System Name Not so complete or overkill - There are others!! Just no room to put! :D
Processor Ryzen Threadripper 3970X
Motherboard Asus Zenith 2 Extreme Alpha
Cooling Lots!! Dual GTX 560 rads with D5 pumps for each rad. One rad for each component
Memory Viper Steel 4 x 16GB DDR4 3600MHz not sure on the timings... Probably still at 2667!! :(
Video Card(s) Asus Strix 3090 with front and rear active full cover water blocks
Storage I'm bound to forget something here - 250GB OS, 2 x 1TB NVME, 2 x 1TB SSD, 4TB SSD, 2 x 8TB HD etc...
Display(s) 3 x Dell 27" S2721DGFA @ 7680 x 1440P @ 144Hz or 165Hz - working on it!!
Case The big Thermaltake that looks like a Case Mods
Audio Device(s) Onboard
Power Supply EVGA 1600W T2
Mouse Corsair thingy
Keyboard Razer something or other....
VR HMD No headset yet
Software Windows 11 OS... Not a fan!!
Benchmark Scores I've actually never benched it!! Too busy with WCG and FAH and not gaming! :( :( Not OC'd it!! :(
I would give you a 3770K and a Z77 OCFormula for that :toast:

Shipping might suck though.. bonus points for Original box :D
In my head and mind, that is just such an awesome combo!! :D That's of course got nothing to do with the fact I have the same motherboards and I think I have one of those CPUs too!! :D

Love the X58!! :D My 920 never played well with more RAM, even when trying to go from 6GB to 12GB, it was a pain.. Might have been the board or the CPU as it wasn't a Xeon but :) X58 lives on!!

Why? What do you do more of, gaming or power-user workloads?
Neither really.. :D

I game at 3840x2160 60fps, or 2160x1440 at 60fps, so I don't really see all that cache benefit, maybe its because of my GPU? Or it could be the tune I run on my 5900X? There is a large difference between 4450MHz and 5100MHz too, and I don't think the reviewers do that kind of tuning for reviews?

I wont sell the chip, I do like it because I can run it semi passively, and its still 8 cores so its still sort of quick. Who knows, its Friday and the chip has been installed for about 24 hours now, I may go back to the X3D by the end of the weekend.. but I am almost out of Ceramique so maybe not, we will see

At 60fps you didn't even need to get rid of the 3600XT lol, more so than a new GPU, just going beyond a 60Hz screen is the real life-changing factor :)

Not getting a chance to stretch its legs - justice for @freeagent's 5800X3D!

Got this laptop Monday, but was super busy all week at work:

Asus Strix Scar 16, Specs are i9 13980HX, RTX 4090, 32GBs DDR5, 2TBs RAID 0 SSD and 2560x1600 Mini LED Nebula HDR display.

Previously bought the Gigabyte Aorus 17X but I returned before opening it as the display, CPU, and many other specs were not nearly as good as the ones in the Asus, this laptop is also more portable, making it easier to travel with.

So far, the performance blows my previous 3080 laptop out of the water, being anywhere between 60 to 100% faster in terms of CPU and GPU performance, this is a beast of a system, really hard to believe how far laptops have come in a couple of years since I bought my previous laptop:
20230310_112238.jpg

20230310_110422.jpg

This is right out the box, on turbo settings, this laptop is just as fast, or even faster than my previous 3090/12900K desktop, I find it hard to believe the performance on tap for such a small form factor.

Good grief! That is impressive for a 16" laptop.
Which reminds me. I just did a wipe on my primary storage due to indications of corruption messing with File Explorer. Interestingly, File Explorer showed no lag on this drive initially, but slowly developed over the course of a few months to the point of being ridiculous. However, at 4.7 GB, it's over half full, though I have some space to clear from OBS-recording DVDs (Handbrake doesn't like my system, picture thermal imaging displaying in different colors and patterns of plaid and QR codes). So I'm wondering if first, this lag is due to the drive being slower at mid-to-full capacity (it is a 256GB cache, but that might not matter for that situation), and second, my CBR23 benches post-wipe are Multi-Core 21539 - Single Core 1592.

Is this up to snuff? I remember CBR23 showing my system's ranking at 80-85% the performance of a newer Xeon, supposedly with twice the cores and threads. 5900X, auto PBO settings, other specs are in my profile.

However that's ~4000 bucks on your lap.....
Not quite, fortunately I was able to pre order at MSRP before scalpers bought all the initial stock and started selling for way over $4K. As always, I expect prices to normalize once more stock hits the channel.

Good grief! That is impressive for a 16" laptop.
Thank you, I agree, Asus did not compromise with the cooling performance for the 16" version, and its performance is really within spitting distance of the Scar 18, in a smaller package and with a better display.

When you think about, it's crazy to be able pack this amount of compute power in a backpack.

With those specs, that sounds about right.

I don't know that I'd agree with that. I'd rather have the larger display, but that's just my personal preference.

Yes, you're right, I also like more screen real estate, and was hesitant to get the bigger model when deciding on a new laptop to replace my 15.6" laptop, and while I agree a bigger display is more desirable in most situations, it's not just the display size that differentiates both models, the specs are very different.

The Scar 18 lacks the mini LED HDR display found in the 16, meaning a much lower contrast ratio, with the mini LED black levels approaching the ones found in oled screens.

The display in the Scar 18 tops at less than half the brightness in the display for this model (1100nits vs 500nits in the 18) and has a lower color gamut.

One more thing to consider is the bigger laptop is almost 2 pounds heavier, for only a few percent better performance, and I would've needed a bigger backpack to lug it around, a problem when bringing a bigger laptop in flights, and one of the reasons I decided to return the 17" Aorus :p

I must admit though, playing games and watching media on a bigger screen is more immersive :rockout:

I can live with that. I'm not super picky about what tech a display uses so long as it performs well and looks good.

It really is. With system like that, it's quite literally a desktop replacement. Add to it a 27" or larger monitor or TV and you have an excellent system both at home and on the go.

Just replaced the CPU RM1 cooler with a Noctua NH-U9S and the Gigabyte RX6650 XT OC video card with a ASRock RX 6750 XT Phantom Gaming D OC. It runs really well since this is the first PC that I have built in 16 years (2008).
