What's your latest tech purchase?

you mean 13600k? :p

also tag me wherever you end up posting your results. i am curious if it gains you a couple celsius or not
I have 12600K, 12700K and 13600KF rigs. The first two are Z690 and the last is Z790. The 12600K does 5.3GHz well, the 12700K is a dog and your ex-13600KF is at 5.6GHz using a Liquid Freezer II 280 with Silverstone FHP-141's at full speed (171cfm each).

Round two in my adventures with used data center drives...

20231101_153846.jpg

Picked up a couple of 800GB Samsung 845DC Pro drives for about $60 total.

These drives use 24-layer MLC, use a custom Samsung controller, and have 1GB of LPDDR2 as a DRAM cache.

They really don't make SSDs like they used to. A decent modern 1TB TLC drive will have an endurance of around 600 TBW; these drives have an endurance of 14.6 PBW.

As for how used they are, one had 117 TBW, while the other only had 2 TBW (despite both having around 62,000 hours on them). Their life-remaining numbers were 98% and 99%, respectively.

Performance seems slightly behind a decent modern SATA drive. Not bad for $30.

I'd think that even though they have 7 years of uptime, these drives would continue being reliable for a long time. We'll see.

I actually just ran Crystaldiskmark on my Micron 1100 2TB I got about 5-6 years ago, it only reads 300ish MB now and same on write, it used to read 500 ish and 450ish respectively when I bought it new back then.

so you are correct, they sure don't make them like they used to, that being said I only use it for game backups or games I don't play often, and for that those speeds are still fine and better than HDD at least.

Couple things today! Just had to take pics with them and my 7800 XT and thought I’d share!

First is a used MSI RTX 2080 Ventus 8GB. Scored it on eBay for cheapppp. Passed all stress tests and gaming tests. Solid bargain bin purchase!

Second is a New XFX RX 6800 for a co-workers kids PC upgrade. Just tested it with furmark and Battlefield 2042 to make sure it’s all good to sit under the Christmas tree all the way to Christmas which would be outside the 30 day return window lol. Just a favor for him since he doesn’t do computers.

Are we going to just ignore that 9800GTX+ in the background? :D What's it for?
It’s just for fun to look at by my desk! I don’t have shelves up yet lol. I have another BFG one as well but that’s been opened and tested. Plus a couple new BFG 7900 GT’s, etc.

How are you liking the monitor so far?

Apologies for the late reply. Was half asleep when I posted about the DP cable and LG monitor.

The monitor is good albeit being an older model at this stage. I think it played a lot nicer with my 1080ti before that got replaced due to Gsync but Gsync being an Nvidia thing is always going to play nicer with Nvidia cards anyway.

I've had the monitor for around 5-6months now

Disgusting. I live off of your lack of self control.

nice buy

I also got trolled by Amazon last night.

I couldnt sleep so i checked on the amazon app and it said 'Dispatching soon' then i checked again when i woke up this morning and it said 'Arriving Thursday' - I thought they were gonna do me a solid by shipping it quicker because is pretty obvious to me that they would have been burning through their stock at that price.

stuck with the free delivery option although free delivery has been known two arrive in two days and on a rare occasion 'next day' although next day shipping could have been an error on their part.

I think it will be here before Thursday though. Maybe as early as Tuesday perhaps.

I really think you should have went with a more recent Samsung device, as much as I hate the bloat on Samsung, pretty much all of their phones now come with monthly security updates for 5 years and 4 years of OS updates, pretty sure no other company matches that yet outside of Google Pixel devices. I upgraded from A53 to A54 and the A54 has been flawless, about the 10th every month I get my security update pushed OTA

There is nothing I would want more than an A54. An A54 was my #1 choice but the 256GB version is £330. The A53 is around the same ballpark but even if i dropped down to a 128GB version im still looking at £250-280

I know Motorola arent so great when it comes to rolling out updates but my old Mate 9 is still running Android 9, it runs perfectly and the last security patch for that was in 2021.

Worst case scenario is I update to Lineage OS.

yeah I don't blame you, I was pretty lucky, i got a53 on a good sale on its launch day, it was an ok phone but not great, had some issues with its exynos chipset, but when a54 came out samsung had a special deal where you trade in your a53 for a54 and only like $200 out of pocket (161 quid) and this was direct on samsungs website for an unlocked phone, so I couldn't pass it up. really glad I did it. the a54 is much better than the a53, they fixed a lot of the a53 issues with gyro gps and exynos chipset is a bit better this time around.

having to update things with galaxy store and play store is a bit annoying though, and 90% of the samsung apps i never use... if there is a good trade in offer for pixel 8a when it comes out next year I may get that if i can get it for like 220 or so out of pocket with trade in. that will give me probably 7 years of updates and no bloat. if no good deal though, i will just keep my a54 until its end of life. but the samsung bloat does bother me. its just wasted space and telemetry garbage.

Not to be a dick to you, but does it matter for consumer use cases? If it had only 117TBW despite running for 62000 hours (7 years non-stop) it'll need 16 years of continuous operation for 600TBW and 405 years for 14.6PBW.

Picked up a 14900K and Z790 board today.
Its up and running in my main rig now, my 7950x will likely be replacing the 3900X in my ESXi server (Unless i get lazy, then i may sell it)

Could it be you first tested it before it filled up?

1.92TB SATA SSD MZ-7LM1T90 Samsung 2.5" Enterprise Solid State Drive PM863 6Gbps | eBay

“This is an Enterprise Drive, Not for Home Use."

why would they say that?

Hmm, I don't think that had anything to do with it. 3D Nand SSD's all did pretty well in the 500 read area from what I remember, it's possible you are correct though.

I really can't wait for the 8800x3D to come out, my 5600x3d is def holding me back in some scenarios. Not a bad CPU at all, but looking forward to the upgrade. I get 1.2 down internet, but this MSI mobo limits to 1 gig down, and I want optical on the mobo. I also want better ram, so 8800x3D is really going to be a pretty big upgrade for me, 2.5 LAN port will solve my problem and let me get max allowed, nvme's will work faster, etc etc

I hope 8800x3d comes out in the summer or earlier next year.

It would be in SLC mode when near empty.

And the bargain arrived.
The shopped dropped the price by another $1.50 per card since I ordered the cards and they actually refunded me the difference...

alright ...

tomorow (if lucky ... because i still wait on 2 package since 03.11.2023, all because my etailer switched from the local post to Planzer, which is kinda alike DPD ... aka: what the fudge do they do to take so long to deliver something that would have taken 1-2days via Swiss Post ... ) i am waiting on something really exciting, that i won in an auction for ~250chf (and trust me: totALLY worth it ... *wink wink nudge nudge* )

what's stuck with Planzer? (in a depot merely 30km from my house)
well some extra for my Tello (2 battery plus the Tello will be in total 88chf, the original "boost" bundle, which had the same kind of deal, is still 130chf)
a 7/9 speed SRAM EX1 rear deraileur e-bike spec narrow link, the Shimano Acera i have is wide link and cost 27chf ... the EX1 price shown is not what i paid for :D i paid 21.47chf for it :rockout:
also i have a compatible 8speed 11T-42T cassette on the way too, also because the 5th elemen... aherm i mean, speed gear teeth are kinda worn out ... (checked, normally i can still use the 8 speed Shimano trigger i have, otherwise ... oh well, i am totally not against going all SRAM for the drivetrain gears) and a pair of heavier gloves for the coming winter (12.50chf i would be a fool to not take advantage of that discount, basically i have 3 pairs 2 for summer 1 for winter/summer downhill/trail for the price of one pair )

ok that's some tech and ENOUGH with the bike tech ...
just happened to pass by a nice pair of Scott Volt Boa for 69chf instead of 119.90chf
and because the strenghtened tong it's way more comfortable than my usual allround trekking shoes ... (and totally not because i am a lazy bum and hate normal laces ... ok, maybe i am a lazy bum ... but damn! the Boa system is awesome)
