Dell has revealed a pair of new 4K UltraSharp Screens using LG Display's IPS Black technology, which is said to deliver 35 percent deeper blacks than current IPS displays. Even though that is the headline feature, it might actually be the least interesting aspect of the 27-inch U2723QE and 32-inch U3223QE displays, as they pack a host of other useful features, as long as you're looking for a new productivity monitor.

Both models pack a six-port USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) USB hub, with the main USB-C upstreams port being capable of delivering 90 Watts of power over USB-PD, as well as supporting DP 1.4 Alt Mode. The USB hub also works in KVM mode, which seems to be becoming a standard feature on a lot of higher-end displays these days. It took a while for this discovery as it's probably rare for people with modern PCs to also have Blu-ray optical drives. Apparently PCs with Intel 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake," and older 11th Gen Core "Rocket Lake" processors, as well as the latest Windows 11 OS, are unable to playback protected 4K Blu-ray video discs, as the DRM component is broken in the absence of Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX). Intel introduced SGX with 6th Gen Core "Skylake," and deprecated it with "Rocket Lake." To be clear, playback of Blu-ray discs at 1080p isn't affected.

CyberLink, makers of the PowerDVD software that's bundled as an OEM application with optical drives to play back protected Blu-ray video; put out a statement on its website confirming that they're unable to help with this situation, as they don't control the DRM, the Blu-ray Association does. "The removal of the SGX feature, and its compatibility with the latest Windows OS and drivers, has caused a substantial challenge for CyberLink to continue supporting Ultra HD Blu-ray movie playback in our player software," it stated. ASUS has today announced two new 4K OLED gaming monitors during their ROG CES 2022 livestream with the ROG Swift OLED PG48UQ/PG42UQ. The two models measuring 42-inches and 48-inches feature a 120 Hz refresh rate with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 0.1 ms GTG response time. The OLED panels cover 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and are cooled with a custom heatsink and internal thermal layout. TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co have recently announced plans to release a 4K 32-inch 240 Hz curved panel for use in gaming monitors at the Global Display Tech-Ecosystem Conference (DTC 2021). This new panel would be the fastest available in any 4K gaming monitor, while details are limited the 32" UD 240Hz R800 Gaming Display is expected to include 1 ms response times and a proprietary image compression algorithm. The monitor is unlikely to be sold directly by TCL as the company usually sells unbranded monitors to OEMs for customization such as with their current 144 Hz 4K monitors. The pricing and availability details were also not announced by TCL so it could be some time until you can purchase one of these monitors.

Santa Monica Studio, a video game developer, seated in Los Angeles and owned by PlayStation Studios, is the creator of the highly successful game God of War. Today, the company announced that they would be releasing a God of War port for PC owners, entering a whole new market. The PC port of the game will allow thousands of players to enjoy the story of Kratos and his adventures with a considerable boost to graphics. According to a company announcement, the PC port will allow fine-tuning of graphics settings, including a range of new technologies to back it.

Some essential upgrades over the console port include native 4K rendering and an unlimited frame rate. The company stated that the ambient occlusion pipeline had been upgraded with GTAO and SSDO tech, creating unique visuals. In addition to that, the game will feature support for NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Reflex low-latency technology. For controllers, the game will feature support for Sony's DualSense and DualShock4 controllers. And last but not least, ultrawide gamers are in luck as well, as the game will support a 21:9 aspect ratio. The game is going to be available on January 14, 2022, on the Steam storefront.
