Been waiting for one of these to pop up with its original retail box and matching serials : )

Hopefully its old enough to belong in this thread. Does it also scrape in the rare GPU thread??

Overall GPU(s) was very clean, almost like brand new.

Had to enable CSM in the Z690 bios for it to boot.

I did take GPUz photo and a 3DM11 Extreme benchmark finished shot but files were too large to upload.

You in the US? I can send you a Riva.
"Can you please describe the content, sir?" -Yeah, it's an old piece of hardware, difficult to come by nowadays. "Hardware, sir?" -Yeah, that's a TNT in there

It would make a very interesting conversation at the post office, no doubt :D

This Classy won't go anywhere anytime soon. I am pretty sure that it is working though but I lack the tools to replace the DVI ports atm. The PCB has sustained heavy damage in that area too!

The PCI-E power socket was removed easily.

I'll see how this will pan out but my gut feelings says that it will be one heck of an episode once I start posting on the Project Logs section again. :D

It pains me to see such cards get busted in this way ... buy stuff that you want now as later it will be too expensive or it won't be available!

At first I assumed that the card was simply fried. But judging from the PCI plate it appears to be heavily vandalized ... any idea what happened to it?

Some of you may recall that I mentioned & talked about stairwell lighting fixtures, and how I preserved some of them while I had the chance, right? Only a day or two afterwards, I went back to save what's left of them, when I realized that one of the glass shades, globes are busted. No idea how, or why ... probably vandalized. Or perhaps (and more likely) someone was on a lookout for LED bulbs & simply ransacked the entire box (without paying any attention or care to the content inside) to the point where the glass hit something & shattered.

Now looking back, I feel like an idiot for not taking the whole box with me. It would had been better than ending up with glass chunks & busted (vintage) lamp sockets.

Yeah, I've been looking for one for over the past few years and am starting to see them harder and harder to find complete their original retail boxes.

I was keen on one a couple of years ago but didn't go through with the sale and I did end up finding this one cheaper than I would have paid a couple of years ago so decided to finally pull the pin.

I'm surprised at how clean this GPU is.

GL on your hunt : )

Cheers.

From ebay. A Quadro FX4600 (8800GTS but with the GTX memorybus and 768Mb vram)
It is damaged, a lot of missing, broken SMD-s. I dont think it can work.
Ebay return started, I got refund but i dont need to send it back. So the card was free.

I'll give it a try! I have display! Even the Vista boots up, installing drivers...and...
He wants to live!
Not a single artifact, works fine. Temps are high 80C at load but i think its never been repasted.
But of course those SMD-s were there for a reason, so it will not be long-lived.

Quadros are interesting as they have somewhat interesting shader and bus configurations when compared to their GF counterparts. And the same goes to older ATI/AMD FireGL cards.

Finally, after all this years, i got a working CRT thanks to a good friend. Paired it up with a X850XT, Xeon X5675, 12GB of RAM, XFI Music, a Rampage II mobo. Only downside is the smell it gives when it heats up since it was used in a place where they smoked a lot. But other than that is works perfectly at 1024x768@100Hz. I had forgotten how bad CRTs were at 60Hz :) Also that X850XT has had that Silencer on for about 15 years now, and it looks like the thermal paste is still good on it, and the PSU i had it since 2010 in a lot of systems and still outputs good current.

Got to play a little FEAR and some Warhammer Mark of Chaos. But other classics are in queue to be played, like Warcraft III, Quake III, Delta Force, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear etc.

iiyama, very nice! This reminds me I have a Philips 107P4 I need to dust off and power up :) IIRC the Philips I have uses a Trinitron tube. Forgot what's the max frequency it runs on but the resolution goes as high as 1920x1400 despite being 17 inches.

And go to town with a few retro mainboards - ABIT BP6, QDI P6I440LX, K7S5A v3 (the sassy black version, not the Pro), BE6-II and a DFI Infinity nF4 SLi as well :D

Man, you made me dig out my old Flatron... Thanks, I guess. It's 17" 1024x768@100Hz.

IMG_20240227_194314.jpg

It's alive and I've cleaned it from the outside. Now just to open it up, and treat it with an air compressor in the workshop tomorrow. The only "problem" is there's no VGA port on 6900XT, 5700XT, 1060 (in a box)... So I need to dig out my E6300 machine as well, and there's the excuse for an upgrade to the E7500 (from the junkyard) in the process.

I'm using this opportunity to ask everyone for a converter recommendation. DP or HDMI to VGA? Any quality loss to expect?

Not too much, and it may be native in the DP, depending on the supported standards. Some DP ports have an analog signal natively, so it could be just a passive adapter.

Flatron ... now, that's a name I haven't heard in years! Used to have 775FT back in 2007, 2008 until it eventually died. As I remember, the picture was getting darker & darker to the point where it wouldn't want to turn on, and it was making a loud, clicking sounds. Kinda like high voltage discharges, over & over again.

Now that I think about it, that 775FT was the last CRT I used, all the other monitors from that point forward were either LCD or LED. Not including retro gaming systems obviously, as I'm still using Adi MicroScan 15P CRT monitor today.

Why do I feel like I'm actively torturing that BX chipset by running a 800EB on it lol

Yes, the mobo (DTK PRM-27i E0) supports all chips bar Tualatins. Also that Deskstar sounds sweet for its age.

Many I've met were surprised to hear a Deskstar still in service (and it's not the only one I have with the IBM logo working - y'all remember the 60GXP drives? Got one of those working as well and fast as heck.) while it seems these have fared better than quite a few lot of higher capacity WDs I own.

Is there a forun on here about computer desks? o_OI want to get a Lshaped on,there are so many to choose from. And even the top selling ones seem to have problems about not having the right size screws and the units having damage to them.https://youtu.be/5iaxxDW8IxQ?t=27 This one https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81ioD6WoCeL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
I use just some random generic screws on my desks. Though I also have done some damage to the other one with too long screws, but that's just a cosmetic thing and I don't care.

If you have materials and tools, why not build one yourself? :)
