So in lieu of recent events I went with Plan C, keep the old g-sync display and go for a cheap upgrade.

Ordered a 4070 for $420 after tax w/ some gift card shuffling.
Selling the 3060 Ti to someone local for $200 as well.

I'll just wait a bit longer to make the leap to 4K, it's all good - the displays should be better/cheaper then too.

You honestly made a smart move here imo. Well done. Don't forget to enable gsync for windowed mode, Nvidia doesn't do that by default, really annoying.
ASUS ROG Strix 34" Ultra-Wide (XG349C) Gaming Monitor 3440 x 1440 - 180Hz but play at 144Hz, which is more than enough.
ASUS Dual X 6700 XT.

6700 XT is capable of 180hz at that resolution with a DP cable, I don't understand why not just enable it, turn off vsync in games, create a frame cap of 175 fps, turn on freesync/gysnc, and call it a day. smooth experience, and some really old games like dragon age origins would hit the 175 fps too and look slightly smoother.
Ended up with this thing instead, it's a generic thing branded by some Taiwanese company, but at least they point out it's the RTL8156B chip and it seems to be working as it should.

Now this was tested against an Intel i-225V, as for some reason, I'm having major issues with my Aquantia 10 Gbps cards and pretty much anything I connect to them. It's fine to send data to the Aquantia card, but receiving data from them ends up at no more than 600 Mbps, which is just insane. Here's the kicker though, Aquantia to Aquantia works just fine, so it seems like Marvell has introduced some kind of driver bug, which will be impossible to have fixed, since they don't do end user support, unlike Aquantia.

I know this is somewhat the wrong thread for this, but the previous adapter I bought, might just have been fine. Oh well...

my brand is called Accell for my type c to 2.5gb ethernet adapter. was shipped and sold by walmart so i know its legit, been rock solid for me in more ways than one. glad you found one that works!

on topic: sold my ryzen chip to a buddy irl for only 25 dollars less than what I paid for it and upgraded to a Ryzen 5600X3D for $200 (had a coupon bringing the cost down from 229 msrp) got it from microcenter. it doesn't break 60 celsius in games on my FC140 with arctic mx-6... crazy how cold it runs. @freeagent FC140 for $43 was one of the best buys I made this year. this chip was only about 100 bucks out of pocket upgrade, sure as heck beats spending half a grand on a whole new platform.

it runs with a negative 30 offset just fine too, several games, cinebench, runs rock solid. r23 multi score was right on point with a regular 5600x, slightly better in fact (which surprised me since it has higher clocks than 5600x3d) i play a lot of games that utilize x3d cache like starcraft 2, 4x games, etc. so for 100 bucks out of pocket to get some x3d cache, was a solid deal in my eyes. i think i am going to postpone my "ultimate build" which was going to be 8800x3d... to 9900x3d now (i might even wait until AM6 honestly, as I have loads of backlog and my current rig handles it fine) I am in no rush, my rig is pretty rock solid now. its all about those min framerates that x3d cache brings to the table.

The Focal Clear purchase somewhat necessitated a better DAC/AMP, at least that's what I tell myself. Something that can more closely match the capabilities on offer and my lord what an upgrade. Also trying Amazon Music Unlimited, never have before and in all of an hour I'm fairly convinced to drop Tidal (which was an on and off affair anyway). Way cheaper, and I instantly prefer the UI and transparency around audio quality and capability. The 'old' DaC/AMP is a JDS Labs C5D (pictured below new model), you sure earned your keep little fella.

FiiO K7, and the included (with Focal Clears) balanced XLR lead through a ddHiFi XLR44C XLR 4 Pin to 4.4mm Balanced Adapter, USB connection through an Audioquest Jitterbug. Holy moley. First time in my life genuinely hearing music in such high fidelity, I've watched 4K movies/shows that haven't been as high quality as this audio stream can be (9216kbps).

Two more SilverStone FHP-141 V2 fans from Amazon Prime. They arrived yesterday afternoon and I checked them this morning. One was definitely brand new and in an unopened sealed box. The other had been opened through the bottom of the box (the tape seals on top were intact) and all of the accessories are missing plus the fan has obviously been used. This isn't the first time I've had this issue with Amazon either. After calling customer service they said a replacement fan is on the way and to keep the used one. I haven't checked yet to see if it even works.

I love my K7. Solid all around. Just haven't been able to enjoy it too much because of some chronic middle ear issues and waiting on ENT appointment, so these days I'm usually listening to the MR4s instead.

Haven't gotten it yet, but I did preorder and paid to upgrade my 2nd phone. Traded in my 256GB Z Flip 3 and paid the difference for a 512GB Z Flip 5, love the larger and secksay front screen! Will post a pic or two when I get it...

imo the Element amp/dac you have is already better than the K7, but the Focal Clear from your Beyer's might be a medium upgrade. those beyers are pretter damn good, plus you can't beat those silver cushions Beyer uses, so comfy.

Should have been a bit more specific there, but it generally trigged my audio bug as well lol.
I am not looking forward to replacing the pads on these (apparently it's a real PITA), they're about 5 years old though so time to watch some YouTube.

Got an iFixit Moray kit for about 20 Euros. Probably my best buying decision, this year!
Really nice build quality, even though the screwdriver handle is made from plastic.

I was given something similar from a company that may or many not launch it as a product, so I can't share the pictures, but with a metal handle. Copycat case, but it comes with more bits, although I've seen iFixit has some bigger toolkits as well. I'm expecting it to sell for a lot more than €20 though.

Let's call this by the proper name, scratch disk. Lex is right to assert a PC doesn't typically require anything beyond RAM.

some games will require a page file, like star wars the force unleashed 2 won't run if it detects no page file active. (i found this out recently because disabling page file made god of war buttery smooth) then when i went to go play force unleashed 2 it was like we can't launch cause no virtual memory detected... lmao.

so have to enable it for some games i guess, i leave page file fully disabled for most of the time though now, my rig seems snappier without it on for some reason, no diea why. i have 32gb of ram and all i do is game, so im not worried about running out of ram. also god of war was stuttering with page file on for some reason, but like i said with it off, its buttery smooth the entire time, very odd, but hey if it works it works.

Mine as well. I had a page file peak around 50GB for 16GB of ram once but I wouldn't say that's normal for an everyday user.
When I had 4GB RAM and 6GB combined VRAM from 3 cards, I wrote C++ library to allocate arrays from VRAM. Random-access VRAM is so much better than random-accessing SSD by page file. Link to repo: https://github.com/tugrul512bit/VirtualMultiArray

But now I have more RAM so not using it anymore.

Just use %50 of total system memory for page file so you max out virtual memory allocation and use that other 100% of x1.5 recommendation towards hibernation file. Cake and eat it then you can flex on Lex and Mussels on who's the king of wasting slow storage capacity efficiently and most effectively.

I was given something similar from a company that may or many not launch it as a product, so I can't share the pictures, but with a metal handle. Copycat case, but it comes with more bits, although I've seen iFixit has some bigger toolkits as well. I'm expecting it to sell for a lot more than €20 though.
After buying Ifixits Big set last Christmas I can say buy it, it's brilliant, it has a Lot of bits, if you're one is similar, happy time's.

It even had a tire valve bit for cars, it's my precious that set.

In a quest to go paperless I got the new Fold5 and Ultra tablet, a very steep discounts still was't enough to completely prevent me from feeling the sting despite the tablet was technically free.

Paperless has been a myth since the 1980's...
In fact, it seems like we're using more paper than ever these days, at least work wise.
The only reduction in paper use appears to be news papers and advertisement.

my entire school system and hospital in the town i live in has been paperless since around 2015. all the students from grades 6-12 get assigned a macbook, thats what they do everything on now, including their textbooks. and grade k-5 get an ipad. nurses always bring in a tablet/laptop to the doctor office visits, as do the doctors when they come in after the nurse.

my town is just ahead of the game i guess, i don't know. i wish more would go paperless though true. i think we should also give students ereaders, as its so much nicer to read on a proper ereader than a macbook/ipad.

I still keep one around, but TBH the only thing I ever use it for (at home) is to print a return shipping label or official forms/documents.
Some things are still old school, I recently renewed my passport and that's physically mailing in your old one w paperwork by snail mail.

Ironically the infrequency in which it's needed is the reason why it became necessary to upgrade to a laser jet.
