I just hope that Valve doesn't drop support for 10 like they did 7.
It'll take valve awhile to consider dropping support, they dropped support for 7 at a decent enough time. I'd probably say it'd take 20% or less number of steam users using WIN10 before they finally drop it. Especially considering Windows 10 is more popular than 7 too, comparing their peaks.

i Know it's an Old topic and a lot of thing on windows 11 get there hands on windows 10 too, and the windows 11 is less buggy since the launch,

i have i5 13400 and as you know it's P/E Core intel CPU and in terms of this windows 11 thread scheduler they work better than windows 10, but is it really noticeable?

i watched a lot of Youtube Vid but i want to know the real answer.
Do you need to use the PC for gaming? If not then you could install Linux and install Windows 10 or 11 in a Virtual Machine provided your PC is beefy enough.

Valve dropped W7 14 years after launch, I'd say it's fair. Less than 1 % used it by then. Windows mainstream support ended 9 years earlier.

If the same happened to W10 it would be in 2029, but I'm not so sure about that. W10 just gained, again.

Also this,

W7 usage after almost 10 years: 27 %
W10 usage after almost 10 years: 54 %

I wonder what kind of tricks MS will come up with to change that lol

Valve should learn there is no linux, Steam is a ubuntu "gnu/linux" binary. Its Kernel and gnu userspace. And the steam binary in gnu gentoo linux was ~3 months ago still full with duplicate ubuntu binaries. the usually gnu linux user want to avoid binaries. That's why windows 11 pro for gaming. That is before gaming performance, disk size and other paramter taken into account.

I have used Windows 11 from the get go. It has been rough as I have had to install it fresh several times. This is nothing new as earlier versions of Windows also needed frequent clean installs.

11. I don't see any reason to use an OS which is soon out of support.

I have a strong flashback from the times when people still held on with XP and later with 7...

i Know it's an Old topic and a lot of thing on windows 11 get there hands on windows 10 too, and the windows 11 is less buggy since the launch,

i have i5 13400 and as you know it's P/E Core intel CPU and in terms of this windows 11 thread scheduler they work better than windows 10, but is it really noticeable?

i watched a lot of Youtube Vid but i want to know the real answer.
After reading some of the comments in this thread(some of which were as amusing as they are misguided), decided to chime in and offer my 2 cents.

My experience with Windows 11 has been the same as any other version of Windows since XP, one of serious customizations and debloating. Since XP using Windows in it's default state is, and I'm not exaggerating here, foolish. Windows 11 is very similar to Windows 10 in the fact that it requires a large amount of debloating, tweaking and other forms of modification to be acceptable to anyone who cares about serious security and to meet my personal standards of usability. Fortunately, these customizations are as easy to do as they are perfectly safe.

They(microsoft) chose(wisely) to return to a better UI design language, it is much better than Windows 8/8.1 or 10 ever were. The location and method of use for critical functions are much better and more smooth then 10. They also make more sense. There are, naturally, some irritations that go along with any changes made, but IMPO, they are far fewer and far less annoying than with 10.

The most important upsides are that it's underlying technological advancements make it a very significant step above Windows 10, especially with the latest enhancements to kernel and code base security which 10 will never get. The down sides are the infernal hardware requirements, which to people like myself, are completely unacceptable. Fortunately, microsoft will(again wisely) continue to leave those limitations bypassable.

At the end of the day I find Windows 11, in the state I configure it, to be a delight to use and because of that I am very happy with it. I would sooner(and happily?) go back to Windows 7 or abandon the Windows platform altogether than to ever use Windows 10 again.

If you choose to give 11 a go and want to tips for getting the most out of it, come over to the Windows 11 Discussion thread and chime in. I and many others would be happy to help. There is also the web site called Eleven Forums which is a wonder resource for Windows 11 specific info, tweaks and customizations. Like everywhere on the net, careful who's advice you takeover there(or even here). Mr Brink and his staff(all of whom are clearly defined) are safe sources of info some of the users however are not to be trusted(looking at you Kari). Blink themselves created many of the articles I used with every install of 11 I perform on my systems and those of my family.

10 ofc.
11 is bloatware garbage
in 11 scheduler work worse than 10, check tech yes city. he busts this sheduler garbage myths
Just NO as it's about to run out of support this year
maybe if you're running Home but certainly not when it's Pro (and anywho you can uninstall all of the bloat in home quite easily anyway so it not such a problem)
since Windows 24H2 that's been fixed

that is your opinion. I shared lots of screenshots of a buggy as hell windows 11 pro 24h2 with an offline user and without the microsoft online account.

You may also check pcgh - they have also pages over pages over pages about windows 11 issues regularly in german language. Average at least one topic per month which is really a big issue for windows 11. I think it should be 2 or more posts average tehre per month

I only use windows 11 pro 24h2 for gaming. I think I would find much more stuff which is buggy when I would use it for productivity.

I tried Windows 11 and ended up going back to Windows 10. Windows 11 is very slow in every way.
Same, i tried 11 for three weeks in January and went back to 10.

11 has terrible stuttering in games.

I would recommend 11 from a pure security perspective. Windows 10 is going out of support in October after which it won't receive updates unless you pay an annual fee.

Running an unpatched OS connected to the internet, even when you're not hosting anything, can be dangerous. That's how we end up with botnets!

I'm aware that Windows 11's user experience is considered a lot worse but unfortunately unless you find a way to get one of the LTSB versions of 10, as a consumer you're kinda stuck if you want to compute "properly".

Even if you can't get LTSC iot, Windows 10 is a mature OS and there's near zero risk running without updates if you have decent up to date antivirus and an updated browser. Windows 11 updates / new code is arguably much more dangerous, because the flaws in it haven't been discovered yet, much more likely to get zero day bugs / malware that exploits flaws from the new code in the updates!

As we saw with Xp, if a real threat to the OS does emerge. like eternal blue, MS are going to patch you anyway even if support has finished...

This is the kind of view MS want to push, because they want people to go on to 11...

I think Windows 10 is skewed upwards because a LOT of user agent and version spoofers, as well as the kernel extensions report Windows 10. Even Windows 11 does under many circumstances, so yea

Like many others have said, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 (with StartIsBack/Open Shell to get rid of that horrendous Start Menu) is your best choice.

Maybe, but it's also technically piracy. Now if you buy an LTSC license, that's is legit to use, but the LTSC IoT version requires specific licensing that you can't buy publicly(currently?).

I have the same dilemma as OP. I don't like upgrading, mostly because Win 10 works pretty well for me and it's overall a hassle to migrate. On the flipside, perhaps there are some benefits to a newer OS, especially in gaming (even if tiny atm).
Some questions:
-I run Win 10 right now. Can I install Win 11 on one of my NVMs to try it out, and just change boot order in BIOS? Will it interfere with Win 10 install?
-is there a certified, current method to avoid the stupid sign-in with MS account requirement?
-forum people swear by the LTSC but I read elesewhere some games might not like it? I'm not that bothered by "bloat" or updates, etc, because I'm pretty sure I can handle it all with some 3rd party tools (atm simplewall takes care of all the spying and forced updates)

1) Yes you can. It SHOULDN'T interfere with your Win10 install since the Win11 is getting its own disk and by proxy, bootloader, but I would honestly unplug the Windows 10 disk just to be safe until your install is complete. After that they'll run independent of each other.
2) Sure is, the steps are basically:
  1. Install Windows 11.
  2. When you're at the first-time setup screen, disable any networking.
  3. Open a Command Prompt window with Shift+F10 (you may have to alt-tab to see it).
  4. In the command prompt window, enter: OOBE /BYPASSNRO
  5. Wait for it to reboot back to the first-time setup screen.
  6. Proceed as normal, selecting "I don't have internet" when prompted. This will let you set up a local account.
  7. Once you're at the desktop, reconnect to your network and continue setting up as normal.
3) Unless you can get a hold of LTSC legally, I wouldn't run it. Its meant for enterprise systems with enterprise licensing, cracks can often cause issues with Windows stability and as you said, some games may not like it because the underlying plumbing isn't getting the same feature updates as a retail copy of Windows. You really are just better off installing retail Windows 11 and customizing it to your liking.

don't worry about security if you are not exposing your PC as a server to the internet.

and in case you are worried

I love the disclaimer the video starts with. 'Nobody is going to target you anyway, you're safe with an exposed OS'

Instant disqualification, that. If you want to run your stuff like that (probably the same system you save your backups, photo's, might do some banking on... etc) be my guest.

I'll take the 91 out of 591 Fortnite FPS I lose on 1080p low which I'll never play for granted. Thanks.
For everyone else, Windows 10 ftw. Why not go back to 7 while you're at it. We're 7 months away from EOL, might as well do it right. I'm sure Fortnite might hit the magical 600 FPS barrier then. Maybe you should run some XP based FTP server alongside it in a VM for good measure - nobody wants your PC or your data anyway.

Also, I'm curious what frames you get relative to Windows 10, when you run 11 LTSC IoT Edition with all the online functionalities (and more importantly: copilot related services) disabled. Because I haven't been running into a single issue ever and I play a wide variety of games. When I run latencymon I can score equal to or better than a system running 10 in the same app.

I don't use cracks, You can get(edit: buy) cd keys for enterprize, but for testing You can just instal and the watermark logo is not scalable between resolutions, in 3k it is just a small text on bottom right conrer of the screen.
And in windows 10 ltsc it was possible to instal microsoft store, but some games need 21h2 if You wanna to play them. (Windows store games are pain in the ...., cause microsoft is creating folder that is very problematic to delete or change, I've formatted my ssd i gues 3 or 4 times just to get rid of this stupid folder).
Edit2: In European Union it is permitable to buy and sell cd keys, You just need to desactivate when selling, and the seller needs to desactivate it before selling. (C-128/11 from EU Court)

You sure can. Just unplug all other drives before installing Windows 11 to that spare drive.
Once the install is finished, reconnect your other drives and select your boot order in the BIOS as usual.
is there a certified, current method to avoid the stupid sign-in with MS account requirement?
Certified? What do you mean? Regardless, there are a couple confirmed working methods you can use.
forum people swear by the LTSC but I read elesewhere some games might not like it?
That is incorrect if you use GOG, Steam or Epic. Games and whatnot from those stores run perfectly fine. If you want to use XBox however, yeah, that's a problem.

Unless you can get a hold of LTSC legally, I wouldn't run it.
LTSC IoT? Sure, I'll go along with that. It's iffy. However, normal LTSC is fine.

I don't use cracks, You can get(edit: buy) cd keys for enterprize, but for testing You can just instal and the watermark logo is not scalable between resolutions, in 3k it is just a small text on bottom right conrer of the screen.
If done right the watermark doesn't show at all. There's no excuse for not doing it right.
And in windows 10 ltsc it was possible to instal microsoft store
Why would you want too? The whole point of using LTSC on a personal PC is to be sans all the crap and fluff of a normal consumer install, including the ms store.
