I suppose for my generation it was Orangina.

I think they are still sold in the 80s style bottles (They were discontinued but then bought back) in some parts of the world but they are with the crown caps used on beer bottles instead of the twist ones like the one pictured.

I've seen some in Morrisons not long ago.

It's not bad, although I've always found the name a bit funny (not necessarily in a negative sense).

I think they are found in this format at very very selected retailers. Otherwise most of them will have them in plastic bottle form like every other fizzy pop drink from your local corner shop.

Read that as "or Angina"

I'm currently looking at 'mains water purifier" solutions for our home. Any ideas which works best?

Funny how theyve also been closing down local refuse/recycling centers where you can roll up in your car and dump whatever old tat that you don't want into one of their skips.

This has happened in my area and all it's done is increase illegal fly tipping.

There are people patrolling around in vans that will pick up things like broken microwaves and anything that is made of metal because they can sell it as scrap either as is or once they break it down.
Now you have to make an appointment to get into the local dump.

And when people stop going they'll close them because they aren't being used.

Im not sure if this depends on the local council I have an Aunt that lives near St Albans and when she was moving house we just rolled up and offloaded without an appointment even though there was a big sign saying we had to.

I dont think the staff there get paid enough to care. So long as there is enough spaces for you to safely park up and unload, you can come and go as you please.
There have been a few times where she has been turned away because of no appointment but those are so few and far between and its pretty dumb idea anyway. For the average joe, Youre not going to be there longer than 15mins. What are the staff going to do? reserve you a parking space for the entire day?? Maybe if youre a man and van thats going to be there 30mins+ offloading stuff then maybe some argument can be made about making an appointment but otherwise its a waste of time.

Also off topic.

"...it is adorned with Impro Solutions logos, indicating that a real bank is not behind the bridge's new look.

Impro is an artist behind a range of confounding previous installations on the bridge, including a phone, a postbox, and a door."

It's still funny, though. :D

As if that's real, someones idea of a joke. How do they get to the back to fill it? chop the brick support away.

Manhole in the road. The arches are hollow.

That's where the exchange is for the telephone booth as well.

No one?

Also how are you guys cleaning/purifying your drinking/shower/bath water? Currently for our bathroom we have a crappy filter system running and for tap water a 10L boiler to eliminate most germs/bacteria/pathogens/etc and then when cooled off we have it running through a filter to eliminate most of that horrible chlorine/fluorine/chems/metals/etc.

Straight from the tap for me.

I live in Buenos Aires and next month we'll be back in the UK to visit family for the first time in five years. I'm looking forward to a pint in the pub, fish and chips, a full English breakfast, driving on the correct side of the road and walking down the street and going into shops where everyone is speaking English. Believe me, it's those little things you miss, even though I realise that the country has changed somewhat since my last visit.
On our shopping list for returning will be tea bags, HP Sauce, Worcester Sauce and whatever else we spot in Tesco, Lidle, Morrisons etc.
What would you miss?

Me too. Tap water undergoes multiple filtration rounds followed by ultraviolet disinfection and chlorination before reaching our taps. We are ranked joint 1st for drinking water quality and sanitation in Yale University's 2022 global environmental performance index, along with Finland, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Can you tell that I have a cousin who works in Hydrology? (not a water company). Whilst it may not be perfect it will do for me :D

Maybe up in Scotland/Midlands you guys are getting clean water... here in London or down south it's disgusting. Some years ago when moving to our new home we had ours tested and it came up with all sorts of impurities and contaminants.

Drinking water = kettle boiled.
Hot/cold water for showering = straight from the tap

Location: Somewhere in London.

A phone, a postbox, a door - artist Impro has made Berkshire's Sonning Bridge his canvas over the years.

And now his latest confounding creation has been revealed.

Same here. One can only develop immunity against common diseases by being mildly exposed to them. Purifying and sanitising everything harms your immune system.

Being a Hungarian living in the UK, driving on the correct side of the road, the simplicity of doing all official things on the HMRC website under 10 minutes, not paying a banking fee just for owning an account (yes, that's a common thing in Hungary), and the top notch hospitality in pubs and supermarkets are things I'd miss very much if I ever left the country.
