Update: Right after the above rant, I told the system to check for updates and I noticed that the scan took longer and there wasn't the same old message about it being up-to-date and instead a message about an update and that it can't be rolled back, which is a very good sign, then I rebooted and finished the update.

Seems normal that I get a previous month's update a month later. This time, for what looks like a December, 2022 update, I got it in January, 2023. Looks like business-as-usual.

Just months ago, it started looking like that I wasn't getting updates after 2021!

I do have cons for the Galaxy S5 from 2014:

1: I was cut off after 2017 (only 3 years) The last updates I got, were in 2017 for the 2014 phone. (IIRC)

2: You need a third party app to use the LED as a flashlight. (This is not the case for the S10 from 2019)

I dunno, but everywhere I see it, it carries that VESA certified tag....so, unless it's an outright lie, I guess that's truth to it. Besides, holding and seeing the cable now, I can tell it's well built with a sturdy nylon braiding for durability. But as I'd said, I do have a couple of DP1.4 cables (Club3D, Linkup, both are VESA certified too), and I can always fall back on them should this cable turns out to be a dud.

What you describe is identical to junk - inflated stiff housing carrying subpar wire construction that is poorly terminated within low quality but shiny connectors. Internet is full of photos and descriptions of what a cheaply made cable looks like inside and how to assess them without cutting one apart.

You're entitled to whatever opinion you have, though 'without casting unjustified doubts', you'd certainly laid it on thick there....but whatever. I don't judge anything just based on feel and looks alone, when I've had no experience with it, and simply basing my opinion on the net and pics only.

You are making personal assignations where I made clear a very widespread deceit. It is equally common to encounter a product once made to acceptable standards vacate them near completely once resellers have a high and dignifying assessment established within their reviews. Relax, bad DP cables were ruining a lot of expensive equipment not so long ago. HDMI and others, less so. They just worked poorly.

The intent was to clarify in a few words how hard visual inspection can be without reference or a breakdown depicting what to look for.

Shielding, easily charged by static electricity sparkly woven plastic over rubber hosing are low grade. Foil that might be used on a thin and supple black vinyl cable? You be the judge.

Certification can arrive on packaging before it does on an official listing. Just so that doesn't go unsaid. If it looks counterfeit, look elsewhere and not at taking a chance on something cheaper.

Looking at that Ryzen 7000-series CPU, it looks like there may be a high amount of incidents of TIM shorting out SMD components, unlike Ryzen 5000 series and earlier!

At least, Intel put them on the bottom with socket 775 and socket 1366. IIRC, the same with 10th-gen Core i series.

98% of thermal pastes are not electrically conductive, so doubt that's the case

I thought it was determined if it wasn't conductive or capacitive it's a non-issue other than the grossness of goo getting trapped under the IHS forever.

Thought I'd try this out since I need a way to run my top exhaust A12x25s at lower rpm. The last available PWM header on my board can only be slaved in speed to the one next to it (which are running my front intakes).

FC1 is pretty nifty since it runs off a microcontroller that provides its own PWM signal, even when it's only running off PSU power with no connection to the motherboard. It's actually a lot smaller than the marketing materials make it look.

@GamerGuy I'm just surprised you even managed to find a DP2.0 cable, certified or not.

I'm gonna head down to ME tomorrow to pick up a 1.4 certified Club3D cable to continue troubleshooting these Navi 31 multi monitor woes.

Mine is a Snapdragon variant, but I'm suspicious that I'm getting denied updates, as if it were 10 freaking years old!

there was a faulty update for samsungs that bricked if upgrading from launch versions (So android 11 straight to 13, etc) so they halted all updates for a bit before the fix came out

Seems fine so far, encountered few small problems like fan controlling which sucks because most programs I tried so far don't recognize the CPU.

ITX boards have gone sky high and ATX boards wont fit in the case very well.

Not really a tech purchase.. or is it? Quite a bit of tech in the Powertrain and controls, also sounds like a server when powered on due to tiny screaming fans on the control electronics and motor.
