I'm using my HAF XB too. Also going to put it in a regular vertical gaming style case. I'm all kinds of worried about how this thing fits too.

I'll be checking with all the RAM I have here.

I'm more worried about 1st slot graphics card clearance.
Wow, that's a much worse fear. I can buy shorter ram, I can't move a PCIe slot!

It sounds interesting, but I'm not one with enough spare time and space to pull things apart to test them with my 5900x.

I do like the idea that the cooler is only 104mm high, that's a nice low height for my CM HAF XB Evo case to allow the top fan plenty of room to be used. Right now I'm waiting on my Noctua NH-U9S to come in so I can swap out the Hyper 212 (which is about half an inch too tall to allow the top fan for the case to be used).

If a testing sample can't be kept by the testers, maybe some other kind of incentive could be had....maybe the company would offer a decent discount for anyone that tested, if they wanted to buy one. Sure, it's not the same as keeping a testing sample, but something is better than nothing.

Yeah a lot of people on the other forum had the high core processors, but not enough spare time. We decided to include them on the list, but lower in the queue, and put the people with more time in higher priority. We also chose team leaders based on who would have the time to get onto testers about getting the testing done and coordinating shipping.

Of course the people that can afford HEDT also tend to be the ones working their tails off 70-80 hours a week to pay for it, lol.

No one who actually has a HEDT and is genuinely interested in playing around with the cooler batted an eye about any kind of compensation though.

I think they already had a discount during the very early development. They have a lot of the project logs available on the website.

FYI there is now a discussion about possibility of paid shipping labels. If that was honestly the main thing holding you up, let me know.

One last question.

If I were to submit for testing, and I were to fill out the form, where does that information go, where is it being used? What is the overall goal here?

Hi,
Wrong but this is coming from people on a unnamed website
Not sure anyone realistically gives time away just for kicks otherwise they'd be giving time and resources away for more worthy causes like folding for covid/..... research and cures.

If I had a higher end processor I’d signup. I love experimenting with wacky coolers like this one!

Good luck with your endeavors and looking forward to the results! I’ve been following this cooler for awhile but agree with your assumption that it’s over the top for most mainstream desktops.

Building a Threadripper 3960x Build in a few days for a client, would have loved to play with that cooler, Sadly I am in Germany, no love for Germany.
Shipping coast would be...steep about 70-100$...

The test should only take you about two hours. I'm sure you spent at least half that time here in this thread already...

Hi,
I was referring to your explanation of why your other forum users on hedt said no
Time wise yeah this is your pet project where as folding for covid/... is a real effort.

Sooooo much more information over there. Seriously consider editing the OP. If you cannot, report it to be opened.

I am not sure what you are afraid of at this point. Copy and paste the info from Overclockers into the OP.
I would hazard to guess, that if the masses at TPU were to read that thread versus how it was brought to us, your time may have been a lot more fruitful from the onset. For some reason you want us all to pull teeth to help you out ;)

OCN makes so much sense... I used to spend all of my time there but started coming to TPU because the forums seemed to thin after the redesign/buyout. Is that forum back to it’s curious, healthy, self? Would love to escape this hell hole lol
Hi,
I haven't seen where he states ocn is the unnamed forum
But do know there are many hedt and 10900k users but also know they too find the terms unacceptable so it would be pretty obvious why the op did not link to this other thread offering this too

As far as ocn in general there is no moderation so pretty much describes the environment in a nutshell.

There's going to be a fresh new thread when testing commences. That one is clustered up because it started out as an idea and grew into fruition.

Honestly I was hesitant to send the invite to this forum in the first place, and the mods here were wise to discuss with W1zzard whether it would even be allowed.

This place is like the lions den of the hardware forums, but I know there are some good people here and I felt like the community deserved the opportunity if they wanted.

Last warning!

Stay on the topic!
Keep it technical!
Stop trolling the thread!

The topic is: "Who owns a high TDP CPU who would like to test a new cooler?"

I cannot argue that. What I meant to say was, had you laid it out, already having the template and info from the other site, I am sure many more may have been eager to help, rather than to go on about off topic stuff like we did in the beginning.

Calm down, have a deep breath, and just try to allow everyone to have a look at everything. I feel the intention here may be good, just rushed, with ideas implied rather than explained. ;)

Hi,
Which brings the question
Why not just offer the cooler to @W1zzard to test and be done with it.
Maybe they already have? I have no idea. I'm just a user like you. Crazyeyesreaper is more than welcome to get in on this but I think his test platform is still either a 6 or 8 core.

I have 3+ TR workstation that I can access that are currently cooled by Noctua U14's TR specific variant. One 1950X, one 2990WX and a 3970X. I will check with the owners. They are under 24x7 CPU intensive workload tho and running on Linux, so not sure if it fits your testing condition

Yeah but you're asking a communities where as W1zzard/ TPU in general is creditable source
Core count wise he knows many reviewers with more than just 8 and lower core chips sure he can muster some 10/... core chips ;)

The lack of visual info here needs a boost. This is Icegiant's web page. Look at the cooler, think about the size before enrolling - it's enormous.

I'm not posting this to help sales, rather to illustrate what is being shipped for testing. Hope @damric is okay with this intervention.

Those would be ideal actually. Linux is fine. We'll find ways to make that work.

Well if he doesn't join our little pass-n-share I do hope he gets one for a professional review.

What about you ThrashZone? Obviously this has garnered your interest? Would you like to get in the list?

Those would be ideal actually. Linux is fine. We'll find ways to make that work.

Well if he doesn't join our little pass-n-share I do hope he gets one for a professional review.

What about you ThrashZone? Obviously this has garnered your interest? Would you like to get in the list?
Hi,
Unfortunately breaking down 2 water loops to test a air cooler is too much work
As you said the test in general is only a couple hours, breaking down and putting back together x299 & z490 is days work.

Well if you change your mind you are welcome to join in. This will probably be going on for many months, and much of that time will be eaten away just waiting for the test kit to ship back and forth.

Seems to me like there has been a big down turn in true hardware enthusiasts from all the hate of these other posts. Just ignore them :)

Well my stepson just handed me the package. It got delivered 1 day early.

I snapped off a couple quick photos just so you can see how big this thing is. That's a Cooler Master TPC-612 next to it (about size of Hyper 212).

It's a monster.

Don't mind my messy desk. I have like 10 other projects going on building and rebuilding the neighborhood kids' rigs.

That is not the production model. The prototype which Linus features on his channel (not a review!!) was made of copper instead of aluminium and had some really odd combo of fans and fin density&depth.

Yeah the first prototype was actually bigger and used delta fans. You can see there's Arctic P120s on the one I just got.

I'll get this mounted on my horizontal test bench tomorrow. I also plan on testing it in a standard vertical gaming case provided I can fit it in there. I'll be sure to document all clearance measurements and issues that might come up.
