CyberLink Launches PowerDVD 22, Putting User Experience at the Core of Blu-Ray, DVD, 4K HDR, and YouTube Playback

CyberLink Corp., announced today the release of PowerDVD 22, the latest version of its award-winning movie and media playback software which lets users enjoy an immersive experience for movies, music, and YouTube. The software plays movies in 8K, 4K HDR Blu-ray, and a wide range of media formats across any PC, laptop, TV, tablet or phone. PowerDVD 22 builds on CyberLink's pioneering media technology by offering exciting new features that offer users more control and customization options. Users can tailor their experience to match their preferences, for example, deeper colors, better lighting, and enhanced audio, such as high-fidelity 7.1 surround sound.

PowerDVD 22 includes a new keep pitch algorithm that maintains audio quality at the highest level during slow-speed playback, ideal for honing in on a video's most intricate details without a distorted soundtrack. PowerDVD 22 optimizes playback between devices. New tools allow users to trim and extract any section of their media's video or audio and convert them into smartphone-friendly formats. This includes MP4 for video and AAC or MP3 for audio. PowerDVD 22 also boasts faster transcode and uploading times, faster playback, and thumbnail generation on any part of the play bar for easy media skimming.
Enjoy YouTube like never before with PowerDVD 22. Next-generation TrueTheater enhancements enrich YouTube videos with deeper colors, better lighting, and enhanced audio, no matter the original's resolution - even 4K. Enjoy all-new matched playback speed controls, the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe within PowerDVD, and search capabilities by both channels and playlists.

"Recognized as the world's number one movie and media player, PowerDVD has a long innovation history, pioneering multimedia features over and again, to the joy of our millions of users," said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. "In addition to new playback tuning options and an even friendlier user interface, we are happy to announce that PowerDVD 22 also adds exciting features to let users take complete control of their media, movies, and YouTube content experience."

PowerDVD 22 provides an unparalleled playback experience. New additions include a specialized home function that lets users instantly access their currently played, recently played, and recently added media - all in one place. The program emphasizes precision controls, fast playback, and a lightning-quick response when streaming or watching YouTube. Users can enjoy convenient search functions and filters, including separated music, movie and photo playlists, the ability to access YouTube videos directly with an URL, and an integrated media manager which automatically organizes an entire library of photos, videos, music, and Blu-ray/DVD movies.

Product Availability
PowerDVD 22 is available in a variety of subscription and perpetual options and is available for purchase from CyberLink's online store.

And it still only lets me watch 4k UHD on a last-gen Intel processor with serious security concerns? Pass.

I am surprised that Cyberlink still exists and so is their PowerDVD. I used to use PowerDVD, but with Bluray, it was a pain to use. There are a lot of compatibility issues and software tends to not run play Bluray properly. In the end, I ditched PC as a Bluray player, and got a PS4 and subsequently an Xbox One X to be used as a Bluray player.

PC running blurays is a nightmare. Constant incompatibility. Easier to rip them than to play them natively... gg sony.

Why is it so difficult to play blueray on PC. Maybe they want us to pirate the content rather than buy the disk.

I haven’t had any issues with Blu-ray on PC and it applies all the effects like true motion, sharpening, noise reduction, artifact removal, etc…

That being said I spent a good amount of time working through codecs and apps like shark007 to get everything setup I like it.

Streaming from my PC to our other TVs is still a little glitchy through cyberlink sometimes, but anything local over HDMI is flawless.

I for one use DVD for hard backup on ceramic disks, and only for the most valuable personal things. Work related stuff is tape (still). So, what DVD?

Uhm, the same MPC-HC not in development since 2017?

Cyberlink also does video editing software that a lot of people like youtubers & content creators use (power director/director suite) so i guess they are still making money on that front to keep the company alive.

PowerDVD 17 - I think that's the version I picked up years ago. About once a year there's some update to install for it and I haven't had any issues running blu-ray movies on it on my PC. I rarely just watch off the disc because I tend to rip it and put the movie on my Plex server. When I do run a video and it launches through PowerDVD I don't have any issues with it. The only real reason I got a copy of this was so I could run blu-ray movies on my PC if I wanted to.

I've never been bothered enough to look at the other 2 or 3 programs that came with it....one appeared to be some kind of picture and/or video editing software. I'm not even sure what the other 1 or 2 programs do. Oh well. Good to see they're still active as a company.

I never paid the upgrades. IF the full version wasn't included, I didn't use it.

MPC-Black Edition is going along just fine.

zlobbySike! Couldn't they just fix their website?
They have a github site instead.
github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/
"Due to a lack of active developers, the player is currently in maintenance mode. This means that there are no direct plans for adding any big new features. Development is currently limited to small bug fixes and updates."
The project is still going, just not like before. Mostly focusing on maintenance and fixes.

MPC-Black Edition (MPC-BE) is the actual project that tries to compete with other video players like Potplayer and VLC. Still, I couldn't find a video player that can play all the videos I have like PotPlayer and VLC (The dev of Potplayer is one of KMplayer devs which got ridden by bloat and sometimes malware). PotPlayer is my main media player because I need the 1,5x zoom function while VLC doesn't have. And I find it able to play even rare audio files . Anything I throw at PotPlayer from video or audio plays well except the new google video format VP9 which then I use VLC for.

sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/
potplayer.daum.net/

There is also another video player that rivals MPC-BE
Media Player Classic Qute Theater (MPC-QT)
MPC-QT project stopped long time ago then it got revived again!
I still haven't used it personally but I have along with my free apps library.
github.com/mpc-qt/mpc-qt

EDIT:
forgot to add QMPlay2
github.com/zaps166/QMPlay2
QMPlay2 is a video and audio player. It can play all formats supported by FFmpeg, libmodplug (including J2B and SFX). It also supports Audio CD, raw files, Rayman 2 music and chiptunes. It contains YouTube and MyFreeMP3 browser.

That quality is so far below an actual 4k UHD blu-ray as to not even be relevant to the conversation.

Kodi and VLC. Together they cover 100% of my needs.

That's good! I still try to un-watch some, for example 'Space Jam 2' and 'Matrix 4'...

Other than the fact that your assertion is deeply flawed? How about YOU explain what "last-gen Intel processor" you're refering to, then explain what you mean by "serious security concerns" and last why any of that would apply to playing a movie disc..

You need SGX to play 4k UHD. Intel deprecated SGX and they're not available on current-gen processors. They did so due to numerous security flaws with the instruction set.

A 5-second Googling turns up this nice summary.

Now please explain how any of what I've said is "deeply flawed".

PCLThat quality is so far below an actual 4k UHD blu-ray as to not even be relevant to the conversation.
Well, if you're talking about like Netflix, you're probably watching compressed UHD content at possibly an even way lower resolution such as 720p cap if you're using Chrome. Gotta use a TV or Edge to get it up to UHD even... Netflix being the garbage it is.

Though, even at full quality it still lacks the typical HDR you get on UHD Blu-Ray, which is a nice bonus considering one to have a half-fancy VA panel TV that boasts decent HDR like the Sony I have here...

however, throwing all that aside... it's all CD media and horribly overpriced at that...

sorry cyberlink but too many free options that can do more with less frustration.

imo, you're not worth the bandwidth to pirate anymore. just stick w/power director.
