Finally nailed all the PC part purchases I listed here together yesterday.
Luckily, this time I remembered to benchmark the system before and after the build.

Old - 5800X / 32GB DDR4 @ 4000
New - 7950X / 64GB DDR5 @ 6000
This was just a mobo / CPU / RAM swap, the GPU is still a 4080.

TL;DR = Cinebench multicore score was embiggened from 14700 to 33535!

I don't see that as real big build. But the space in the case gets rapidly small.

Oh. I got some more orders today. The Molex extensions arent any longer available. So i had to cancel them. I substituted them by 4 1:2 Y-extensions with the same length.

And the two D5 Pumps, a top for one and also the Aquaero Pro

Nice. Since that is an I variant you should be able to see your PSU data in HWinfo64. It should come with a USB cable to connect to the MB.

My actual rig is build into a Lian Li O11D XL (Rof Edition). With that case i had a hell of temperature issues. I have the glass panels unmounted and run the system without to keep the system cool. I didn't want to have that risk again at my new build. Also i did read a lot that the SSD's are sharply upfront a thermal throttling. So i decided to have the hot air where i want to have it. Right now there are only a few parts without cooling by water. And they don't heat up the air inside the case that much. So the risk of running into a thermal throttling is quite low. I don't buy that components to be throttled all the times. If one buys a sports car he usually wants to get fast.

Btw. AquaComputer and my second "Dealer" informed me that they sent out my packages (with in german usual DHL). So that packages should reach me on saturday or monday.

Good choice you made, all of these should be tested under Johhny Guru's supervision, can't go wrong there. Sorry, seems I skipped the moment in time where HX1600i is not a (manufacturing) thing anymore? If they are not producing those, time to hunt down the ones available for sale at reasonable prices. Easily the best ATX 2.0+ PSU in existence. Their Shift models are the most appealing ones on the market atm imo.

Made a couple of purchases this holiday season.

I got an ASRock Low Profile Arc A380 for $100 and a 4TB Teamgroup MP34 for about $160.

I mainly got the A380 out of curiosity. I've messed with AV1 encoding and performance in some games.

I've been unable to complete a run of the FFXV benchmark, which annoys me, but it seems to be fine in the few games I tried.

I got the MP34 to see about replacing my RAID0 array. I specifically chose this drive as it lists TLC NAND and a DRAM cache on the product page.

It uses 128-layer TLC NAND from SK Hynix, a Realtek RTS5762 controller, and 128MB of DDR3L from Nanya. Apparently, this drive is a bit of a hybrid between a DRAMless drive and one with DRAM.

Performance is kind of all over the place. In synthetics, it ranges from quite a bit better than the old RAID-0 array to slightly worse, to much worse.

Of course, I did some sustained sequential tests by copying BG3 from my boot drive (2TB WD SN850X)

Before cloning my files.

After cloning.

Very good results that even barely edge out the RAID-0 array, which could sustain around 1.8GB/s.

After the second run, I went a step further by copying CP2077, and it dropped down to around 300-400MB/s after about 50GB. Not great, but it's still better than the last $160 4TB drive I tried, which was QLC-based and would drop to 200MB/s very quickly.

I'll still do some testing to see if it'll be replacing the array. If not, I'll probably use it in an external enclosure.

do polarized glasses even do anything? i thought the cheap ones were mostly bogus tinfoil stuff.

the only way to reduce glare etc is with proper coated lenses?

i wear prescription lenses so i get the best lenses from Crizal (essilor) and they work great!
