What's your latest tech purchase?

> skips the fire sale 6900XT due to fear of 650W transients
> chooses 7900XT due to ostensibly having manageable power requirements, and not having to buy a HX1000
> still has to buy a HX1000 to troubleshoot the infantile 7900XT that just can't take care of itself

It's a nice looking PSU and fills out the case nicely, though. Bonus points for being able to interchangeably use my white cable kit between the SF750 and HX1000 (CP-8920217)

Not really a tech purchase.. or is it? Quite a bit of tech in the Powertrain and controls, also sounds like a server when powered on due to tiny screaming fans on the control electronics and motor.
12 Ounce beer can added for size comparison :)

Definitely tech - remote control systems are not to be sneezed at.

My buddies got a formula 1 car that he races real cars with down his street...and beats em! Drives underneath em, out past the front of them, it's funny as hell to watch. Its got some kind of crazy 0-60 time, like crotch rocket fast. You think we put money into puters? Ha, those badboys and all the aftermarket parts are esspensive.

Hope you get it sorted.

Have you ever seen the original version of the Corsair HX1000?

Pic below is not photoshopped :p

Yup that's 2x500w psu's stuffed in a single case

My most recent purchase (Nov '22) was an additional 1TB SATA SSD for my gaming rig, a Samsung 870 EVO to be exact.

Why the purchase? Because I foolishly believed that the 8TB (5400 RPM) drive I initially purchased would be fine for gaming! So I stored my games on it alongside my OneDrive (which is pushing 2TB these days, thus the storage capacity), this was a naive mistake. It turns out any sync activity from OneDrive would hold everything up in my games ESPECIALLY if I was playing a Souls-like (because of the way their save system works).

Why SATA over NVMe, considering the amount of NVMe slots I have on my mainboard? Because I am lazy, I had no desire to undo all of my hard work building the rig a couple of weeks before and figured SATA would be good enough for my games. It seems that I was right so far. It was a nice easy install and it keeps up with my needs just fine.

Since my 2nd rig would be close to my TV, hence I am retiring my 4770K + GTX 1080 HTPC, I need a cable long enough to reach the TV, yet without dropouts and such. I went with a 10 feet Maxonar HDMI 2.1 cable, which, should I get a high refresh rate 4K TV in the future, is ready for 4K 120Hz....

Actually, I wish DP2.0 cables would come in such packing, with a standardized logo on it to assure customers that the cable is indeed DP2.0 certified.

Big PSU = easier to tidy up

Damn, PSUs have come a long way, the current HX1000 looks kinda empty by comparison. It's large but pretty light in the hand all things considered.

I just got my Fractal Celsius+ S36 Dynamic AIO
IIRC, I noticed that the Thermaltake Water 3.0 has the same type of mounting onto the existing plastic brackets, like the Fractal Celsius+ Dynamic has, which are the same plastic tabs that the Wraith Prism uses.
Where one end that hooks to the tab on one side, is fastened by a screw. That hook, has a thread for that screw. It uses a screw instead of a lever like the Wraith Prism has.

skips the fire sale 6900XT due to fear of 650W transients
I am still a bit antsy running my new 6950XT on my 850W I mean it's a top shelf PSU and the transients aren't supposed to be as much of an issue on the 6950XT but still..It's currently is pulling 325W on the OC BIOS totally "stock". I mean I don't feel any need to overclock or push it as it's leaps and bounds over my 6700XT already for my res, but I still have that worry about possible transients happening. I've thrown most of the more power limited benches at it and established its 325W max which I think is safe enough but without logging it I would never be able to catch a transient other than the OCP tripping...

I don't believe 750W was necessarily inadequate for my 7900XT; I just wanted to be thorough. After the DP1.4 certified cable and HX1000, I have not crashed yet and performance is much smoother now, but it is still far too early to come to a scientific conclusion. The 20ms audio stutter still happens once in a while but with adjusted habits it's a non-issue compared to what it used to be.

However, SF750 did have trouble stabilizing an undervolt of any amount in games; I still need to test with the HX1000 to see if this is a RDNA problem or PSU problem.

Unless you are facing the same performance and stability problems as I was, I wouldn't waste time worrying about your PSU.

It’s just too early to tell but the 12V can do up to 840W now can it handle a 450W spike? So far so good. I too need to buy a new Club3D DP. Mine kinda “fell apart“ but it was probably getting as old as the standard I bought it years ago when the first 144hz. IPS we’re coming out and random cable couldn‘t handle it.

So I'm your upgrade twiny.

New 7900XT MBA owner here.

Same GPU ish.

I look to have been lucky though I upgraded do cable to a certified one prior though I do still get audio cut outs if running sound and vision through it.

Pushing sound through alternative means eliminated this I use Bluetooth or the mobi soundchip via classic jacks.

MBA, so quite literally the same :D I use a E10K DAC so I usually have all onboard and GPU audio disabled.

I posted some CapframeX and Latencymon results somewhere in the RDNA3 thread, when the stuttering was at its worst. Needless to say it was some of the most disgraceful performance I've ever seen from a computer, ever.

Much of it seems to go back to the problems that RDNA3 is having with multi-monitor. On the latest driver things are noticeably better, as long as I try to keep the other monitor blank while I'm in-game.

I won't bore tech purchase with my spiel, I'll post in RDNA3 thread when I'm done testing.

CableMod 600W cable for the EVGA G2 PSU (ordered Dec 24), can now run 111% power limit for benchmarks and looks a little better than the OEM cable adapter :D

Corsair DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB 32GB DDR5 DRAM 6400MHz C38 coming tomorrow (it's on the QVL list from ASrock while the EXPO model isn't  This is going to be fun  )

TitanRig sale $53 Lamptron HM088 8.8" screen. The brightness is not bad and the viewing angles are pretty good and it runs HDMI 60Hz.
In the 011D if you use slim fans on the bottom you don't need the mounting bracket as it sits between the fan and glass nicely or you can use the mounting bracket and have it fit nicely above the fans.

(edit)

Was supposed to be looking at getting PC stats on this thing but ended up watching some classics instead...:slap:

Hehehaw, I'm running 130% PL with a 300-watt cable. (550-watts)

The cable comes from a GF3 850 so hopefully, I don't burn down the house.

Weirdly, the 850-watter can handle a 7950x and 4090 at around 750 watts. (Not even counting other components.

Being bored at work is a nightmare, I just bought a Ragnarok bundled ps5, I just need gran turismo in my life again.

This was a tight fit, couldn't bother removing the GPU so just pushed it a little away from the RAM as the vertical mount has some flex in all sides

Wonder if i'll make it work at 6400, according to the QVL list XMP should work but i highly doubt it, maybe i'll return it and get the EXPO kit instead  At least it's Hynix and 02/23 manufacturing date, so totally new :D

I've almost bought a PS5 four times now because I really want to play GT. Every time I chicken out.
I have been wanting one since release but could not get hold of one at all.
I had waved it off but in the end I miss gran turismo too much.
Grid19 dirt 5 nor any other game is quite the same.

I wish GT one day on PC.
We've got Uncharted, God of War, Forza Horizon etc ...
No needs for console anymore ...

Well not really for myself, except one of the ssds... Needed to rebuild an Asus z170a system with a 6700k for a friend. The system used to belong to our mutual friend
who passed away. It had a failed aio and psu. Replaced all and he's happily using it now:
