I upgrade the CPU cooler on my P4 rig since too loud (well if you use Prescott before you know how hot they were even at idle). Some naked shots. Found out this is the fastest 533MHz FSB Pentium 4 too, there aren't any 533MHz FSB higher clocked than 3.06GHz AFAIK. Which means it have the highest x23 multiplier which would be good for one thing...

Look how big the cooler is, still idles at 50C though but load around 60C so its good.

newcooler.jpg

I looked for its PLL and download software CPU overclocking tool called SetFSB which I used it before and I still remember till this day, despite its being Intel board means BIOS locked for overclocking, at least the AGP/PCI speed is locked at 66MHz/33MHz respectively. I thought at most it will do 100-200MHz overclock but oooh no I'm so wrong on that one. Yeah it can run at 3.6GHz with no problem at all, in fact I tried it later it stable at 3.8GHz too, getting 10500 3DMark in the process (stock was about ~9000). Truth be told it can run 4GHz, but the ValueRAM means it will spits PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD when doing anything intensive. Imagine bone stock Intel board with stock volts can do 1GHz overclock. But I won't run it overclock, stock 3GHz is more than enough for the games I run, still its fun seeing this can clock that high. It feels so nostalgic overclocking till it heats up the room

Why not a Cedar Mill? From what I found (assuming your board is the D865GSA), it supports them with a BIOS update.

Could be that as well, but with so restricted system I might never know.

It's a Pentium4, that can not be helped. It's the way the tech at the time functioned.

THAT is a nice heatsink for such a CPU! Well chosen!
Yep tech at that time don't have idle mode and CPU runs at full speed all the time. Yep its whisper quiet now despite the fan runs at 100%

I'm aiming for that as well, dunno if I should opt for Pentium D or the 4 is enough. This is early dual core era where both CPU die need to communicate through northbridge, and very early 2000 game didn't require multi core anyway perhaps 4 is more than enough.

For AGP stuff, I consider Cedar Mill P4s to be the best to use if the board supports it.
They're as cool as Conroe chips in that regard, and have the same features as a Prescott, so best of both worlds.
I'd keep Preslers for at least a 945/965/975 chipsetted board.

I wouldn't worried about that, that is Pentium 4 nostalgia PC so I kept it as is (I can get Pentium D 925 for something like 2 dollar, we'll see whether I will buy that one or not :palready updated the BIOS and all so its ready for it), my 'dream retro PC' is another rig, this one, Athlon 64 3000+ s939 Venice, Radeon X800 GTO. Its being neglected and full of dust. I will do cleanup next week if I'm not busy, some fan rattling I need to rectify that. Just fired it up to play some games. I forgot how much faster Athlon 64 as compared to Pentium 4

As many of you know, I recently purchased a Nintendo Super Famicom and did some retrobrighting to it's yellowed parts, with solid results.
SNES-SuperFamicomSystem-Yellowed.jpgSuperFamicom05.jpg

However, I have discovered something really cool!
SFC-ShellClear01.jpgSFC-ShellClear02.jpg
On the way and I'll post an update after it arrives and it get's installed.

Am still glad I retrobrighted the controller ports as they are reused for installation.

I missed this yesterday, was caught up in the excitement on my SFC clear shell. IIRC that was a very solid Socket370 board. LuckyTech was an subsidiary of SoYo if I'm not mistaken. Nice find!

This was weird;
What he was able to do is not only very bizarre, but the results were just crazy!

^Loved that guy, he did something out of the box. It's something I would have done if I got time to spare. I did modified BIOS like that before, heck even I run modded BIOS on my laptop thanks to bios-mods forums, idk why newer laptops unable to manually configured Boost clock and voltages it's not like we can go over the default multiplier limit

LuckyTech was an subsidiary of SoYo if I'm not mistaken.
They weren't though. Soyo's parent company was Soyo Group Inc, while Luckytech's company was Shining Yuan Enterprises (SYE).

A lot of SYE's mobos were sold under the Sector brand, as well as some under the Polaris brand, though not all of them as Polaris usually alternated - some of their boards are SYE/Luckytech rebrands, some are FordLian/Redfox rebrands, with some going deeper (as some of Redfox' mobos were subsequently rebranded Acorp mobos).

I also have the P5MVP3, a really neat and small MVP3 mobo (SYE was famous for making compact mobos), all recapped and running a K6-2+ 550 w/ a V3 3000 (though I might swap the V3 soon, I reckon a socket 370 might benefit from it over a K6-2) and ~256MB of RAM or so.

A few changes have been made since the photo in my first post about it was taken:

- a few of the caps (mainly the critical stuff but I'm trying to source some more caps and do the whole board) were changed to 1000uF 6.3v OST RLX off a useless MSI PM9M-V board, originals being some awfully dry Canicon 1500uF 6.3v caps.
- changed the BIOS chip as it was pretty rotten it seems - original chip was a AMD AM29F002BT, new one is a EoN EN29F002NT
- added a golden DIN5 socket, along with a new fuse, lifted from a long dead Biostar 8500TVX
- replaced the awfully bent PS/2 mouse header with a yellow one I made from a Raspberry Pi Pico kit I had
- dropped in a Celeron 533 for the time being, until I can either find the BIOS for P6VBX7A (which uses 693A and has Coppermine P3 support) or a 693A/596/W977 AT mobo BIOS and drop in a P3 850 or a 1GHz (since the mobo does look up to it, and 693A is simply a 693 w/ 133 support.)

There was also an Octek 430HX (or VX, not sure which) mobo alongside this one... unfortunately that one was in such a dire shape that it was pretty much impossible to repair.

EDIT: My bad, it wasn't an Octek it seems. PCPartner MB500N was actually the one that was there besides the P6VBX7. Trust me though, that one was a total loss.

Oh, my mistake. Wasn't 100%. It's been a long time. I knew there was an "S" & "Y" in the name, thus why SoYo came to mind. Thank You for clarifying! :toast:

And they were good at it!

I could use some assistance on a revival project. Got a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI that's missing a few components.

If anyone has the values for R547 and R566 on the back side of the card, I'd love to find some replacements.

I have several models I've not found in the GPU database, so it doesn't appear to be all encompassing.

@W1zzard , for the database if we have card models not listed, do you want to know? do they get listed perhaps after uploading a bios?
