Oldish thread but..... The old Gigabyte EP45 and EP45T series are the champions at overclocking Wolfdale and Yorkfiled processors.

I almost went for one of these boards with a CNPS cooler and a q9550 but the i7-920 had just been released.

UD3R/UD3P stuff is really good for easy preset OC.
Rampage Extreme is where you tweak things one at the time

D9s are REALLY fast, but this is 2024 and not 2008.
4GB of RAM just plainly isn't enough for 64-bit OS'es (putting aside longevity issues for now).
If you like to run older benchmarks - there is nothing better though

The D9's i had from the pic i posted did 1120mhz 1:1 they were very good at the time.

The only d9gmh i killed were 4x256 ballistix (and I went thru lots o d9s). I wanted them to die(overvolted the shit out of them)...was hoping Crucial would swap em for some 512s. Nope. I was stuck with them. They clocked great, but 256mb sucked.

The best ddr2 1gb modules i came across were some 2x1gb gskill reapers 1066 (promos ics) that did just shy of 1200 on my q6700 780i rig. Didn't expect them to do more than stock and damn near hit 1200 with them. Once word got out, they were impossible to find. So getting a matching pair was a no go.

I have some G.Skill PC8500 that does just shy of 1200 as well, good stuff. It is stable at 1150 daily, they work well on my Rampage Formula.

IIRC, there used to be a WR OC C2D or C2Q build in the case mods/builds database, that was submerged in mineral oil with crushed dry ice dropped in.

Cooling down the entire system seemed to aid his OCing. -Sadly, I haven't been able to find images of that build in *years*.

Modules i've been running ran on 2.0V set in BIOS. (I was afraid to give it more juice

I didn't want to fry these LP modules)
I was running 4x2GB configuration and CL was set to 5-5-5-15.
Thanks for telling me about this "OC wall" of C2Q I did'nt know about it.

I have an Asus P5Q Pro myself, and AFAIK it's maybe an enthusiast-grade OC board, but at least decent?

Can't even remember how much I paid for it, came with a Q9500 and some RAM. Though now I have a Q9550 and lots of DDR2 (from 256MB to 2GB sticks) so I could test invidual sticks easily.
