I am still around. Still do a lot of macro. Over the last 2 years I have developed my own macro diffuser system.
I can say if you want to learn heaps about lighting for macro then embark on that kind of a journey and you will surely learn heaps. I have grown and learned a great deal which has lead to a lot of improvement.

Thank you both kindly. I have been through a lot. And it is still not over. But I choose to at least try and participate in life even if some days it feels like living and dying all in one.

Here is my flickr.. Heaps of crazy macro stuff there https://www.flickr.com/photos/197602498@N04/

Everything in Australia wants to kill you, they are stealthy too and climb into your shoes and wait.

That is a fantastic idea. I will put the word out and see what I can find. Those teeth up close at 5:1 or greater would be something I want to see now. Thanks for the idea

I have recently made the switch to mirrorless, and despite the "cultural" shock going from Canon to Sony, I couldn't be happier.

Got a Sony a6400 with aluminum frame mount on it a couple years ago. Takes the best photos. Welcome to the club.

Most DLSR users will probably upgrade to mirrorless as their next camera. But I will only let go of my D750 if it breaks beyond repair. Thankfully there's no reason to upgrade the camera like most people upgrade their smartphones.

One thing I enjoy with mirror less is the live view feedback in the EVF whilst shooting and also chimping on the fly without the need to move.

Working in the field with Arachnoligists is a great deal of fun and a lot easier to get ID's on your finds. Over the weekend I created this image for a young man that is studying at university to become an Arachnologist and in doing so he has inspired me to create a lot more of these. Tricky part here is getting the light source at the right angle to not cause reflection on the glass by the diffusion panel.

She is a isopeda prolata - Huntsman spider. She has 1 leg that has been regenerated and most likely being a sub adult on the next moult it will be perfectly normal.

Just spent a few minutes on your links. Your photos and macro focus stacking technique is amazing. The detail is incredible. Do you have your setup and workflow described anywhere?

Thank you so much , The little M4/3 Oly Em1 mkii is amazing for macro. I get high fps 10+ with flash. Being what it is and not having the dynamic range or megapixels of my old 5d4 rig I have learned to be a lot more careful with my exposures but that is a good thing. You can see here in this video how minor the movement is while in burst mode moving to collect images. I do not go through much editing in post. Only a few routine things I do to tweak most of the time unless I make a big mistake in camera but hey I can admit easily I make mistakes. I am heading out soon and in the process of making a video on some small fungi i have found. I have decided to include workflow in this too, So when it is done I will also post that link... It will also show the lens hoods I have designed and 3d printed.. You most likely figured out I make a diffuser. Hope this helps you. Enjoy your day/night
