Targus, a leader in laptop cases and mobile computing accessories, today announced the availability of two new Thunderbolt 3 docks, equipped with Thunderbolt speed for high-resolution graphics to meet the powerful demands of creative professionals and studios. "We've designed our DOCK215 and DOCK222 to meet the demanding needs of professional content creators," says David Dorantes, director of product marketing, Targus. "With features like Thunderbolt 3 speed, up to 8K resolution, dual-monitor support, and a compact design, both docks enable creatives to stay connected, powered, and productive."

AOC and Porsche Design Launches Agon Pro PD32M Mini-LED Display

AOC has launched a new gaming monitor under its Agon Pro brand and the PD32M has been designed in cooperation with Porsche Design, which for clarity's sake, isn't the same company as the car manufacturer. The PD32M is based on a "frameless" 32-inch 4K 144 Hz capable mini-LED display and carries a Display HDR 1400 certification, with a peak brightness of 1600 nits. It is also said to deliver 97 percent of the DCI-P3 colour space, which would make it a decent display for work as well as play. The display also supports Adaptive Sync, but it's unclear if it's FreeSync or G-Sync compatible.

On the connectivity side there are a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort, presumably of the 1.4 variety, one USB-C, although no mention of display input via USB-C is mentioned, as well as a USB-C four USB-A 3.2 (most likely 10 Gbps) ports and a headphone jack. Based on the picture of the rear of the PD32M, there also appears to be a couple of additional 3.5 mm jacks and another port of unknown type around the back. It's also clear from this picture that an external power brick is being used, although AOC hasn't provided any details about it.

Dell Launches Pair of New 32-inch Gaming Monitors

Dell has launched a pair of very similar looking 32-inch gaming monitors, but looks can be deceiving as they say. The two models are the G3223Q and G3223D, with the G3223Q sporting a 4K 144 Hz Fast IPS panel, with the G3223D also using a Fast IPS panel, but dropping the resolution to 2560 x 1440 while upping the refresh rate to 165 Hz. The G3223D is only rated for HDR 400, while the G3223Q gets HDR 600 support, although both appear to be edge-lit panels. Other common features include a 1 ms response time (grey-to-grey), a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a 95 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Both monitors support AMD FreeSync, but the G3223D is also NVIDIA G-Sync certified. As far as connectivity goes, the G3223D offers a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports, a DP 1.4 port, a USB-C port with DP-Alt mode and 15 W power delivery, as well as two downstreams USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The G3223Q on the other hand has a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports, one DP 1.4 port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) Type-B port, as well as two downstreams USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a headphone jack. Both displays come with stands that support height, swivel and tilt adjustment. Dell is asking for US$719.99 for the G3223D, which is available from today in most markets and US$1,099.99 for the G3223Q which will be available at the end of this month in most markets.

LG Debuts First 2022 Cinebeam Laser Projectors

LG Electronics USA announced the debut of its 2022 LG CineBeam 4K laser projector (models HU715Q and HU710P), the company's most advanced projectors to date. The new LG HU715Q Ultra Short Throw (UST) features sophisticated technologies including auto brightness and the ability to create a 100-inch image when placed only 21.7 centimeters from the wall, delivering stellar picture quality in a flexible, space-conscious design. The LG HU710P, a notable upgrade to its predecessor, delivers brighter images and deeper blacks courtesy of a wheel-less hybrid laser. The HU710P (SRP $2,499) and HU715Q (SRP $2,999) are available now.

The new CineBeam projectors are excellent choices for consumers looking to create their very own private cinemas with immersive, large-scale images that can be projected directly onto the wall or a dedicated screen. Compact and easy to set up, both models are suitable for most indoor spaces and also look great in backyards after the sun has set. Perfect for film buffs looking to add something special to their décor, the LG HU715Q has been thoughtfully designed with a premium fabric cover courtesy of Danish textile company, Kvadrat to harmonize with home furnishings and interiors.

BenQ Launches 4K HDR Gaming Projector

BenQ has launched a new, quirky projector and this time the company is targeting gamers. The X3000i as the model is known as, is a 4LED DLP projector that claims to have low input lag. Although it supports 4K, this is only at 60 Hz, but it has two different 1080p gaming modes that support either 240 Hz with a 4.16 ms input lag or 120 Hz with an 8 ms input lag. It sports a total of three HDMI 2.0b ports, of which the third, hidden port is occupied by an HDMI dongle that adds "smart" features to the projector. It's the QS01 dongle that we've seen before from BenQ, but it has been updated to Android 10. Other connectivity consists of a single USB Type-A 2.0 port that can deliver 2.5 A, an RS232 serial port, a DC 12 V trigger jackm, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack and an optical S/PDIF out. One of the accessible HDMI ports supports eARC and the X3000i has a pair of integrated speakers that delivers a not too powerful 10 W audio output.

The projector can be ceiling mounted and also comes with a pair of extra feet that are apparently used when mounting the projector upside down. BenQ has included a 1.3x zoom option that can reduce the throw distance and the X3000i can produce a 120-inch image with a three metre throw distance. There are three different brightness settings, with a maximum brightness of 3000 lumens and the contrast ratio with lightsource dimming enabled is 500,000:1, although BenQ doesn't mention the default contrast ratio. There are also multiple different image presets for RPG, FPS and sports games. This is not some little dinky portable projector though, as it weighs in at 6.4 kg and has a typical power consumption of 330 W. It's also not cheap at US$1,999/€1,899, but if it delivers on its promised specs, it should at least be competitively priced.

Cooler Master Unveils its First mini LED Displays with Quantum Dot Technology

It would appear that high-end displays are all the rage this year and Cooler Master has just joined the fray with the GP27-FUS and the GP27-FQS, a pair of mini LED based displays. Both models sport Quantum Dot technology which helps enhance the colour gamut of the displays. Cooler Master claims to support 100 percent Adobe 97 percent DCI-P3 and 83 percent BT2020 coverage, which should make these displays great for both work and play, if you're after a colour accurate display.

The main difference between the two models is that the GP27-FQS sports an Innolux AAS panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, whereas the GP27-FUS has an AHVA panel from AUO with a 3840 x 2160 resolution. The GP27-FQS offers a refresh rate of 165 Hz, with the GP27-FUS trailing slightly behind at 160 Hz, but they have a common 1 ms response time. Both displays feature HDR1000 certification, with SDR brightness of up to 600 nits and peak HDR brightness of up to 1200 nits. Other features included are low blue light, anti-flicker and overdrive technology.

Dell Launches new 4K UltraSharpScreens with IPS Black Technology

Dell has revealed a pair of new 4K UltraSharp Screens using LG Display's IPS Black technology, which is said to deliver 35 percent deeper blacks than current IPS displays. Even though that is the headline feature, it might actually be the least interesting aspect of the 27-inch U2723QE and 32-inch U3223QE displays, as they pack a host of other useful features, as long as you're looking for a new productivity monitor.

Both models pack a six-port USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) USB hub, with the main USB-C upstreams port being capable of delivering 90 Watts of power over USB-PD, as well as supporting DP 1.4 Alt Mode. The USB hub also works in KVM mode, which seems to be becoming a standard feature on a lot of higher-end displays these days. The single downstreams USB 3.2 Gen 2 port is limited to a mere 15 W and there's also a second USB 3.2 Gen 2 upstream port that is only for USB data signals. Traditional display inputs include an HDMI port, presumably of the 2.0 variety, a DP 1.4 input, as well as an output for display daisy chaining, a feature we don't see too often on non Dell displays. Finally there's an RJ45 for hardwired network of a "docked" notebook, plus a 3.5 mm audio jack for audio output.

Intel and Windows 11 Deprecating SGX Breaks 4K Blu-ray Playback

It took a while for this discovery as it's probably rare for people with modern PCs to also have Blu-ray optical drives. Apparently PCs with Intel 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake," and older 11th Gen Core "Rocket Lake" processors, as well as the latest Windows 11 OS, are unable to playback protected 4K Blu-ray video discs, as the DRM component is broken in the absence of Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX). Intel introduced SGX with 6th Gen Core "Skylake," and deprecated it with "Rocket Lake." To be clear, playback of Blu-ray discs at 1080p isn't affected.

CyberLink, makers of the PowerDVD software that's bundled as an OEM application with optical drives to play back protected Blu-ray video; put out a statement on its website confirming that they're unable to help with this situation, as they don't control the DRM, the Blu-ray Association does. "The removal of the SGX feature, and its compatibility with the latest Windows OS and drivers, has caused a substantial challenge for CyberLink to continue supporting Ultra HD Blu-ray movie playback in our player software," it stated. Just to clarify, this only affects playback of Blu-Ray content at 4K—1080p is not affected.

Many Thanks to Steevo for the tip.
