LOL. The second wealthiest company in the world, and the wealthiest semiconductor foundry, sit together with agreement to raise prices, without much conscent from the rest of foundry clients... yeah, the ordinary consumer definitely has a power of voice and action... yeah, they pretty much can go, scream outside, and get kick/*** themselves, free of charge. [Sarcasm ends here]This is blatantly wrong. Consumers have the ULTIMATE power, which is the wallet! If consumers stop buying, guess what? All those other companies, all their money, ALL of it dries up. All of it goes away.
The government isnt the solution to everything.

Consumers not buying 1k$ GPUs won't make them cheaper when they can sell the same chips to the automotive industry for 5k$ or AI server farms for 30k$.

This is the wild wild west market, and the continuation of the crypto scam. If these cards won't be bought by the consumers, the AI gang will buy out them in a nick of time, even with much higher margins.
And yes. This is a job of the government, to put these mad dogs in place. This is obvious, how and where it all went, when the companies left "unattended". The market will not fix itself. It will serve only the greediest and most corrupt.
I agree though, that governments lack the supervision, or even go "in touch" with corporations. But the regulators, should definitelly widen their list of companies with anti-consumer behavior. This is time to finally make some order, in the mad rush.
I've got news for you. Automotive chips are a small fraction of the size and power of a GPU. And while were at it. I doubt the auto industry has started using 7nm, much less 3nm.Consumers not buying 1k$ GPUs won't make them cheaper when they can sell the same chips to the automotive industry for 5k$ or AI server farms for 30k$.

I tend to agree. IMO we see the 5090 increase in price again, talking MSRP of course, 1599 now will become 1699-1999, unless they create another new even higher than '90' tier, like back to something like a Titan but I'd say it's unlikely. What I do think though is the gap between a 5090 and 5080 might be a bit wider than the gap between a 4090 and 4080. I doubt Nvidia will have any trouble selling a 5080 that's ≥4090 performance for 1199 again which seems like a more realistic ballpark. I'd wager even a $100 increase to that would cause quite a bit of backlash and lackluster sales. As impressive as a 4090 still is, it's almost 2 years old now.Should have ended that with a /s because that is absurd. Even the 5080 prediction is absurd.

As much as AMD is reported to not be competing in the high(est) end with RDNA4, if they punch around 4070TiS/4080/7900XT/XTX performance tier and are significantly more affordable, with reasonably compelling features and of course, a large VRAM pool, that will sway a lot of people. The issue they'd have there is if they are the obvious choice, they won't be able to make enough of them and the price will creep up becuase of demand, so I'm not holding my breath, they seem more content to launch at higher prices, and slowly lower capturing buyers willing to pay the going asking price as it moves.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Isn't supporting your component supplier by making them earn more money kind of... you know, goes against greed?
Aren't higher prices for advanced lithography sensible? Isn't triggering competition due to higher prices by using other factories goes against fabrication monopoly?
I won't answer those questions, but I do not expect most TPU members to bring them up before furiously bashing the keyboard at the sight of the word combination "price increase".
