Haha same here, though witcher 3 + rivatuner framecap is smoother vs other games capped to 30, good frame pacing from the engine and RT perhaps?

I found on multiple systems, the game engine is good enough that it's smooth all the way down to 30 fps. It's well-optimized compared to a lot of others.

I had the same experience. The frame-times were very constant through the whole game. While in most games the framerate often hovers wildly between say 20 FPS and 40 FPS creating annoying stutter (varying frame-times), in Witcher 3 I had a very constant 30 FPS with very little variation. It definitely felt smoother than most other games at 30 FPS.

But still, 60 FPS is going to be far better :)

I am going to assume this game won't run on a GTX 970 / i5 with over 40 frame rates?

Obviously yeah, since im only on a 1600 x 900 and 1080p smart tv, i was hoping a 1060Ti/1070 would run it at max at 60fps :D

Depends on what settings and resolution you will be running it on, but it's definitely playable on 1080p

It does depend on your settings, but 40-45 sounds about reasonable, as long as you havwn't cranked all things up to maximum.

Played the game with my GTX 970 (+ FX6300) on High preset settings & HBAO+ (V-Sync ON and of course with Hairworks OFF) and I got 50-60 FPS. In a dense city area with a lot of NPC around it dips around 50 FPS but never below 50 FPS.
Raised the preset to Ultra & HBAO+ (V-Sync ON, Hairworks OFF) and I got 40-60 FPS, never dropped below 40 FPS even in a dense city area with a lot of NPC around Geralt.

What about the "GTX 970 3.5 GB VRAM limit"? Nope, in my experience, this game never use VRAM more than 2.4 GB @ 1080p.

As other members pointed out, the game engine is very well optimized.

out of nowhere the fire to continue my game+ lit and im having a lot of fun so far. i just home blood and wine don't require a stupid high lv to play it. heart of stones has a required lv of 63.......... well im almost 50 but thats still so high lol.
i been messing around with some builds and found a pretty beastly one.

i switched protective coating for acquired tolerance so i can use up to 3 concoctions at the time with 74mins on the timer each.

Updated the game to 1.21 and these are a couple of a new features that I find interesting :

New inventory UI, main category split into subcategories, easier to search and manage :
20160530211231_1.jpg

Armors and weapons preview, now you can preview how an armor piece or weapon will look like if you equip it INCLUDING any kind of armors or weapons that you still can't equip because higher level requirement :
20160530211306_1.jpg

Enemy upscaling option, now monster or human enemy will scale up to Geralt's level, gotta love those level 42 Drowners (btw, now it took 4 crossbow shots to kill them underwater :D) :
20160530211620_1.jpg

A minimap of a much bigger map :D, also custom markers :
20160530212240_1.jpg

I find the game loads much much faster now, very noticeable since I put my game on a standard harddisk. And I also feel the gameplay and animation much smoother.

Oh I forgot to add that the Enemy Upscaling level does not increased the XP gained, just upscaled level for a challenge if you're bored one hitting Drowners.

That's some nice features it should increase xp on lv upscale but what ever lol. Well I'm fired up and have my toon ready. My toon it's 70 but that's OK cuz blood and wine raises the level cap to 100.

I totally get that is just for fun but if ur 70 u don't get xp anyways but for ppl trying to get to 70 it would have been nice if upscale increased xp to.

I didn't understand the announcement in my GOG library last night. It said Blood and Wine would be available on May 30th. But then it had a countdown timer that said 15 hours.

I decided to just ignore both, knowing that it drops on May 31.

Started my first play through yesterday. Running a mixture of high and ultra on my rig. Get about 40fps ish at 1440p with my 780 oc profile at 1254. Really like the game actually. never really played the first 2 so i watched a plot summary on youtube of them.

I need a new gpu. 780 is starting to show its age. Id love to just get another one for cheap on ebay and dabble in some SLI again, but im scrapping for cash this summer as i take classes to be able to graduate next year.

Same here, got into it last week after (wrongly) snubbing it for a year. This game brings out the awe and wonder I felt when gaming as a child. I love it. I played through the first installment which I found tedious and boring. Never got around playing the 2nd. But man, I am really enjoying this one. It may very well be the first game in years I that I might do several playthroughs.

Cheers!

All I can say is I love it when people try such a fabulous game....don't even care why you snubbed it! :)

The part about bringing out that early gaming wonderment, when everything is new and you are drinking it in...that's exactly right, and how I feel whenever I play it!

I bought a 980 specifically for the TW3 just so I could experience it in all its glory.

I discovered the series on accident. I think I found TW1 at Walmart for $4.99 so I bought it. I enjoyed it and then the second one came out about 3 months later which I really enjoyed. But TW3 just blew me away - like you said like gaming as a child. Unfortunately, I just haven't been able to get into any other games. They all just seem lacking. I am so excited for Blood and Wine yet I almost don't wish it to come because I know it will be the last of Geralt. Sad days...

Have you guys noticed how incredibly hard the 1070 falls off compared to the 980ti (at least on some reviews)

And TW3 is currently the toughest game to chew on for GPU's, while we are in agreement it is well optimized. Seems like Pascal and the lack of shaders versus higher clocks doesn't scale all too well on every engine. Hmmmmm. Worth looking at.

Honestly, Maxwells may be very worth holding onto for awhile!

i plan on keeping my 980ti for a while. im to lazy to have to drain my loop and expend an extra $100+ for a water block. i run the game on max at 1440p and it seems pretty smooth.
