How those speakers sound? I remember that many of those better 90s speakers were actually pretty damn good

Nathan aka PixelPipes cheered me on his discord channel that I do a #gpujune video of 6800 Ultra :) I most likely will do that, I just need to recap few other AGP cards because why the hell not I'd put them all in the same chart.

I'll be running everything at stock though I run Radeon 9550 at stock AND at 9600 Pro clocks.

Came with a bunch of memory sicks ( I think both SDR and DDR but not sure), whatever is that LAN card voodoo thingy, and a Radeon 9600 Pro OEM'd by either Gecube or Club3D.

Just wondering that would a IDE-CF adapter be a fine replacement for an older laptop for its HDD? Works fine but as you know, older 2.5" HDDs are hella slow.

There are also IDE to M.2 adapters with a SSD slot. Might be fun to try out.

Now that's a handy one since M.2 drives are cheap, getting a 256GB drive for example is practically half-free these days.

And I've made some great headway on my 2004 Retro rig. A mixture of era appropriate and era specific, case/psu, video card, OS (XP) and monitor so far are specific, the rest is .... appropriate (enough) imo, and I sort of follow Pixel Pipes ethos, they're used on a newer underlying system (CPU/Mobo/RAM) and newer drivers than 2004 to see the true capability of the card and very much ensure the GPU is the primary bottleneck, all viewed in glorious CRT 85hz glory :) currently rocking a 6600GT of which I had several in the day, but I have plans for higher end 2004 GPU's to test/remain in there, including my all time favorite video card ever, and first top dog GPU I ever bought with my own hard earned...

What a journey the last few days has been reliving my halcyon years, so damn much fun.

A received nice package of DFI boards today. :D

DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert
DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D
DFI Lanparty UT nF3 250Gb

I've gotten a bunch of cpu's and a kit of Centon Advanced PC4000 2-2-2-5 BH-5 DIMM's with them too.

The Expert and Ultra-D work perfectly, just stuck a new battery in and they fired right up.

As for the 250Gb, it has blown caps but it's in brand new condition with all accessories still sealed. These boards are known for the caps to go bad apparently, so I'll order some new ones up and see if I can get it going.

Hey there :) I been trying too find info for this i also have a DFI Lanparty UT nF3 250Gb that i bought brand new back than about 5 years ago i tried too power it up and ony way it will power on but yea not boot or anything... Unplugging the 4 pin power and i also noticed the caps on the 4 pin area next to the cpu socket was all bloated up more so the way yours is ...

And i left someone else try too recap it back than not sure why i just didin't do it .. And yea he failed and i also noticed there is mismatch caps in place on some of them like 2200uf which yea forsure not the right caps to be on the board..

I was wondering if you know what caps and the placement and order were they go? i know 3300uf and there's 1500ufs. More so i like too recap the board but just need to know the right caps in that area and more so too see if it even boots afterwards if it does i more so will recap most of the board with caps that matters .

Hopefully you know the info of this cause yea i saw your post from 2017 lol I been searching online trying too find answers or a diagram but cant find any...

thanks :)

That could be pointing to a faulty VCore mosfet, so I'd take a really good look a it once the caps are removed.

Speaking of recaps, this behemoth will find its way to me. I already prepared a whole Xenon revision Xbox 360 mainboard for capacitor harvesting for it and should get to work soon enough.

MSI 694D Pro, 2x 1GHz Coppermines, dunno how much SDR (though I'd guesstimate somewhere in the 1GB - 2GB range, given it's a VIA chipset we're talking about) and a 40GB HDD with XP preloaded on it.

It maybe ain't no VP6, but MSI is also a good choice other than ABIT.

That board has some seriously squirrely SATA connector placement.. Two of them are next to the IDE connectors, which is normal, but then two more right next to the CPU/AGP? What the...

Thanks man you a life saver :)

Yea what i was worrying about too sense i did have another mb brand that blown a mosfet and yep would ony power on with the 12 volt unplugged.. Will check them once i get the the caps off. Now if there is a problem with them can they be replaced ?

Now this board was working i say before 2019 when i last had it up and running than i left it sat till i tried turn it on one day and it wouldn't show any life till i pulled the 4pin cause i thought it mightve been the psu and it powered but yea no boot so i took a closer looked and found a good bit of those caps bloated on them.

But yea hopefully i can get it back working sense yea i always loved DFI boards have a socket 939 which im glad does work still lol And yea they seem too be very very hard too find sense i been trying too look for a 250gb on ebay for couple years now yea no such luck.,.. lol

I would say, first try to replace the capacitors around the mosfets. I had the same problem with an Athlon XP system.
No life in the CPU, and replaced the capacitors. After that it boot again..

Something about that case is familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. :)

Oh yeah, I have my photo PC in a case that's really similar. Although mine isn't being used for a retro build. Well, it wasn't retro when I built it. lol
It is housing an i5-4670k, Asrock Z87 mobo, 32GB DDR3-1600 RAM & an RX480 8GB.

Upgraded my Elitebook 8530P from a C2D P8700 2.53GHz 3MB to a C2D T9800 2.93GHz 6MB...
That laptop is still working beautifully to this day, but I wanted more. So now I find myself burdened by way too many elitebooks after buying a lot listing.

This is my "new" (16 year old) HP Elitebook 8730w, which is a "holy grail" model I had been seeking out for awhile.

20240117_205945.jpg

20240117_210041.jpg

It has some dents and dings, but is in overall good condition. Mine is configured with a P9400, 4GB Ram, the mid tier Quadro FX2700M GPU and 1050p CCFL display. Still has the original working battery.

These could be optioned up to a QX9300 Extreme, 8GB RAM, a 1GB Quadro FX3700M, and a 1200p 16x10 LED "Dreamcolor" display. I may look into throwing some of these upgrades into mine.

So far with an SSD it's a very competent machine despite being almost as old as I am.

Also part of that lot I gained 3 more 8530ps on top of what I already had.
I am going to combine parts to make the best 8530p I can. I am going to base it on this one pictured. It's in far better shape than my old one or any of these other machines. also has a 1050p display just like my last one.

20240117_210129.jpg

Works just fine. I think it has a p9400 and 4gb ram with the same dreadful Radeon 3650 they all come with. I am looking into upgrading it to the Quadro FX770M from the 8530w as it should handle YouTube better and generally even aero better.

Do any of you buy faulty for parts not working Motherboards?o_OIf you have you had any that you got working?o_O
Or like the guy in the video ,do you think it is a bad idea.Of course the price has to be right to do that.I have not long moved in to a new place :) thats why i have not been on here for some time.I chucked out over half the stuff i had LP.s Hifi CD.s and four PC cases. It is allways the best thing to do when you move and have a fresh start. :)

Yup. I'll buy the occasional "for parts" mobo to either use as parts or to use as a board to repair with parts from a dead/dying board.

The VLB mobo needs work as it won't detect the VLB cards at all, only standard ISA.

Also yay, no leaky Varta on the mobo! It factory came out with a external battery very likely.
