 pins is the Zotac AMP one with 385W Max, so you can extract a little bit more clocks outta your 3080 Ti if you so wish, or does your 3080Ti already come with 385W TDP?

That's the card I have, but it bounces off power limit even at +10% (max) and it dont see if get much over 350w, but then again I also havent seen waht it can pull when at a voltage above 0.95v for extended period of time so that maybe why the power isnt as high as it could be. I thought it might also be due to the card being in a PCIe 3.0 slot, since I only see it pull 40-50w from the slot when it could be 75w right?

Yeah when you remove the undervolt and let the card boost as high as it can, it will bounce off the max TDP all the time (and will probably pull 75W off the PCIe slot too)

Seems to be the best 2 plug i can find, and it has matching outputs so no missing one DP port or anything

Nah my Asus TUF also has 2x8 power plug and it works just fine with the Kingpin XOC BIOS since there is no power limit on any of the 8pin power.

I think you are hitting the maximum current allowable on the memory since your 3090 only has 3 phases VRM for the memory (200W on the memory is almost 50A going through each VRM, GDDR6X voltage is 1.35V)

Perhaps, but the wattage on that BIOS is hoooge anyway, 390W is enough for me
i'm diagnosing some black screen issues where on a reboot i'd have no display, but the system was working (windows logon sounds, etc)

It's either:
1. PCI-E riser
2. undervolted SoC
3. Curve undervolted CPU

trying putting 2. and 3. closer to stock, and locking riser to 3.0

Ah. well.


It could also be that my ARGB extension leads were burning.

Does anyone know if temperature of RAM, or hot spot effects how the card clocks? I noticed that my card will throttle even if its not at the power limit, but memory temperature is basically right at the temp limit. Core temperature is about 20c away from the limit.

yeah, they have limits around the VRAM temp for sure - i know at 110C the fans ramp to 100% no matter what, as an example

Be interesting what getting this waterblock on the card will do. Maybe itll stop the throttling i see even if core temp and power isnt at their limits.

You can use the portable version of HWinfo, it will be started along with Afterburner when windows start.

With stock PSU cables mines been rock solid again

slowly learning how to use the watercooling stuff like extenders and right angle fittings to tweak the aesthetics
