@damric - you should contact Ice Giant and propose that those who contribute to this sanctioned testing protocol get a discount on the product. That would show genuine 'payback' and also help with a more positive vendor image. Would also help to quell the naysayers (most of whom have understandable issues).

Wow this went poorly. You're better off sending review samples to reviewers, not home users. They're also used to the requirement of keeping components safe and sending them on to the next reviewer, and act like professionals with it all.

Also home users seem to get cranky if they get paid in T-shirts.

Home users are best when they get to keep the goods, as it earns a lot of goodwill and social media attention. When a products ready for retail, giving a bunch out will make people pay a lot of attention

Not as poorly as you think. I already recruited several users here including 1 staff in just the last 12 hours.

No one is paying anyone to do anything.

Most of the testers in the other forum joined in before t-shirts were even offered.

Some people feel entitled to free hand-outs, but that's not what this is. I don't get to keep this nearly $200 cooler. I get to play around with it for a few hours, then I happily let someone else do the same. I am choosing to do this because I get enjoyment out of overclocking and benchmarking.

This is for fun. Perhaps testing a new cooler isn't fun for everyone. It is for me. It is for those that are joining this endeavor.

There is no corporate conspiracy at play here or money to be made by anyone. Think of this as getting to test drive an expensive sports car but you are required to put gas in it for the next guy.

I'm glad its working for you - i'm just disappointed things went hostile instead of constructive criticism. It is pretty standard for review units to get passed around in the early development stages.

I'll test it, but like really, really crappily. I'll be the low bar, the lowest common denominator.

Some people feel entitled to free hand-outs, but that's not what this is.

And some companies feel entitled for people to test their product for free then expect them to pay to ship it to the next tester.

There is no corporate conspiracy at play here or money to be made by anyone. Think of this as getting to test drive an expensive sports car but you are required to put gas in it for the next guy.

Except that you want people to run specific tests and report the results, and that's not just 'test driving' something. You're flat out incorrect that IceGiant doesn't benefit from this.

Also, it's hardly like an expensive sports car - more like a flatbed truck - it's almost the size of one.

There's plenty of extra blanks on the data spreadsheet for any extra tests you have time to run.

The minimum tests are just long enough to heat the thing up. You can go as long as you want or test it against a fisher price AIO if you want. No one is forcing you to do anything at all. We made the testing procedure, not IceGiant.

I don't see IceGiant here begging you to participate. I don't work for IceGiant, and I'm pretty sure they do not have a rep here because it's just 2 people that even work at the company. Quite the contrary, I asked to borrow a sample to test myself because I was skeptical about how well it would work. My peers were also interested, so I inquired if I was allowed to share. They agreed. Once that was announced, even more people got interested. IceGiant thought that was cool and asked me to get everyone's t-shirt size.

I guess it will never happen, but if you ever need testing done in EU I'd offer to test any cooler on my 10980XE. I love playing with hardware, I don't need compensation and I'd be happy to send it to the next guy at my cost (within EU).

I think a lot of home users would fall into that category, no offense of course.
Well that's why I created a small homework assignment to weed out the pretenders from those who can actually do a seventh grade level science experiment. You would be surprised how many people said they wanted part of this but could not submit to me a simple CPU-z validation with their forum name to prove they had adequate hardware. Then there were also a bunch who had said hardware but were too (trying to think of a nice word)... SPECIAL to figure out how to download AIDA64 and run the FPU test for 20 minutes.

It could happen. That's how we ended up with a Canadian team. You get me at least 5 people here and I'll ask. I know they sent one to the U.K. to extremehw.

Alright guys, if anyone else wants to get in the first wave, send me a P.M. with a CPU-Z validation with your forum handle so I can get you added to the queue.

This will likely go on for many months so late arrivals are welcome. As soon as I get time I'll clean up the O.P. and post all of the links to the relevant test procedures, data templates, instructional videos, ect.
