ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Swift Pro PG248QP, featuring an innovative FHD (1920 x 1080) 540 Hz (OC) Esports-TN (E-TN) panel for the smoothest and clearest visuals ever. It's the fastest gaming monitor available today and is up to 50% more responsive than traditional TN panels. The PG248QP boasts numerous features that will appeal to esports gamers, including NVIDIA G-SYNC Ultra Low Motion Blur 2 (ULMB 2) technology for supersmooth visuals, the NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer for measuring system latency, and a unique base with retractable claws to free up more desktop space for a keyboard and mouse.

It wasn't just AUO that had high-end gaming notebook panels on display at Touch Taiwan, as InnoLux also had a pair of interesting models that the company was showing off. The smaller model of the two was a 14-inch LTPS (Low-Temperature PolySilicon) panel with 2560 x 1600 resolution with a brightness of 500 cd/m². It features a VRR range of 30 to 120 Hz, which seems ideally suited for a gaming notebook, since they tend to have weaker GPUs that are likely to drop below the typical 48 Hz VRR threshold. It also supports 100 percent of the sRGB colour gamut.

The second display is a 16-inch model, but with a lower 1920 x 1200 resolution. The lower resolution is because this panel comes with a 540 Hz refresh rate, as high as AUO's E-TN gaming monitor panel. However, we should note that Chinese BOE announced a 600 Hz gaming notebook display last year, so this is far from the fastest gaming notebook display out there. It's also not the brightest display out there at 300 cd/m², but it supports 100 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, most likely thanks to being an LTPS based panel rather than TN or similar.

As expected, based on yesterday's press release from AUO, its new 540 Hz gaming panel is based on E-TN technology. The E simply stands for Esports and AUO has never really mentioned what the difference is between its E-TN and its regular TN panels. In this case, we already know who AUO is working with, as the monitor on display at Touch Taiwan was the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP, which was announced at CES earlier this year.

As ASUS has as yet to release the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP, we do at least have some very minor, additional specs of the display panel now. As expected, this is a 1080p panel and AUO claims a sub 1 ms response time, which is hardly unexpected considering the refresh rate. It also has a brightness of 400 cd/m², which is about 50-100 cd/m² better than the best TN panels on the market and it's said to deliver up to 99 percent of the sRGB colour gamut. No other details were provided, so we're just going to have to wait for ASUS to launch the PG248QP before we get the full specs.

Tomorrow, the Touch Taiwan trade show kicks off in Taipei and AUO will be showing off a range of new products at the show, which TPU will be attending, so we'll have some hands/eyes on coverage this week. As far as gaming monitors are concerned, the big announcement from AUO is a 49-inch ultrawide, curved 5K display panel that supports refresh rates of up to 360 Hz. The company didn't reveal the actual resolution in its press release, but we'll find out at the trade show what 5K resolution means in this case, as it's most likely 5120 x 1440, since this is what most 32:9 5K displays offer today.

AUO will also be showing off a 24-inch, 540 Hz, 1080p display panel that the company claims will "eliminate screen tearing, stuttering, and ghosting issues. There's no mention of the display panel used, but it's most likely a TN panel. Somewhat less gaming related, AUO will also have a 17.3-inch, transparent Micro LED notebook panel on display, which the company says will enhance the display quality under glare, something they'll hopefully be demoing at the trade show.

It may be small, but it's fast! The new ROG Swift Pro PG248QP is a 24.1-inch planar gaming monitor with a measly Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, but an at an incredible 540 Hz refresh rate, making it the world's fastest E-Sports display. This display is so quick, and ASUS set up a 144 Hz display next to it for comparison, and one could tell the difference. The monitor also features NVIDIA G-SYNC, and NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer, along with a USB 3.2 hub, so you can plug your Reflex-compatible gaming mouse to the monitor, and the monitor itself to an upstream USB 3.2 source, besides the DisplayPort connection. Another interesting aspect about this monitor is that ASUS has integrated a high-end USB audio DAC sourced from ESS, so you can plug your analog headset to the display and get audio quality on par with a high-end onboard audio solution, or even a mid-range discrete sound card.

Elsewhere across the ASUS ROG booth, we caught the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQDM-OLED, the company's fastest gaming monitors to use an OLED panel. This 27-inch monitor offers WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, with 0.03 ms response time, and 240 Hz refresh rate, besides 1,000 nits peak brightness, and 99% DCI-P3 coverage. The panel features an anti-glare micro-coating. OLED displays tend to produce more heat than backlit LCD displays, and so this monitor packs a series of thermal innovations to prolong the lifespan of the OLED panel.
