The RX 6000 series Owners' Club

I just leave this here.

22.5.2 and up all have issues
and on Radeon subreddit you often have people report blackscreens and being told to go back 22.5.1 which always solves the issue for them.

Hope AMD is not gonna decide to give up getting dx11 and opengl improvements stable, but i would like a stable driver over performance uplift that only makes my gpu trip over it's own feet.
downclocking gpu does not resolve blackscreens for me.
The only thing that may help that if not really tested yet is not using 2e screen it seems dual screen setup with differences in refresh rates having a listed issue for 22.10.1
Still zero issues of the sort on my side

Just updated to the latest 2days ago when I came back from holidays
2 screen 1 1080p60 1 1620p75
No downclock or undervolting

MY webcam for WhatsApp is a oldie 720p max tho

Get a logitech brio get same headaches as me then switch to signal and be surprised you dont blackscreen anymore :)
Shame you do not life anywhere near me else be fun to reproduce my theory with another rig and my webcam :)

Just replaced my evga 970(from a couple of century’s gone by) with a power color red dragon rx 6800 I had no idea what I had been missing. It is no slouch. Will be a while before it gets replaced. Had a xfx 5600xt and sold it just as crypto was hitting it’s stride big mistake and had to use my backup card for a while. Very happy with the purchase. When I purchased the 5600xt it was when rdna first come out and there were driver issues to say the least, but amd took care of the problems. Haven’t had the 6800 that long but it seems to be very stable.

The RX 6800 is a really great card I had one the AMD reference card really nice but once you tried the RX 6800 XT you won't go back

I've had a PowerColor RX 6800 XT for a few months now, and it's a great card. I upgraded from an RX 5700 XT. Plenty of power (though even heavily modded Skyrim will bring it to its knees). I love being able to have Blender's Cycles viewport in almost real-time (and that's without hardware raytracing support, which will be added for AMD cards in Blender 3.5).

I've tuned mine for quiet operation, and I'm actually amazed at how much more efficient it is than the 5700 XT. It draws only about 40-60W more for double the performance. I limit mine to 240W.

AMD's Windows drivers still kind of suck (RuneScape in particular is a terrible experience on AMD cards in Windows; it's great on Linux).

Of course, now you can get a 6900 XT for the same price I paid for my 6800 XT (about $680 before tax). Oh well...

Hi!
I have a PowerColor Radeon RX 6900 XT Red Devil (AXRX 6900XT 16GBD6-3DHE/OC) converted to water cooling in my PC.
Does anyone know where I can find a description of which thermal pads (thickness, dimensions, position) I need if I want to reinstall the original air cooler.
Preferably with pictures if there is such a thing.
Thank you for your help!
Greetings from Vienna!

Fully stable until today when i was alt tabbed and insta blackscreened, and then for some reason found out i had a video playing constantly in my browser, so i went back again to 22.5.1 oh well 22.10.2 may come out tomorrow after tomorrow since a lot of new games launch usually new driver launch as well.

Why not use the ones that come with the card? The cost of good thermal pads is not high either. Usually the pads are between .5 to 1 mm in thickness on the front. They can be as much as 2mm on the back. If you get something like this you can measure what you need..

The package in the waterblock should also give you all you need. Even Byiski give you everything you need.

I'm planning to sell my 6800xt since I'm using a 3080 now.

Good card but I myself just hated AMDs drivers except pro ones

What is the advantages of the pro drivers

Blackscreens and driver crashes ?

What is the advantages of the pro drivers
They supose to be more stable, but if had my PC freeze on radeon pro Q3 driver however it was more stable then all the optional drivers combined.

Driver crashes. Hell, I can be gaming for hours and it's fine but sometimes just watching a youtube video and it crashes. I replicated it on a 6600 and a 6800xt.

Some drivers work great and others don't. So I had to roll back drivers. Latest were OK for me.

With nvidia I don't face as many issues. I do with some titles where a restart of the game works fine but yeah.

I am hoping next amd gpus will come with even better driver development because they are much further now than before.

it's kinda funny (and sad at the same time) that user experience vary with the same drivers ... the worse unstables drivers i ever had since i started build my own PC (roughly 24yrs ago, K6 2 and Tnt 1 ) were with Nvidia, i constantly had to roll back at least 3 month each time they released a new driver (black screen, freezes, BSOD, et caetera) ... AMD/ATI? zilch, nada, nope, not a single roll back or sever issue from a Rage Pro LT till todays RX 6700 XT

not even watchin youtube video on the main rig or playing a game ... i had a little hiccup launching Doom Eternal first time, were the game would say there was not physical graphic card if trying to run Vulkan first but that was the games fault and not drivers fault (since resinstalling the game worked instantly)

ofc every rig have a lot of variable (mainly hardware but also users) thus issues can hapen with some, where there is none for others... and's polarizing even among my friends and i, although the majority are fine, like me, with AMD/ATI for years, while some others had so much issues that they switched to Nvidia for that reason (whereas my only Nvidia Switches, GTX 460, then GTX 770, then GTX 980, then GTX 1070 were because of prices, supply and sometime giveaway win but never driver issues  )

next i'm going to upgrade my webcam ... 139chf Logitech Brio is not a biggie, since it's the last issue i can't reproduce (because of lack of hardware not because of lack of crashe  ) and that bog basic 720p, also from Logitech, webcam is starting to show her age (iirc she's more than 12 yrs old  )

Hell, I can be gaming for hours and it's fine but sometimes just watching a youtube video and it crashes.
if it was the opposite i would understand  (crashing constantly while gaming and being able to watch youtube just fine )

Well every system is unique even with the same parts because there are always variables and issues can be hard or software.

The videoplayback in browsers a lot of people can have problems depending on the browser, I had a black screen once with my LG monitor turning it off while a game was running because I needed to do something else for 5mins usually I would have had it on but not with these electricity prices.

I wouldn't see anything in the event log for application or system so yeah that might just be my monitor that needed a signal reboot from the source everything else works fine no hiccups, freezes or weird behavior on my card and I am running like a week or max 2 old Windows 11 Pro 22H2 installation here.

For browsers I am using Brave & Firefox never had a videoplayback issue only issue is files not supported in the browser but that's not a driver problem :D

I'm planning to sell my 6800xt since I'm using a 3080 now.

Why not a Intel ARC A750/770? The prices seems fine and in 5 years or so it might be a card that will be remembered as Intel's first try no one really wanted and but still wanted but didn't buy or they get rare as heck and goes up in price and they support avc1 which is nice.

If I had the money just to burn I don't because of the war in Ukraine and inflation I would love to have the Intel ARC A770 just as a collection item like my Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Nitro+ Special Edition.

hilariously i use Opera GX and never had any issues (or with any Chromium webkit based browser) aside file not supported too  but i had it with Nvidia as with AMD/ATI (well duh... as you said, not a driver problem :D )

I've recently learned with my 6500 XT that the first thing for everybody with an AMD GPU to do is to disable hardware acceleration in the browser and video player apps.

When i get blackscreen my 2e screen freezes still displays an image mainscreen an LG ultrawide 3840x1600 @ 144hz bassicly blacksout it does not go to standby it just stays black until it recovers and if it does the game is still running as well, from my experience a gpu driver crash should cause the game to crash as well it does not, if just read some one that had 3 differen't gpu's and had same driver issues with each, if even heard stories of some one buying a 6950XT and having issues and returning it cos confirmed he's fears of bad drivers.

No crashes here, so far! The last crashes I had, was with a Navi10, because the GPU core clock frequency was too high, when OC'ing it. (RX 5600 XT)

Enjoying 0 rpm fan & >90w Total power consumption + >60C for hot spot temp ever, on my Asus TUF Gaming RX 6800 XT OC edition when playing Oblivion game of the year edition deluxe for the last month or so now with 22.7.1 working flawlessly.... The fps are maxed of course @1440/144hz monitor. I only have 3 mods active & none of them have to do with graphics. :)

I'm looking for the dimensions of the pads for installing the original air cooler!

measure the original one that came with the card after removing the air cooler? you did keep them, right? or were they in such a bad shape that it was not possible to do so?

... well i could disassemble my card and do it, but i don't really need to do so ...

when i water cooled my R9 290 i kept the pads between 2 sheet of cellophane in an airtight box :D (although i sold it with the block on and kept the reference blower cooler for collection purpose  )
aftermarket thermal pads usually come in bigger piece than needed that you cut to the right size
also about placement ... 1 pad adequately sized per vRAM chip and a strip over the phase MosFETs (2 location )
PowerColor-Radeon-RX-6900-XT-Red-Devil-Ultimate-Graphics-Card-Big-Navi-21-XTXH-GPU-_5.jpg

I still have mine stuck on the cooler not single one stuck to my gpu did not clean the thermal paste either yet probably should but im not planning on selling, keeping it as a spare just in case, i probably upgrade rx7000 series next year despite having driver issues

I wish I had picked them up!
When disassembling, the pads stuck so hard to the components that I destroyed them. :(
ok i see why ... hum ... let me see

if i find something relevant i edit (outside contacting powercolor on their website to ask it  )

one option would be the Thermal Grizzly Minus 8 Thermal Pads iirc 1mm for the vRAM and 1.5/2mm for the MosFET, they come in various form (strips and squares)

Oh OK I don't seem to have that problem even with 1207
I have AGESA Combo V2 PI 1.2.0.6b (UEFI-BIOS 2.20, from March) on my ASRock B550 PG Velocita. There's now a brand new BIOS for October! (2.30) But, I don't want to flash it now! I fear having to redo everything again, because of Secure Boot!

2.30 has 1.2.0.7, according to ASRock. And, I just wiped the Western Digital Black SN850 1 TB SSD and installed Windows 11 22H2 already on September 20!
